What Bert Krages doesn’t tell you is that he was principal involved in writing this legislation and getting it pass-through in the 11th hour. What also fails to mention is that he stalks boaters in the Newburgh pool tubing, wakeboarding and wake surfing. He takes photos and lobbies to state to find them for the activities. The video above has many of his videos he’s taken from the shoreline or in his kayak. Keep in mind he is a private citizen with no law enforcement training. Amazing

Kayakers should be required to register thier lil boats yearly as well. Love the old man with mansions on river complaining about having to maintain his water front property. And whining about wakes as he paddles the smallest plastic tub he can right up the middle of the river.
i dont know about this situation, but a lot of people that complain about wake boats sound like the old grumpy guy saying "those damn kids keep skateboarding on the sidewalk"
My parents have a house on a lake that is been taken over by wake surfing boats. 3 years in a row they've had to get more riprap after the summer and have had 2 dock bridges damaged by the big wakes. During the summer you can barely hangout on the dock because it gets rocked so much all day. It sounds nimby at first but for property owners its actually a problem. A lot of the defenders tow boats to the lake.
The Newberg Pool is 28.4 miles long. (Mile markers 26.6 to 55) The two previous surf zones were 1.6 miles and 1.4 miles long for a total of just over 10% of that section of the river. You can't allow those wakesurfing 10% of the pool while you have 90% for your recreation? Oregon's public waterways, including the Newberg Pool, belong to all Oregonians, not just non-powered river users. So you're targeting the "weathly Oregonians" and suggesting it's not inconvenient or costly (monetarily) for them to drive 4 hours RT vs 30 mins (for some people). What about time a person's time?Hmmm... You would rather have them drive their trucks and boat trailers 4 hours and spew exhaust fumes over an extended period of time? That's not very environmentally minded either.
You can be passionate about it and want wake boats to go away but the simple fact is you’re never gonna get wake boats or their companies to go away man.
@@bertkrages3999and this is how you can tell the law is flawed and targeted and vindictive. What’s the difference between a boat with a dry weight of 4400lbs towing someone in a tube and a boat with a dry weight of 4400lbs and empty factory ballast bags towing someone? Or an older ski boat that didn’t have factory bags but the owner added them later and is towing someone? Oh that’s right, nothing. The micro plastic from your kayak is harming the environment just as much. I hope you are just as outraged about it and working just as hard to fix that problem now.
What Bert failed to include is that the recommended water of the lower williamette river includes a toxic Superfund site and is often contaminated with raw sewage from waste water overflow. He also fails to mention that Hagg lake is impossible to wake board on if more than 3 boats are using the 1/2 of lake allowed by rule and that the Columbia also has limited areas clear of excessive wind chop large enough to represent a hazard to wakeboarders.
I feel like the legislators should take into consideration the fact that the "lobby" for wakesurfing is being done by the law breakers. If I was a rule maker, I would definitely side with the law abiding citizens over those who blatantly break the law. But that's just me.
I wakesurfed in the Newberg Pool when it was required to go through additional education, apply for a sticker, pay the fee, and stay in the surf zones. The 2022 law is inconsistent because I can throw the same wake in my boat without towing someone and I'm legal. The second someone is behind my boat, I'm doing an illegal activity. Doesn't make sense.

That's a perfectly lawful thing to do when boaters are violating posted no wake zones.

What if the same energy was directed at the homeless boats who aren’t licensed and pollute the river every day?
fun fact, I have an RI230 2022 and its dry weight is indeed 5,500 pounds :)

@trekkie1701e ya I could see that for people with houses on the water I guess
Wake boats destroy the shoreline, docks and docked boats. They belong in the ocean!

Almost all those boats are below 5500 pounds. Not all those boats have a wedge just the Malibu products.
All the wake boats depicted have combined dry weight/ballast capacity exceeding 5500 pounds.

I bought a surfboard because of this video. Where can I get a "Suck it, Karen" sticker?
I want a suck it Karen sticker!

Great job Bert. Thanks for well describing the risks and burdens to the river and its environment and the options available to the wake surfers.

Do you also make cry videos about people driving over the speed limit, or how about J walkers, or how about those pesky people that litter.
