  • How to make a modular roof for D&D foam buildings, that you can simply re-use rather than have to make over and over again. This roof can be for anything you need for D&D, a tavern, chapel, warehouse, manor, cottage, town hall, shops, coaching inn…you get the idea.

    You have probably the best tile system on UA-cam. It's fantastic.
    I just wish I could find thick enough XPS in the UK to make some, without having to buy 10 sheets.

    • @RPArchiveOfficial
      @RPArchiveOfficial  4 роки тому +11

      Thank you! It's good to see so many people are wanting to use it :)
      Well luckily enough I'm in the UK ;) I've bought from 2 places, and cost and quality has varied dramatically. The XPS I've had has had what I would call 'fuzzy' edges in places (easily cut off on anything you can fit through a hot wire), and the cheaper stuff has had it on more sides.
      I first bought some 2ftx4ftx1" boards from 4d (modelshop.co.uk/Shop/Raw-Materials/Styrofoam/Item/Styrofoam-dark-grey-large-sheet/ITM7958). More expensive, but came with nice smooth edges ready for crafting except for two of the very thin edges, but that was easily fixed.
      I just bought another batch, from panelsystems (www.panelsystems.co.uk/product/craftfoam-grey). A LOT cheaper (£4.25 for a 2ftx2ft 1" thick board as opposed to £7.50(!) from 4d). BUT - 4 out of 6 sides had the fuzzy covering - including the large flat edges! Luckily I'd bought 4" thick foam as an experiment for a future video (watch this space) so I can just trim it without losing too much.
      Given HOW MUCH cheaper the panelsystems stuff is, I'm tempted to buy from them, buy slightly thicker, and just trim the fuzzy edges as needed.
      Hope this helps!

      @@RPArchiveOfficial great. I mean you could really have a playing area that is all roofs and walkways and drop offs in between and you could have the night watch chasing thieves or rival Assassins guilds all sorts of roof based fun. I think they did two James bond movies where the first 35 minutes was nothing but guys running over roof tops sliding down poles there have also been many Jackie Chan movies that did this as well as old Douglas Fairbanks silent movies . roof top battles can be exciting because if you don't quite make the jump or one foot wrong you could die.

    Your videos are epic as ever!
    I am working with your system while slightly changing it to metrics.
    Having made a lot of architecture models in the past and also always aiming to achieve modularity all-over.
    I was thinking about your roof steepness.
    I understand the visual 45 degrees for the roof. But it could be less steep.
    In real building regulations you can slant a tiled roof from 15 degrees straight up to 90 degrees.
    How about instead of creating diagonal wall-elements of 3x3 inch. use the Wall height measurements. 2x3 inch.
    This way your roof can line up to an extra splitlevel story all the while keeping the possibility to add further.
    Or maybe even flat-roofs. They aren't that uncommon.
    Even still, awesome works and effective changes.

    • @CaspervDeelen
      @CaspervDeelen Рік тому

      And a cool thing would be to vertically subtract a wall thickness from the top of the roofmodules. So that you could have a roof leaning against another wall, one story higher.
      And otherwise fill the rooftop with a specific roofridge sturdying up the connection on the top.
