So moral of the story: if you want Hyce to deliver things safely, add a companion handcart
you mean the safety cart
Today we learn that ES&DT Hyce is more careful to protect his infinitely respawnable hand cart than any passenger he’s ever carried.
To Mark "Hyce" Huber, CDO of the ES&DT,
I, Allison Lanci would like to personally congratulate you on another full day of safe operations, totaling two days without any reportable incidents. You really seem to have turned over a new leaf. I hope these two days are the beginnings of a new era of safe and efficient operations on the ES&DT.
All the best,
Allison Lanci, Head Inspector at the Valley Office of Incident Assessment
To Hyce,
ES&D CDO
Fees and fines at the end of your shift was 23,843.63 dollars. We appreciated it if you pay your fees in full.
Thank you for paying off your fees and fines.

Awesome episode
I feel that handcar deserves a new set of wheels and brakes after its long journey.
"This Weighted Companion Handcar will accompany you throughout the episode. Please take care of it."-Derail Valley
I loved this episode so much. The companion handcart made you drive safe and careful, which made a nice change of pace from your usual chaos. I think I appreciate the gentle train handling more precisely because we don't see it very often on the channel.
Alternate Title: Hyce starts shipping a mastodon & a handcar because of a portal reference.
petition to have companion hand car in all future episodes
Signed
I’m tempted to try modeling the handcar into a Delorean 😂
The Handcar is the Train's early warning system to slam on the air.
"this is the silliest episode of DL Valley in recent memory".. As you were saying that, I was thinking that this is possibly one of the sanest episodes :P
You're bringing the MOW crew along to suppress fires. I mean at Cass Scenic RR has two speeders chasing the train to switch on the switchbacks and to suppress the fires that enviably start along the right of way. Hazards of making an old logging railroad a scenic train ride where they have to pipe the sunlight in because the canopy is so dense.
Right when you said "Pink Floyd", I was thinking of my favorite lyrics from "Wish You were Here" - "We're just two lost souls, swimming in a fishbowl, year after year."
"Companion Handcart" i want that on a shirt with the handcar on it lol
maybe a merch idea?
Handcar is the best video game companion since Companion Cube change my view
I honestly want to hear a full version of your silly handcar and locomotive friends song. That'd be such a funny parody song.
I love how we went from smacking the handcar out the harbour to "hehe lets see when we can send it flying like a projectile" to SPEEEED to best horror game ever to "the masterdon and his little MOW handcar friend!" And actively trying to keep the big boy together with the itty bitty handcar and the fact he actually pulled it off at the end of it! A story of a lifetime
You probably already knew this, but did you know: Pink Floyd’s used the revenue from Dark Side Of The Moon to fund Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I have heard that before, it's hilarious..
That's my favorite movie.
And if you want another interesting fact: my dad, who’s a Pink Floyd fan, has two original copies of Dark Side Of The Moon from back in the day. I believe one of them is unopened.
Cool
I can just imagine Hyce tying a rope from brake handle on the handcar to the cab of the steam engine, it would be like a leash.
29:28 , maybe that should be a mini horror game. Using a handcar to run away from a demon steam engine that’s trying to eat you
36:35 ahhhh surprise poem
You don’t need a lot of gross clickbait to get people in the door if you’re genuine and engaging. Being your non-internet self is enough. Thanks for putting in the hard work as always!
And congrats again to kAN! A long time coming, and a real meeting of all time
for your weird British train fact today, I'd like to present you the ES&D (LNER) way to run trains much faster than really should be possible. So lets say that you use a block semaphore signal system: train cannot pass signal box A, unless it gets the go ahead from signal box B, which can only clear its signals when signal box C is sure that its train is gone. Now, to increase the maximum allowable average train speed to increase from 80, to about 115 without overloading the system, you just treat signal box A's distant Signal (the one that tells you to slow down and prepare to stop) as if it were B's, and so on. So now imagine your highballing at the head of the Coronation, or the Silver Jubilee, or the West Riding Limited. For these high speed express services, operated by the well able A4 pacifics, your instructions are as follows, "go fast, *dont be late*, drive like hell if you need," so you do as told, have the throttle somewhat near the ceiling, the bar well notched up, the fireman's works half the time, and the engines giving a medium effort of 2000 hp at 109 mph. You're ride is surprisingly smooth, not much bumping or hunting, but you can feel the speed, and making decent time, *but oh no!*, theres a signal set to danger. you know that the line is supposed to be clear for a long distance ahead, but you do as your told and *just apply full service train brake*, having dumped it and seeing your glowing red brakes, you quickly slow down to ~30, when everything goes green, and you now are free to slam the throttle on the ceiling again. And there you have it, double blocking, the way to run 120 in a 80 without any problems, dont worry about the safety hazards, they dont exist if you pretend they dont. Very ES&D ain't it?
I heard you got back from Canada and thought "I hope you at least met up with Khan while you were there" glad to hear you did
Love the sound flanging or allienesing on the companion hand car. Cool effect. Keep up the good work 😎😥🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️🚂🦜🎸🪕🚫🧻🧻🧻🧻💩💩💩🌹🌹❓❓🍊

I stumbled on to your channel about 2 years ago, when you did the video of firing up 491. Have been a subscriber since. Steam choo-choos have always been an obsession for me, I dig your content and you never fail to make me laugh. Watching your gaming videos makes for a great way to just chill and learn more about the railroads or listen to your stories. I am hoping to finally have my own steam locomotive stories soon myself, since UP Big Boy 4014 is supposed to be coming through Arkansas on its way to Texas, and through eastern Oklahoma on the return trip home, I am hoping to catch both legs of the trip. I can honestly say, in my over 40 years of life now, never had the chance to see a locomotive under live steam. Seeing one of the Big Boys in a museum was a bucket list item. Union Pacific has helped condense several items into one: See 4014 under steam in person.
Seeing it in person under power is amazing. See it as much as you can. It’s such a unique experience. Even my wife that doesn’t care for trains was amazed by it.
So excited for you dude, seeing steam in person is unlike anything else.
Now the meeting of you and Lawrie from LMM is going to be more epic
Seeing how you operate your oil contract, (from older videos I think) I'll be sure to give you the ethanol contract! Lol, and Don't forget you Portable Companion Handcar!
Love the Portal references. I always appreciate that you are a man of culture, Hyce.
lol, that was a quite an adventure with your cute lil doot friend! It was hanging on for dear life there a couple times, but that was indeed some gentle train handling to make it all that far with it!
Best friends forever!
It would be hilarious if the handcar had a knuckle coupler; allegedly to be pulled/pushed along, but really as a test of strength.
The handcar run has given me my giggles for the evening. My hat's off to you sir.
Railroader definitely needs that qol, auto-lineup with the turntable like DV has...
30:26 You might have lifted one side of the handcar on that switch lol
40:23 music to my ears
I started a new save (I unlocked and bought everything in the first one), and I've been running some fun jobs :) Today I took 7 jobs from the goods factory, four of which were for the steel mill and three were for the harbor, and did them all at once. I can only use DE2s in this save so far, but I have the MU license, so I used 5 DE2s, plus a sixth one to do switching/shunting at the steel mill while the rest of the train kept going. All of the steel mill jobs were easily on time, but I was late to the harbor ones because I didn't leave the engines going and I forgot that there's a small grade out of the steel mill towards the harbor. It was fun though, and nothing was damaged despite some crazy switching strategies (normally I'm very careful and switch safely, but not this time :)). Although one of the steel mill jobs wasn't actually accepted because I had it completely hooked into the rest of the train and buried behind two other jobs before I noticed that it required length 2...
You talking about being particular on trains in games and I had one of those moments in the most recent Final Fantasy 14 expansion. Had to explain to my raid group why the flanges on the outside of the wheels was bad 😂
The hand cart a great move talk about a shove that was a real beanzz move
Love Companion Handcar
the thumonail reminds me of the Rio Grande safety film
to think this was uploaded on international friendship day! :D (july 30th)
Ah, yes, intertextuality: guy who uses Citation Needed format draws from the vocabulary of the other Citation Needed ("the pumpy thing")
Addendum from after you regretted the phrasing: Nah, commit to the bit! it was innocuous enough
Yes Hyce do a chef kiss with the hand cart
11:20 Yeah, the Discord is saying that right now when you input the "!whenupdate" command. I think it'll have loco ownership and customization, if I haven't misread the roadmap.
This episode has serious "very late at night/early in the morning" vibes and it shows. Yes, I know you said you recorded in early in the morning...
Y'know, shoving a handcar (or other cart) in front of the train as a "sacrificial derail detection/prevention" device does sound like a very ES&D thing to do. So does a crew becoming very attached to the sacrificial handcar in question. Another story for the lore?
On the next episode: Hyce takes along a companion galloping goose
I Love this. Companion car for the win 🏆
Me being here in the comments like: but Hyce, I told you exactly what's wrong with the slosh and everything!
Tiny MoW handcart, a steam engine's best friend (or emotional support handcar) C:
The handcar is the choo choo’s emotional support handcar😂
I'm part of the best demographic to have watching your channel... the ones who autoplay long form videos while they're trying to sleep 👍
This is what happens when you recklessly abandon work handcars all around the yard…😂
ES&D General Order 001: All trains shall now include a companion handcar
What’s your favorite standard gauge locomotive?
I finally learned how to use a hand car and ended up, derailing it every single time
kANgradulations to kAN! Glad you had a good time in Canada. What, that's two weddings you've been to this year?
2 down, 2 to go. Lol. Busy year for weddings! I haven't had one to go to in a few years and now a bunch.
@@Hyce777 Wow. Four weddings in a year!
@@andrewkruszka1674 you know what comes next.
Friendship!
now if only there was a hook on the handcar to make sure it stays attached to the train
You should look at the german V100 locomotive at some point 👍
Random question, has anyone in the ES&D community ever watched the Church of Betsy series by Kist-This? It’s hilarious and well worth the watch, even if it’s filmed in RO
Hyce: oh I don't mind if trains aren't realistic enough
Also Hyce: Railroads Online is completely unrealistic and I'm not going to play it again
Depends on what your going for. If you advertise realism, and you're not realistic *or* fun... what's the point?
Zeepkist just said "hey look trains in our fun silly soapbox derby game, come play"... no expectations and I bet it's more fun
Hyce made his own version of Choo Choo Charlie
You don’t need a headlight you have a giant ploom of cinders
Hand truck said you need more lead truck
How unsafe is it to stand between the train and the cars when coupling IRL? 😅
literally me 7:45.
also this bit is soo cool 29:10.
7:13 its not about the profit, its about the tax write off!!!! lmfao
aw man the big german engine video will be when im on vacation😥
To Hyce,
ES&D CDO,
We received a report that one of Mr. Doe's agents was trying to hack into your files and take your rendering of Montezuma. After some reverse engineering and a little clever sleuthing, we were able to launch an airstrike on the agent's house. The one file the agent was able to retrieve was a rather not-safe-for-work piece of art that our resident hacker planted to bait him. Your Zooma is safe and sound.
Sincerely,
94 Chevy Z71,
Owner, Founder, and CEO of the 94 Chevy Z71 Asset Protection Agency
P.S. The NSFW file is not in your hard drive, so do not worry about that. Doe's agent couldn't even find your IP address. (lol)
why is nightshift servicing the train?
apparently velocipede is in the dictionary as an alternate word for the handcar
Velocipedes are a different thing, very similar, but different.
@@Hyce777i did say apparently cos i heard it from some non train guy a few years ago
12:10 Running what, exactly :P
(we know now).
So I forsee the last episode will be you getting the McGuffin licence. Because then the plot is over.
Hyce what train game was you talking about during this video? You talked over the name. Thank you
Still waiting for the Derail Valley multiplayer video with Kan. 😕
When there’s actual multi in derail valley. Absolutely
There’s a multiplayer mod. Hyce has talked about it multiple times.
It's a bit involved to set up and it's pretty buggy from what I've heard, but yeah, we need to give it a go.
I know this is off topic, but I’ve noticed in videos of the 4014 Big Boy, when the whistle is blown, I don’t see any steam coming out of the whistle, I was wondering if you knew why.
It's superheated steam, so it's very hot and dry steam, couple that to it being pretty warm outside, and the steam isn't visible. This is true of not superheated whistles as well, it just needs to be *very* hot out for that to be the case.
@@Hyce777 Thank you!
the suspense of possible derailment is ruined by the fact that kenosha isnt playing
Too bad there's not a "Companion Hand Car" counter. That count would be very high 😂.
personally I don't consider it click bait if the title and thumbnail truly reflect the video, the only titles/thumbnails I dislike are those that lie about the video or make it seem more than it is or something like that
can you take a look at german locomotives
pls
Hey hyce can you give me some advice on derail valley I just got the game and need some advice on how you recommend playing it
Don't play it like me. Lol!
@@Hyce777 okay got it thank you
So don’t go into debt by blowing up the oil wells
Hyce do you have any interest in playing run8 on the channel? Why or why not?
Distances in Run8 are prototypically long, so most of the session would be a digital scenery simulator.
Its 18:23 for me
hyce where is kAN and RO?
He doesn't have any interest in railroads online anymore as far as I know, forgot why. Not sure about kan
@@kadenjenner9012 he’s probably focused on century of steam or railroader
Never even though you could maintain stuff in this game cause you never did lol
It's "irrespective" or "regardless". "Irregardless" is not a word in the English language. If it were a word, it would be a double negative: "not without regard".
What can I say, I'm an engineer, not an english person. :P Cheers!
@@Hyce777 It's meant for future reference, not as criticism. Words are cool.
Hi hyce I got banned by Carl bot because of my pfp on Discount because I forgot if I changed my pfp on discord in my personal group chat it goes through discord. Opps

First
So apparently according to the Abilene and Smoky valley railroad in Abilene Kansas some professionals from the Durango and Silverton narrow gauge railroad are traveling to Abilene Kansas to help with the logistics planning and restoration as well as some of the finance work for atsf 3415 which until it went for it's 15 year rebuild was the only operational steam locomotive in the state of Kansas. Contact me for any more obscure and less kown railway preservation news. I thought I would say that because I have something to do with narrow gauge helping out standard guage.
When is 3415 was restored to operation in 2005 my mom told me that I went and saw it. I don't remember tho because I was only about 2 years old
Second
Serious Polar Express Vibes in this episode lol.
Also, Hyce, can we bully Accurail into making a Shell of the infamous poop train with ES&D pain scheming?
