Will you be doing a review of Tetris Forever when it comes out in a few days? I'm definitely interested in seeing that. Already planning on getting it. Huge fan of Tetris since back in the day.
I have this preordered. I had Atari when I was a kid. I want to start recollecting. The new cart prices are a bit high for me for just a single 40-50 year old game. But Atari is thankfully giving great options like this. I will probably be putting a 7800+ under the tree this season.
I would've liked to see Atari ST games on there and more examples of the computer line of games. I really like the computer version of Food Fight they put on there for example and would've liked to see more content from that end of things. I'm not aware of what I may have missed out on with Atari ST so that would've been interesting to explore if they had included it. Otherwise it's a great collection of games and definitely well worth it for me because there's so many classics on there that I still play and ones I discovered later through Atari 50. Great video!
It would be cool if they did a collection of Intellivision games for modern consoles as well because I never owned one and don't know anything about those games so I'd be interested in playing them to see what I think.
Does Atari even still own the rights to the ST operating system. It could have been sold when the Falcon computer was sold to C Labs. Atari did a few ok games themselves on the ST like Star Raiders and Battlezone
@@joshh8245that would be nice… but also very niche. No offense with Intellivision fans but nowadays the console isn’t that well known compared to the 2600.
ST games haven’t been included because it would have been too hard to create an emulator for that and also because most titles were available on other Atari platforms
@@MLJ7956 Yes! Activision was my favorite. I would love pitfall. Would kaboom work on the Switch? The paddle controller games dont play well with different controls.
If Atari manages to get those rights (difficult but possible since Activision Blizzard is nothing more than a shell of their former selves) it would be an obvious addition to this game. But you know what I would like to see? A DLC about Tengen the company they made in order to sell unlicensed games on the NES. It would require them getting back the rights of a bunch of games from Warner Bros (who bought Midway who bought Atari arcade division in the 90s) but it would be fun to see. Plus it would allow games like Sam Francisco Rush, Gauntlet, Klax, Paperboy, Primal Rage and others to be added to the game!
I think its a good DLC , the only complaint I have is the 2 player , they should not have include them and put only one player game, thanks for the video John !
I agree, the main draw of this particular DLC is definitely the history, rather than the games, though seeing a prototype of Tower of Doom on the 2600 is awesome. Weird to see Space Attack missing, though. Any info about why that is? Still, seeing these discussions and some commercial clips will be a treat. Here's hoping an Intellivision collection in this style will soon follow.
Does it use a new save file if you get this new physical collection? I notice at the end when you show library the unlockable games are still locked. And what bother me is the update show you the purchasable content in the library, i just didnt pull the trigger on buying the DLC yet and my game menu kinda bug me now.
@@darthwiizius doubt it, there’s more of a market for Atari than there is for llama soft. And in my opinion Atari 50 is better and almost everyone has heard of Atari.. llama soft not so much
@@the3xit762 While Atari are a bigger market than Jeff the simple fact that Llamasoft's games are not only legendary but largely stuck on old 8 bit machines might mean there's enough of a customer base to warrant a release, especially in Europe where everyone from the home computer era played his games far far more than Atari's. Shoot, the biggest Atari game post 1983 was (and still is ever since) Jeff Minter's Tempest 2000.
This is a great collection. Digital Eclipse didn't a wonderful job. I'm hoping for an Intellivision collection soon and even an Intelivision mini. Thanks for the video, John!
I feel like its obviously a calculated cash grab choice to keep offering various limited versions of collections. Just release something definitive with everything thats updateable (for a fee with each new game even) Its been annoying to say the least and makes me not want any of these.
They are offering new games because they secured rights with acquisitions after the initial release. The first dlc was free, with the other two as paid DLC. Over 140 games now. The Atari VCS gets the updates for free. Only two versions of the physical release, last years release and this one.
@@johnhancockretro I appreciate your clarification. Its so hard not to be cynical these days, especially with so little money to do the things we love. Peace.
You can download the dlc as an alternative option. There is a free update but the last two updates cost $7.99 each. The Atari VCS will get the updates for free.
Atari aged bad. I have not seen anything new from Atari and the Atari+ does not count. You dont see Atari doing online multiplayer or making triple a games and Atari is good but everyone is playing Nintendo or PlayStation. Technology has advanced over the years and you can do so much more on modern consoles
Huh I think the opposite. The graphics have a charm of their own. Gameplay is often simple and easy to pick up and easy if you don't have a lot of free time and just want to play.

Atari does what nintendon't. brings back old retro games and so we can buy them and keep them. Well done Atari.
Atari 50 has been one of my favorite titles in a long time. Looking forward to pick up the DLCS someday.
Wow. That's amazing! Pretty Cool! I need it! LoL ! Thanks for the video!

Hey John, question. Does the DLC come on the cartridge or is there a required install?
Cant wait until mine ships!!

I love this, it reminds me of the original Namco Museum games on the PS1 which go into the history of the games.

I see that there is still no Gauntlet in the collection. I wonder if Digital Eclipse has any plans for a Gauntlet collection.
Not owned by Atari is the reason why you don’t see it.
So is all the content on the actual game card? Or is it the original release with a different sticker and you have to download the extra content?
So hyped for this, but sad that the VCS DLC version has been delayed. I might have to get the DLC for my PS4 copy if that’s a thing.
Sad to hear too
If the steelbook is available on PS5, I'll definitely be grabbing this.
I don’t think this was released for PS5.
I was hoping for Battlezone in this 2nd DLC, I know Atari no longer has the rights to the game, but I hoped
John, the evercade gets few games end november that seem liked
I cover them in my Evercade Alpha video.
Did your save file from the original release carry over to this updated version?
I did not try that.
Do you advise getting the steel book edition on atari 50 expanded
Please inform me
All depends of what you want. If you have the original release then get the DLC for it.
So you HAVE TO GET THE FIRST ONE AS IN THE ORIGINAL in order to under stand the ATARI 50 EXPANDED EDITION
please in form me

Just let me play old games without comparing it to 4k 120fps raytraced graphics.
The issue for me is Atari games have aged horribly.

Not if you grew up with them or can appreciate "minimalism".
Yeah I don't feel that way.
Is dlc free if you own the original version on Playstation..
