    Once you did the first shake test I didnt need to really go on watching.... 1UP is the clear winner overall, by far....

      "Just as sturdy" ...shakes it and it wobbles everywhere

    To me plastic is not polish, I live in Texas were plastic goes to die in the sun. So that finished look of plastic parts and covers quickly becomes weathered, brittle, and cracked.

    recently called Saris for replacement parts of course nothing is covered by their warranty I would go with the 1up.

    From the video, 1UP doesn't wobble at all compared to Saris. My Fat EBike weight 72lbs, looks like I have to go with 1UP's super duty with 75lbs per bike capacity and add their super duty ramp option.

    Durability wise 1Up looks like the best. My Yakima rack is starting to rust all over the place and the plastic has faded. I do use it year round in the salt and snow but if you're paying this money it better be bullet proof.

    You could always add on an additional tray to space out your fat tire bikes more.

    I’ve had a Saris Thelma 3 for four years now. Holds three bikes, lifetime warranty, made in USA and I paid $429. Great deal that still works well for me.

    I just used my new super duty 2" hitch rack. IT REALLY NEEDS A BETTER WAY TO UNLOCK AND SWIVEL. 1up wants you to spend $90 more, on top of the $665-$715, for their extremely poor implementation of a latch and positioning thereof, that allows swinging rack up and down!

    how do these racks perform if the tire goes flat while in transit? Wether a mountain bike or a road bike.

    • @MotoAtheist
      @MotoAtheist 4 роки тому +1

      Obviously that would a be problem, but one I've yet to have in all the years I've used one. I feel it's more of a bike maintenance issue instead of a rack issue. There should be no reason why a tire would ever deflate due to the rack itself. Heading out for the day would obviously mean the bike was sitting overnight and any flat should be obvious at that time of loading. So, the real concern would be end of day when loading up to head home. If, by chance, you hit something near the end of the ride and had a slow leak you don't catch while loading.... yeah, could potentially be a problem. I've rarely seen leaks that slow. If they were that slow, they would likely hold until you got home anyway. So yeah, I feel it would take a big enough leak that it would be noticed by the time you load your bike.
      There was a claim from somebody that they had both tires go flat and the bike almost fell off, but luckily they noticed and stopped. I don't really believe them, but whatever. I can't imagine why both wheels would all a sudden blow out. If it truly happened, sounds like a maintenance issue to me.

    • @Sacapuntas69
      @Sacapuntas69 4 роки тому

      @@MotoAtheist I don't have platform rack as I still use an old Yakima cradle hitch rack. But several times after a ride I loaded up and once I got home I had both tires flat from slow leaks. Had small thorns in both tires. Once it was my bike and my sons. Hard to avoid due to where I ride in wooded areas down south.

    • @MotoAtheist
      @MotoAtheist 4 роки тому

      @@Sacapuntas69 Then it seems you are well aware of the problem and would know to keep an eye on things, right? So, back to being a maintenance issue.

    • @MotoAtheist
      @MotoAtheist 4 роки тому

      @@Sacapuntas69 Also, you should consider getting foam tire inserts to solve that problem. At the very least run tubeless with sealant. But I think foam is the better solution. No way I'd want to be repairing tubes or replacing them constantly.

      The bike will not fall off the rack, if that's the concern. There may be a bit of wobble depending on the situation. I've had that happen and didn't notice until I arrived - there was no issue.
      BTW, I've had my 1Up USA rack 10+ years and used it to take 3 bikes from Ontario to Moab and back with no issues and it still looks great and functions perfectly.

    Two great racks. I have been using a Raxterrack for over 15 years now. Have a look at them if your in the market. Fewer moving parts and very lightweight.

    I went with 1up, because the Saris couldn’t accommodate my kid’s 16” bikes. I also have a 16” folding e-bike. MTR can only go down to 20” wheels.

    It’s not expensive when you consider the quality of materials and workmanship that go into the product. The 1up is like a Toyota Land Cruiser. Initially you spend a lot of money but after years of use you realize you got a great deal because you bought quality.

    i returned the 1UP USA Equip because the aluminum made it too easy to scratch, dent and bend.
    aluminum is too soft for bike rack application in my opinion. if someone want to steal your bike while your buy something, all they need is a ratchet and Crescent wrench and you bike is gone in lest then 5 minutes.

  • @drsus0

    Middle position allows fo some car’s hatches to open without having to lower the rack all the way… like on my outback. The wiggle up and down no the Saris is way touch, no? the bikes weigh it down when not moving, but wont weigh it out down enough to keep it for bouncing all over when going over bumps.

    Can you point the Equip-D downwards to load heavy bikes easier, and then point it back up once the bikes are on it?

  • @marcuslinton310
    @marcuslinton310 4 роки тому

    The fact you can easily move both bikes left and right eliminates the need to drop any seats. You can also put both bikes on the same direction and it works. That's the beauty of this type of system, freedom of movement to get things out of the way of each other easily without any modifications to the rack or bikes.

    Thanks for the awesome comparison video. Does the hitch lock (3:01 mark) come with the Equip-D or did you have to buy it separately? That goes through the rack and doesn't interfere with the ball bearing mechanism? Do you have a 2" hitch on your car?

    You have great videos. Very detailed and thorough. Much appreciated. I am caught between the Kuat and 1 up 4 bike setup. I personally like the kuat but when i saw it in person at Rack Attack in Pasadena, the unit is MASSIVE!! The 1 up, since i can't see it in person at a retailer, looks to be much smaller in size. Can you do a video comparing the size of the units?
