When the soap start to turn black that means the alloy is is almost the rite temp to start bending. You reed to keep reapplying the soap as it burns off.
So that is probably about 500F (260C). Could probably do the same thing with oxy- fuel by using a sooty flame to carbon up the part. When the carbon burns off, the part is at temperature. Obviously oxy-fuel is much hotter so use caution.

Was that the stock pot aluminum lever? I'll have to try that. Thanks for the tip!
How do you bens it like that? Looks like you were reversing., mine bent downwards..
What does the soap do, I want to try what your smoking. Good job on straighten the leaver!
What is the purpose of the soap and why do you need to apply it?
hi when the soap turns black thats about the correct temp to start bending .
Nice video man Thanks!
Looks like I'll have to take mine off the bike before I start heating then.
Won't this compromise the integrity of the lever? But I guess if you can get a few more miles out of it... why not.
I'd do that ...if i have my hands on a blow torch :/
