No, No, No! I think when a film is very good it never must be done another! Good films like good books are unique. Bonanza is unique. That's why 50 years later it has thousands of fans all over the world. This really means something! For me Bonanza always will be LG, PR, DB and ML. They are PERFECT for these characters! Nobody can replace them. And they live in our hearts! Until we die!

I am and will always be a diehard fan of the original but in my opinion this show was not bad and I really wish it would have lasted longer. Their big mistake in my opinion is they change some of the backstory and they should have known that would not fly by true fans unnoticed

Our best hope is probably in the original series doing so very well that they start to drag out the sequel movies (again) and this prequel series. That or that one of the series regulars becomes a huge star - that's what had to happen with Heath Ledger to get the ROAR series released.
Paige: Not a remake, a prequel, these events took place before the events of the original show, nothing remade or duplicated, just how the Cartwrights got started.
how hard was it to be accurate about something when you got 14 years of work to look at. though i have to say it was really cute seeing everyone as real kids. i kinda with the original series started off at least 4 years earlier.

i have to say that this show isn't that bad. but the reason why it was canceled was not that no one was watching it, the reason was that the cowboy time was over and it is over for ever i think. it will never coming back. it's more of drama/scifi/supernatural crap. we need bonanza back. it would be so great to watch a new movie or a new show
What a "nice" advice! Go purchase the dvd...Really? The DVDs with episodes 11-20 do not exist. There are only DVDs available with the first ten episodes.
Okay, they did really well with the filming/directing/setting and pretty good with casting (although ben doesn't look "Ben" enough, Adam has light eyes and different features, and somewhere along the lines, Joe hits un-puberty to match Bonanza Joe's voice? Coz holy crap, does that kid have a low voice) but I just don't care for the plot changes. Marie really should have died before this point- or they should have started with 5 year-old Joe (when his mother was supposed to have passed). I know they probably thought it would capture audience, but the ranch would have (should have) been just reaching its most prosperous days and Virginia City would be starting out, which would be interesting enough for me. Then we also would have seen more of the older boys' childhoods and had more time before Adam was set to leave for Boston. What were the writers planning on doing then? Lastly, I think the nicknames "Hoss" and "Little Joe" would have already been well assessed. Fascinating and intriguing, though.
Ponderosa was an OK show for me as it stands on it own. But seeing how Beth Sullivan revised some of the established backstory, I would not really consider this show as a full direct prequel to the original Bonanza on that basis. In the Bonanza episode Marie My Love, it was clear Ben already own the land and said he was "expanding his ranch" before he even met Marie. So I assume the big house would also had already been built in the form we see in this pilot episode before Marie moved in. What raised my eyebrows in this pilot was Ben did NOT own the Ponderosa yet. This pilot felt more like the first TV episode of Michael Landon's Little House On The Prairie where the family had just moved into town.

I think the lad who plays hoss here is good.
Little Joe was the only son born on the Ponderosa... This doesn't follow very well with the original story line of Bonanza.

I think officially his name was Eric, but at no point in time did anyone ever call him that, he was always Hoss.
A few episodes he was introduced by his real name.
