Many years ago I tried a clay bar dry because I had no idea what I was doing. There was a mysterious film all over my shiny black motorcycle. When I looked on Amazon I saw Chemical Guys clay bar and LUBE! It came today but to avoid my earlier disaster I watched this video. My bike looks and feels new again! Thank you!
Wish I would have known you guys had clay bars before I bought a different brand. Guess I’ll have lots of extras after I get chem guys line. New to this brand , and I haven’t ever used anything better than CHEMICAL GUYS!! Definitely the best in my opinion!

Love your videos, quick question. I know you say not to do circular motions, but if you wipe left to right and up and down isn’t that mimicking a swirl kinda?
Hello, great video, after claying the entire car, does the car need to be re-washed to remove the lubricant product so that the next product can be applied without interference from the lubricant?
I just purchased the ceramic kit with clay bar. My question is, do I clay bar right after using the CLEAN SLATE, or do I use the CLEAN SLATE, CAR WASH, then the clay bar, and finish with wax?
Hey Jeremy! After using Clean Slate it is perfectly fine to move directly to the clay bar process and once the surface has been decontaminated, apply wax to lock in shine as well as repel harsh elements.
thanks for yet again another great video! so much helpful info. i have two cars to detail, but one has less junk stuck to it. would it be bad to use a heavier clay bar on both of them? or, would it be better to also purchase a light clay bar?
Hi there! Thanks so much for your message. Using a Heavy Duty Clay Bar usually precedes machine polishing. I recommend using a Medium Duty Clay Bar, this should work well for both vehicles. www.chemicalguys.com/clay-bar-and-luber-synthetic-lubricant-kit-medium-duty/CLY_KIT_2.html
What if I always use the Hard contamination clay bar on every surface? even if it has light contamination, that would take it away right? Or are there any consequences?
Hey! Yes, it would remove the contamination, but you have more chances of causing clay marring due to the clay bar being too heavy. Thanks for watching and happy detailing!
Hi! Yes, start by washing the vehicle to remove the loose dirt and grime and then perform a clay bar treatment. The clay will remove the orange rust spots "rail dust" from the pores of the paint. - CG Nick
What about what appears to be paint splatter, would this work? I am not sure how long it’s been there but I’m looking to get it off without damaging the truck paint.

SO glad I came across this video. Have been trying to figure out what to buy, what sequence to use, etc etc. Will keep searching under The Chemical Guys... but... is there a straight forward video that demonstrates from washing to clay-ing to waxing? In one video? My task is... '08 Saab, prior waxing is just starting to come off. So I need to wash the surface which includes stripping all prior product to prepare it for I assume, clay-ing, then moving on to a wax phase to lock everything down. Do I have that somewhat right?
Hi there! Thanks so much for tuning in. That's correct, strip away old coatings with Clean Slate before using the appropriate clay bar and then lock in your hard work with coatings. ua-cam.com/video/dmbCijFFScE/v-deo.html
My car is four years old, I never used a clay bar on it. Which clay bar should I buy? OG or medium, and continue to use it on regular basis after that? Don't see much of contamination, because my car in dark color.
It’s possible, especially if your clear is on the softer side it can leave some marring. I usually like to polish after claying since it is usually time for it anyways. You can do a quick paint enhancement with something like V38 on a foam polishing pad if the paint is in overall good shape.
What if you bought a Medium or heavy clay bar for those heavy contaminated jobs but get to a vehicle that has light contamination. Is it okay to use those clay bars on that vehicle? It may be over kill, but I'd rather use up the Heavy clay bars then to let them sit around unused. Thank You!
You can use it, but the problem with an aggressive clay bar is that it leaves marring on the paint finish, this usually looks like a haze over the paint, to remove that you need to polish it out with something like V36 or V38. If the clear is on the harder side then you might get away with using the aggressive clay bar, and skipping the polishing step since there’s no marring, but you won’t know until you try it.
Can the heavy clay bar help me remove stubborn epoxy paint vapour? I made mistake on my first clay bar try without much lubrication while trying to remove the paint vapour that stuck onto my car and it ended up smudging the paint all the marks show up when under street lights. Thereafter I have tried strong car shampoo as lubricant and properly claybar until surface is silky smooth but somehow the marks still remains and it shows under certain light angles. Please help me out
Can you use the OG on a new car? Or is it better to get the regular clay bar? Also, I sprayed turtle wax ceramic wet wax before I knew about the clay bar. I got a brand new car. Can I still use the clay bar?
Trying to apply a spray on ceramic coating on my vehicle. Would I just need to wash the car, dry it up, clay it completely before applying the product (ceramic spray) or would I need to do something else before that final step ?

Hey Joey, what about clay bars or synthetic clay? After watching one of the Chemical Guy's vids about clay blocks I went out and bought one. I do not see not see if it is a light, medium, etc on the package. Is there only one level of clay block? Inquiring minds want to know... Great vid BTW...
Hey guys! Clay isn't abrasive but it can be categorized as "aggressive". That's right Vincent, the Clay Block would fall between the OG and Medium Clay Bar. - CG Nick
Hey Andrew! That is perfectly fine, the condition of the paintwork is what determines which clay bar is necessary. It can be used on any gloss colored paintwork.

Hi Matteo! The Heavy Clay Bar has the potential to mar the surface which would require machine polishing afterwards to restore gloss. Test in a small inconspicuous area first.

I want to polish my car do I need to clay bar it if it’s a brand new car just got it bout a month ago. Want to polish cause it has very light swirls and I want to put the chemical guys ceramic coat
Hi there! Yes, it is still recommended to clay a brand new vehicle before polishing. Although it is brand new it has still been exposed to fallout during transportation, sitting on the lot and being driven. Use a Light Duty Clay Bar with plenty of Clay Luber.
So they are building houses across the street from me and the morons decided to paint on a windy day now I have a very fine white paint over spray on my black car. I used a fine grade clay bar to remove it from my windows but it was quite the workout and it is not feasible to do this to the whole car. You really can't see the over-spray unless you are like a foot away from the paint, but I still need to remove it. Do you guys suggest a medium grade clay or a aggressive grade clay so that i don't kill my arm removing it? I will be doing a machine polish with a light finishing polish after claying.
Hey Matthew! Absolutely, a Medium Duty Clay Bar with plenty of Clay Luber will extract stubborn contamination. As long as it is used properly there is no need to polish afterwards.

Treat the clay bar like a bar of soap in prison, You never want to drop it lol
If you do drop it, pick it up by bending at the hips. Feel vulnerable? GOOD. So will your car.
Lmao @Eric Moore knows from experience😂
But seriously… don’t drop the clay in the garage. 😳
Or don't treat the clay bar like your father treated you as a kid.
😂😂😂
With heavily contaminated paint surfaces, it also helps to decontaminate the imbedded iron particles and tar before using the clay bar.
How do you do that ?

Hey! We recommend removing a majority of water drops before using the clay bar. It isn't necessary for the vehicle to be 100% dry.
@@ChemicalGuys Excellent, Thank You. I would rather not polish after I clay if I don't have to.
I need the OG for my car, its 2 years old, still smooth & shiny like brand new but not brand new condition 😕
Hey! Make sure to pick it up and clay your car. Thanks for watching and happy detailing!
@@ChemicalGuys I actually want the reusable brick style...I always drop mine 😅🤣
