    This is by far the best video on the differences between these two racks. Great review.

    Good basic info. I’ve had the Kuat NV for about 12 yrs, no regrets but the tiered design of the 1 Up is the main reason I’m getting the Equip’d. Thanks for the video!

    Solid review of both racks! I have the original "super duty single 2" rack and love it. It carried my MTB during a 3-month, 10,000 mile Western USA + BC roadtrip (including rough dirt roads) without issue.
    Instead of using the hitch pin lock from 1UpUSA I went with a heavy duty Kryptonite New York U-lock to lock the rack to my 2" hitch and act as security catch. I had read about some cases in Colorado where 1UpUSA racks were stolen off cars at a trailhead, so I went the cautious route. Probably overkill on my part.
    One thing I've noticed after 2.5 yrs of use is the glider bar teeth are starting to wear down (although the bike still feels very secure in the rack). The glider bars can be replaced for $9 each, which is another advantage for 1UpUSA. I really like the ratchet system on the Equip-D, but if was buying a rack now, I'd still go with the original model and save $100.
    Have you seen any wear on your rack or replaced any parts yet?

    Thanks for the great comparison. Based on your review, I decided to go with the original Quick Rack. I don't have an add-on so tilting it down is not hard at all. Also, I don't have wide tires and I like that the original doesn't stick out as much as the Equip D. Plus the Quick rack is lighter.

      I apprecieate this comment! I was curious who difficult it is to tilt down the original when using the single with a bike on it. Does it take 2 hands to pull the handle when loaded?

    Tommy, nice review of the rack man. But really, since many of us are not working and staying in during this pandemic, it was actually just nice to see a video of a "friend" (yourself) that brings a cool sense of genuine brotherhood while we're all supposed to stay home. In other words, it was a comforting video to watch for a working bartender/musician. mountain biker(me) that's not working at the moment because of what's going on. Seriously, I cant wait to ride again, day or night. I have my night lights ready! I definitely want to check out your restaurant, the menu looks fantastic!

    Great reviews on the 1up racks. I have the original in black and luckily for me the rack is much easier to lower on my lifted Jeep Wrangler, but I totally understand why the Equip D is better for your vehicle. I highly recommend 1up USA racks because they look so sleek and are easy to use once you get familiar with them. I dig on your channel bro!

    Wish they offered the Equip-D in silver, would have bought 6 months ago. Instead, I've been in a holding pattern of indecision between the Super Duty in silver or the Eqiup-D in black. I know their black racks tend to fade BADLY over time so I'd rather avoid that. But I do like the new features of the Equip-D. Just alot of money to spends for a single + 2 add-ons. I want it to last for decades and not fade.....

    • @TommyHuynh
      @TommyHuynh  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah I know what you mean. I the good thing about the black is it fades evenly, sometimes it looks copper or brown which actually doesn't look that bad. I really love the equip D ratchets

    I ended up getting the Equip'd based on some of the new features and ease of tilting especially in a 4-bike configuration. Unfortunately I cannot recommend the Equip'd as a 4 bike rack based on lack of durability of the pull rod assembly. I've been enjoying this rack for months as a 2 bike setup and finally installed the 3rd and 4th add-ons for a family road trip. Carrying 2 adult and 2 kid bikes (all non-e-bikes, all under 30lbs ea) and under normal on-road driving the weight of these bikes caused a bend and subsequent crack (remember, it's aluminum so it will only bend so much before cracking) in the piece that keeps the rack in place following a tilting operation. At the very most this may have happened when going over a speedbump at a reasonable speed--something I think we all consider "normal use." When I reached out to 1up about it I was told someone must have backed into my rack because it would have required 2,000 lbs of force to cause this. I can tell you that is 100% not the case and furthermore the metal is bent in a way that would only happen with downward force. DO NOT buy the Equip'd as a 4-bike setup unless you have 15lb road bikes and only drive on pristine roads.

    While I like how easy the rack folds for storage with the blue levers, going to the bolt mechanism was a better move by 1up. A lot more secure and just takes a few extra seconds to unscrew for storage.

    Your previous videos were actually the main reason I went with my Quick Rack and Add-On for my Focus ST. I've had no issues with mine and I absolutely love it. I use a Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 1016 when I'm stopped somewhere on the road, but I'd like to eventually get a strap to secure the rack to my hitch like you have. Just a tight squeeze on the ST with the center-mount exhaust.

    Man… this has to be the most solid review of this rack I’ve ever come across. Amazing job!
    By the way, do you happen to know if there is any downside to getting the 1.25” over the 2” rack? Seems that given the adapter, you’d be able to move the rack vehicle to vehicle much easier with the smaller setup. Just curious if the rack is “less solid” going with the smaller 1.25” setup?
    Lastly, do you feel the new Equip D wouldn’t be able to handle heavier bikes (like e-bikes) or more off road experiences. Online I think seems to steer toward the heavy duty racks for that, but wasn’t sure how true that is.

    • @TommyHuynh
      @TommyHuynh  2 роки тому +1

      The downside of the 1.25" rack is it's weaker. Can only have 1 additional "add on rack" so 3 bikes max. The 2" you can add 4 bikes. I would suggest Heavy Duty rack for E bikes. I do feel the rack wobbles way more with my ebike

    Thanks for the awesome comparison. One other thing I’ve heard is that the equip version with the narrower bars is less sturdy / bounces more with heavy load. Have you noticed that? We are planning to buy their rack as it’s the only one that can do 3 bikes on a factory 1-1/4” hitch. We a mix of road and mountain bikes, kids and adult sized. But never any super fat tire bikes. I really like the pull lever at the back, but sounds like we can add that to the quik rack. Given that it’s cheaper and easier to fold up for storage (in our tiny garage), would you we’d be better off with the older model? Or are the ratcheting arms that much better?

      @SetaBlaise the main reason is the tire rack is way too wide. They are made to be able to fit fat bikes. The original is more narrow so when it's not fully tight, the bike can balance and lean on the rack but the bike will lean too much and fall on the wide trays so you will always need 1 hand to balance while closing the arms.

      Actually the rachet system of the Equip D is much better than the Quick Rack. If you don't have a 1up and want to buy a new one I the Equip D is better but if you already have the Quick Rack I don't know if it's worth the upgrade. I don't have regrets the rachet system and ez pull makes a huge difference and I'm stoked on it.

    Looking at a 1up to replace an old softride hitch rack. Based on what I see it seems like you get a better lock for the hitch, better release (which I believe you can purchase now), can take wider tires, better finish and a smoother system for securing the bikes which the old one does not seem bad for around $100+ in extra cost. Anything I am missing?
    I will mainly use 1 bike and then add on the second when doing rides with my daughter.
