- Here's a rare clip of Motown artist Syreeta from 1974. Married to Stevie Wonder at this time, she enjoyed chart success with hits of her own like I'm Goin' Left. Syreeta was previously considered as replacement for Diana Ross in the Supremes, and had a lengthy singing career as Syreeta Wright before succumbing to cancer aged 58.
What a sweet, beautiful soul Syreeta is. Her voice has a certain loveliness I've not heard in any other singer before or after her. RIP Floweress of Soul ❤

She reminds me of Steffanie Mills. I fell in love with the track "Harmour Love" when I first heard it while I was in Primary School. That was about in1975 when I was around 10 years old. It was such a beautiful and catchy tune. Still is today in my opinion. I am very sorry to learned that Ms. Syreeta Wright passed away so young.

Syreeta was almost eternally relegated to being the poor man's Diana Ross. It must have been humiliating for Syreeta to do demos for Miss Ross. I don't think Miss Ross would have stood for Syreeta to become a superstar as she sounded like Miss Ross..both her speaking voice and her singing voice. It was Billy Preston who rescued Syreeta from demo hell.
I loved Syreeta. I love Stevie with all my heart. They were a huge part of my childhood and are still to this day. ♥️♥️♥️ Always

Her backup vocals on I'll Be Good to You by The Brothers Johnson always just grabbed me from the first time I heard the song. I just found out recently it was her. Almost 50 years without knowing.

but why would they let Ross re-do "I can't give back the love i feel for you" and other songs that Syreeta sang ("something's on my mind," "i wanna go back there agan")? why did Motown have their artists constantly covering the same songs within a short time frame or covering songs made famous by other artists (Stevie & Marvin both covered "Sunny" which was a big hit by the person that originally recorded it) within the same time span? That seems counterproductive.

I read that Syreeta took Martha Reeves place in the studio on a Martha and Vandellas record when Martha walked out of the session. In her autobiography, Martha writes that she was very surprised that the producers of the record went ahead with the session using Syreeta as the lead voice and the public did not know or care that it was not Martha singing but Syreeta. The record went on to be a mid level hit!

Yes, and there was talk that Syreeta subbed for Miss Ross on the last two Diana Ross and Supremes albums on a few filler songs since Miss Ross was too busy recording solo material for her upcoming solo album. @@jaylove9639

I found it online, not as much as I thought. I do wonder who wrote the lyrics for much of his material though, as he said that he was not good with lyrics...
