Thank you Suzy. I hope the video helps people when they need it most. I've had this happen to me in the middle of jobs. It certainly helps to know how to fix these sprayers on the fly.
I spent hours trying to get my x5 to work. Saw a couple of your videos as I was about to give up I ran into this video and fixed it in 10 minutes. That little ball valve was definitely jammed. I'm glad you showed the machine shaking because that's exactly what mine was doing. Thanks for putting out this because I was about to give up. A+++
I hadn't use my Graco X5 for several years and I thought it was totally out of commission since I tried to prime it for hours and it wouldn't budge until I watched this video. The only different thing I did to leave all components in soapy hot water for an hour and cleaned them thoroughly and it turned on like brand new. Thank you for this video.
Thank you the most big guy. I had a similar problem. Dark , generator low on fuel and < 10% on my phone. Followed your instructions and now my sprayer will live to see another day! I truly appreciate your for taking the time to post this video.
Thank you, I looked around trying to figure out what might be causing my issue and how much work I would have to do to take it apart. Very informative and too the point. Awesome video
Thanks for the video! My X7 was not not building pressure, so I did a search based on my issue. It turns out that I had three. The Intake and Outlet valves both needed attention. I also had a worn tip. Now my Graco is functioning properly.
my x5 was not building pressure right and was sluggish to say the least, had a piece of dry rubberized paint around the spring, cleaned it and now she is working flawlessly 🙏 thank you for this video🔥💯 20 minutes and I'm back to work
Thank you sir. The second part helped me resolve the issue, crazy that one little dried up spec of paint was the cause of the problem.. thank you once again! I can continue working
WOW!!!!!!! you just saved my life im so glad i found you , my hose was jumping, the gun was spraying paint in small lines in 2 different directions and when i went to spray the gun it just stopped spraying also i actually did take the valve off and saw nothing. could it be that these parts are very sensitive to even small films of paint ?
Thank you so much. I'm glad to help if i can. Yes they can be sensitive to any debris causing the valve to not close completely. The valves themselves rarely fail so its likely just something stuck in there. One time i had a tiny piece of sand stuck to the rim of the seal that i didnt notice until i poked around in there. Good luck to you.
Thanks for the video! My X5 wouldnt prime checked the valve as you suggested and sure enough an old piece of paint was stuck in there. Removed it and it works awesome again.
My MagnumX7 was running constantly in spray mode today almost like it wasn't building enough pressure. I'm definitely going to clean those 2 valves tomorrow like you suggested. Thanks for the information!!!
Thank you. Got my sprayer working. It’s hissing at highest pressure from the valve so I don’t know why it’s clean. But I can get a good pattern at half pressure so I’m good for now. 👍🏼
Thank you sir for showing and making the video, I believe that valve for the hose is my problem, I'm going to clean it out hopefully that's the solution.
This was a problem i encountered had the machine down for a while after painting had no idea what to do saw this video and it was exactly as he said ...much tnks😂
This vid saved the day. I had already tried cleaning the first valve, but i discovered a small piece of plastic in the outlet valve. I had to pull it out and clean it a second time, then when I was about to give up, i shook the motor a bit and just like that it started priming. Thanks for sharing.
Is it possible to clean the inlet and outlet valves when the sprayer (Graco LTS15/X5) is already filled with paint? My pump runs but does not build pressure so I don't know how I would be able to flush it to clean the inlet/outlet valves. The pump primes just fine
Thanks so much - almost ready to get rid of the damn thing. One question though - once I cleaned the valves you showed us, the sprayer would keep losing prime - I would have to keep repriming it - any ideas on that?
If it is losing prime air is being introduced somewhere. I have found most of the time it is an issue with the intake tube or fitting that is loose. When you stop spraying the paint in the intake tube will naturally want to flow back down into the bucket. If it is sealed well the vaccuum wont allow it to flow back but if there is a leak air will be introduced. When you go to spray again the machine sucks that air into the pump, causing it to lose prime. Hope this helps.
That sprayer looks like it's had plenty of use. I just bought 2 x5's that look almost new. I swear I believe the pumps are worn out. Both ball valves are clean. It's won't prime. I can feel any vacuum if I turn it on with my finger over pick up valve. I've been painting for 40 years. Have two titan 880's and a graco x17 pro magnum that I use all the time. I am beginning to think this aluminum pump housing on the x5 just won't last long. Do you know a sure fire way to tell if pump on these is just worn . I even hooked hose up to it with a little pressure to prime up whole system from pickup tube to nozzle. Have water circulating through, but still no pressure.
How do you get your ball and spring out without losing them? Anyhow great video a must watch for any one having problems!!! This DIY GUY KNOWS HIS SHIT!!
Hey quick question.. do you need to adjust the brass part of the valve by tightening or loosening it? My new valve came with it only halfway screwed down. Thank you 🙏
@@DIYAllied on the prime spray valve there’s a brass portion that is threaded into the main valve body. I was wondering if that needed to be screwed in all the way.
Great video got a titan 1040 I turn it on ,motor light comes on for a sec then off won’t build any pressure pressure light just keeps blinking what you think?
I came across this video and it helped me out ,but my problem was the intake under the ball and spring there was a plastic part that had one of its prongs broken off so I took a small washer and put it in there and what do you no its working again the spring and ball was not sitting even so the washing is making it sit even now .
I cannot generate more than a minimal pressure before my hose is shaking like yours in the video. Is it possible there is another reason than the outlet valve? I checked mine nd cleaned it but maybe it is worn in a way I can't see. It is quite old. Just want to double check before I replace the part. Thanks for your video!
@@DIYAllied Yes, it primes fine but once I turn the pressure above the "roller" setting it starts to run and the hose does that dance. Never gets to pressure after that.
@@ozzyosmond1 if it's not leaking from the pump and I'm sure you would notice that it almost has to be that outlet valve ball not seating well. The times I have had that issue it was a tiny piece of sand keeping that ball from moving back and forth, holding the valve open. The only other thing it could be is a faulty pressure regulator. I have never had one fail but it's certainly possible.
@@DIYAllied I cleaned it up and it seemed fine but no luck. The spring seemed kind of weak though. Is it also possible the ball could be cracked or lose it's shape and not seal? Just debating if I should chance it and get a new one. Any good places for parts you recommend?
Question for you. I have a magnum x5 - I have never had trouble until recently. My sprayer will not produce an even fan or spray. I may go narrow, wide, sprays regularly then may clog. I normally use an LP tip (515 currently) with RAC X (blue) - I've even tried one of my other "true airless" tips on the RAC V (orange). The same thing happens. I've disassembled and cleaned the gun and changed the gun filter. Cleaned the pump. Even switched paint buckets (I'm trying to spray drywall primer for my basement remodel). It seems to spray perfectly fine when I'm running water through it. Thanks for your help. Ty B.
I've had that problem. It sprays fine, then uneven, then fine, then clogs....etc. I find this happens most often when my gun filter is dirty. Small chunks of paint eventually make it to the tip and cause problems. Even with a brand new can of paint, small dried pieces end up getting mixed in from the edges of the can where it dried a little in the can. Since you changed the filter and cleaned pretty much everything it sounds like this should not be an issue for you. Although mesh size on the gun filter is an important factor. I would try to use a finer mesh filter.
@@DIYAllied Awesome! I will try that. Have you ever heard of the pressure control knob going bad. I found that in one of the owner's manuals. I noticed that if I turn the pressure up on the knob from low to high it may be only kicks in once. Before even if you turn it a little the pump kicks in to increase pressure. You think that could be an issue?
Thanks for the video! I’ve been meaning to ask you if you n use throat seal lubricant or packing saver lubricant from Sherwin Williams in this model? Essentially is there anything we can do to give it longevity for the piston? Thanks

You can't clean it completely but I have found sand wedged between the ball and the housing keeping the ball from moving and completely closing. As long as that ball can move freely it should be working. If it still has the "hose shaking not building pressure" issue I would replace the valve.

So after turning it on and shutting it down it doesn't suck paint in until the very last couple of pumps of the piston. You dont have to take the ball out in the newer models….. just free the ball by using something to free it loose in the housing n that should do
My X5 shuts down when taken from prime to spray.
Possibly a faulty pressure regulator.

Ah ha! It happens. 👍👍
are you soaking these valves in anything to free them up or just physical picking them
@@chodge8366 I physically remove it but if you are dealing with dried oil based paint you probably want to soak them in some mineral spirits
