All the people who say that Deponia needs a funny or happy end are limited to dumb stereotype movies or games. Example: American Comedies. They always end with an "yeah everything is great" ending! Don't understand me wrong. I have no problem with those kind of endings, but one should not limit comedies (movies, games etc) to happy ends. That's why Depionia is so special and awesome! It's not only funny, it also gives you stuff to think about, for example, that everybody wanted another Deponia after Deponia 3, and now, see what we got! An even more "serious" ending (and besides that, a great game ;) ). I don't want to go in too much detail, but Poki said himself that he did not actually want a 4th Deponia, but everybody wanted another one. That's why he put the message in this Deponia (see the prophet in Doomsday) that we should get when its enough.
This Game wouldn't even exist if people did not keep on yelling for another Deponia. As other comments already said, Poki never wanted to create a 4th Deponia. Actually Deponia was meant to be a Trilogy so after the 3rd game the story’s actually over. This one is just a reaction for the great demand for a new Deponia. It's a great game but ends nearly the same way as the 3rd game - except for some timelines Rufus destroyed on his journey throughout the game. And as Poki wasn’t even thinking about a 4th Deponia to make in the first place, there will probably be no 5th game anyways. So to my mind “filler” is no appropriate name for Doomsday. Instead I would just call it a “fan service”, as it is nothing else but a favor from Poki to his fans - and a great game of course.

I thought that the prophet and the other around the fire, they were referring to a possibile continuos.... maybe a new trilogy
