Flinders Ranges | Drought, dust then Flooding Rains

FLINDERS RANGES SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Years of drought then the creeks flooded. The stations we filmed in the Flinders Ranges were heading into their 5th year of drought. Our video captures the dry red landscape of the Flinders Ranges and the ferocity of the dust storms that blasted everything in their path.
Flinders Ranges station owners had destocked and were bringing in feed for the remaining livestock they had.
In Spring 2020, enough rain fell to cause flash flooding in the creeks. Witnessing the torrent of water moving all in its path, even leaving a large gumtree in the middle of a main road. The roads became temporarily impassable with large swathes of water stopping traffic coming from any direction.
Within days the creeks dried up.
Within weeks, the landscape turned green, a massive contrast to the devastation caused by the drought. And then after a few warm days the ground dried out and the dust storms returned.
The ancient landscape of Wilpena Pound and its spectacular scenery was amazing to view from the air. The natural beauty of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park from above gives a distinct perspective of how old and iconic this region really is.
