    I really like the retro look a lot of scooters have. I have a Kymco People 150 that I bought because it had the retro styling. That, and because Kymcos are pretty reliable, at least in my case.

      Both Kymco and SYM from Taiwan are very reliable because there are more than 20 million scooters in Taiwan of 23 million population. Taiwan has been a proven ground for scooters with plans and mountains.

      Couldn't agree more. Vespa's started to look crap from 80s onwards. All modern scooters look terrible to me! How hard can it be really to make a modern scooter look nice? If it's really that hard then I wish they'd just copy the classic designs.

    The Scomadi is my fav! It is the original modern classic, not this Hanway uncool copycat on no1. Scomadi has the spirit of the scooterboy scene of the 80s and 90s by their founders Paul Melici and Frank Sanderson and presenting the genuine modern classic. Face it or not, Scomadi has the ultimate creative potential to lead classic scooterism to the next level. The others are only doing business…

    I have just bought a vespa GTS, I am hoping that after two years of hell owning a Royal Alloy this will restore my faith. I can only speak of the GT model but the metal seems to be made of 98% Fe and 2% cheese. The nuts sheer off, the original exhaust rusts through completely within a year, the break pads seem to be made of a composite porridge and paper mache, they need changing every year. I only did 4500 miles and the front pads needed changing twice, the excellorator cable snapped completely in 18 months, this rusted through. I don't live in a rain forest just a moderate British climate. The speedo and indicators stop functioning properly in around the same period of time 18 month and it is very hard to obtain some of the replacement parts. The starter motor also ceased to work and the battery needed changing.On top of this very few mechanics will go near them as they clutter up their work space for a longer period than most bikes.

      I take it you are not a salesman for Royal Alloy, how is the Vespa going? I’m thinking about getting a scooter but I’m not sure which one to get,I’ve always liked the look of the GTS 300 but they are a bit on the expensive side,maybe I will try a Sym but I’m unsure about the quality of these scooters and I don’t want to get bit like you did with the Royal Alloy.

    • @johnginniver4220
      @johnginniver4220 3 роки тому +3

      @@jasonclarke7422 I would say go for the vespa mate. I have only had mine a few months but it is like comparing a Fiat to a Jaguar. I can understand the price will probably put many scooter enthusiasts from purchasing one but I personally asked several customers from the Piagio garage where I bought mine if there were any technical issues, the answer was no. Many of which had done over 10,000 miles. If you are going for the cheaper one I would recommend the Modena, it is £1000 cheaper than the Royal Alloy GT. I had 2 of these, you get what you pay for.

    Plastic panels are a bonus on a scooter. They don't rust, they are lighter, cheaper to replace if scratched/broken, they don't dent, easier to fit and easier to clean.

      I don't really get this obsession with metal body panels being so superior to plastic. As you say, plastic won't dent or rust and is far easier to repair in case of damage. And let's not forget, these new "plastic" scooters have steel tube frames underneath the body panels, they aren't relying on the plastic panels for structural strength. Does anybody really think if the scooter manufacturers of the 50s-60s had access to today's plastic materials and molding technology back then they wouldn't have used it? Piaggio and Innocenti and Heinkel, etc. had warehouses full of metal that they needed to find a use for after WW2 so they built scooters out of it, much like Grumman in the US used their stockpiles of aluminum to build boats and canoes and camper trailers and mail trucks when their aircraft production shut down after WW2. There are millions of Grumman aluminum canoes still in use and their owners love them, but that doesn't mean that aluminum is the ideal material to build canoes out of. Obviously if I were to buy an old restored vintage Vespa or Lambretta today and discovered that it had aftermarket plastic body panels I'd be very unhappy, but when I buy a new modern product I have no problem with it being made of modern materials.

I took it back on the 30th day for a refund! ! I wanted something that is going to be reliable, as my old Vespa PX 2-stroke has let me down a couple of times and ruined the day out! The Royal Alloy brand has mixed reviews, but my experience of owning one was shocking! Every time you removed the side panel, you had to be so careful not to scratch anything! So after not even running it in and 440 mile on the clock, I took it back! I have ordered a New Vespa GTS300, hope I have done the right thing?

    I'm a motorcycle mechanic and I'm currently rebuilding a engine on a 2020 Royal Alloy GP125 Liquid cooled model. It's only got 4,000 miles on the clock and the engine is leaking oil from the cylinder base gasket, and running badly. I normally work on Japanese machines, and I've found the build quality of some of these scooters really bad. Even the big brands like piaggio seem to make very badly made machines that start to go wrong with very low mileage. For instance I've got a 2022 piaggio liberty 125 with only 3,300 miles on it, and the indicator switch is already playing up, and only works intermittently. You wouldn't see a Honda scooter falling apart like this with such low mileage.

    rather get an original vespa px or lambretta gp then any of these heaps ,a sorted standard px or gp will be just as good as any of these ,plus a lot cheaper to maintain and won`t be impossible to get spares for in a few years when the manufacturers change everything or have redesign ,

    These Royal Alloys and scomadi scooters look good at first glance bit after 12 months trying to sell them on isn't fun - the market is saturated with copy scooters! Vespa all day long even 3/4 year old GTS or the sprint/ primavera models still look classy! Take one of those plastic things to a rally you're going to get laughed at

      Sadly there is to much bike/scooter snobbery about which is sad, what is the problem with someone that perhaps can not afford a Vespa but want a classic looking scooter.it is for the reasons you mention that I have always avoided bike clubs and enjoy my bikes for what they are meant for (freedom)

    • @garryquinn8748
      @garryquinn8748 3 роки тому +2

      Sorry Jason my opinion was nothing to do with money and how much you pay for your scooter basically it was about the sell on value and the reliability of the scooters mentioned for the same price or less you can purchase a GTS second hand for example and its value wont drop as much as the modem copy scooters.
