Lol Bert. You should try wakesurfing yourself! You would make a lot more friends than you will trying to ban it. Wakesurfing is an activity that brings families together, lowers stress, and makes a lot of people happy. Live a little, stop stressing about the extra centimeter of erosion you get every 5 years.
I've been a water sports enthusiast for 70+ years and lived on a 178 acre water frontage property on the Clarence River, Seelands NSW Australia for 16 years. Around 2009 Australia was inundated with a large number of used American made wake boats, the result of the USA/GFC economic downturn and a corresponding wages boom in Australia, due to the FIFO (Fly In Fly Out) mining bonanza. These FIFO workers were know as "Cashed Up Bogans" (young, self centred / newly super rich) and they snapped up these cheap used USA wake boat bargains. Soon our once resiliant waterways were awash with these erosion generating barges, driving traditional waterskiing, fishermen, sailers, rowers, swimmers and kayaker off the river. In 2013 we had a major flood (they happen regually on the east coast of Australia) and for the first time the effects of wake boating "EROSION UNDERCUTTING" was observed. This causes riverbanks to collapse through slumping after the flood receded, due the the undercut AND unsupported weight of the waterlogged river banks. Some waterfrontage landowners in Seelands lost up to 50 x 300 metres of water frontage due to slumping, however our local shire council refused to limit wake boat activities, as they regarded wake boating a significant contributor to the local Water Ski Resort economy. In time community outrage forced the council to engage the University of NSW Hydrology Dept. to conduct a scientific study into the impact wake boats had on the flood resiliance of the Clarence River, hoping it would exonerate the wake boating community and pacify anti wake boating voices. Unfortunately for the council, the commercial and recreational wake boating industry, the scientific research concluded that wake boats were doing irapairarable damage to the Clarence River and an IMMEDIATE BAN on ALL DELIBERATE WAKE MAKING ACTIVITIES should be initiated in reaches of the river where it was subject to riverbank undercutting and "distance-off" restrictions where hard natural or man made barriers minimised wake erosion. These same NSW scientists, together with sientists from the Uni. of Tasmania have gone on to advise the Oregon State Government & Willamette River Keepers of the destruction unregulated wake surfing is having on USA waterways. Footnote 2023-2024: Deliberate wake making activities are still banned on the upper reaches of the Clarence River and NSW Maritime are attempting to widen the "No Slow Tow" ban to other NSW waterways.
Unininformed comments like this indicate you're an imature, ignorant self obsessed individual and indicative of much of that's wrong in your country. FYI: Gun ownership is not banned in my country, we host one of the oldest watersports events in the World (Moomba Masters) ... and we're allowed to drink alcohol at the age of 18 ... as for USA style prohibition, you'd be pushing shit uphill to convince us it would be a good idea.
Fuck Wake boats. For real. One of those things sunk my little fishing boat a month and a half ago and injured my friend. They didn't even stop and render help.
very informative. i stay in south africa and these types of boats are extremely rare due to their price point and the low salaries when compared to the USA. in december i took my runabout to a water sports resort and encountered a wake boat for the first time. the wake boat ruined the experience for us.. every time we crossed paths with the wake boat on the river we had to throttle down our boat to the point that it ended our wakeboard run and we needed to restart.. this happened multiple times in the same day. Bert keep on going with these videos and dont listen to those people that insult you, those people only care about one person.. themselves and their own enjoyment.
I’ve read most of these comments, I find it disturbing, yet predictable that the surf boat people defend the obvious destruction of the natural lakes by their unnatural boats with threats, name calling, entitlement, and ridicule. This is killing our lakes throughout the country. I guess their rush is more important than a flourishing lake.
They (wave / wake boats) are out of control on Lake Anna, Va. Why not let them have the lower 25% of the lake where they have adequate width and depth (remove damaging backwash)? If the stayed on the lower %25 they would have the dam and it's huge riprap on one side, with enormous lake widths on either side with plenty of room for dissipation. But the 200' rule is fantasy. I can site on my dock and observe that easily. My neighbor is staring down $100K in shoreline damage that started just 5 years ago when the newer large boats showed up. He has lived here 45 years with no issues until recently.
I have a wake boat and we surf in 60 to 100 foot of water and stay as far as possible from shore line, docks and other boaters. Not everyone with a tow boat does this but I see more of an issue with tubers like others have said. There are 20 of them to any one person wale surfing. Also some fishing boats with twin engines flying along the shore line. I kayak and paddle board as well as fish and see all sides of the argument so could you please point me to your videos about those other activities and their harm to the shoreline and bottom. I know kayakers have little to no affect but I am sure you have a video about tubers and bass boats? Just curious what is your preferred lake activity?
Hey Jim. You openness is good! I think folks have really focused on wake boats because they have grown in numbers tremendously over the past decade, and with river's like the Willamette, the narrowness of the channel is far different than a big, deep lake, where such activities can occur with much less impact. It seems to us the distance from the shoreline is the biggest issue, and that is something that many larger lakes can accommodate.
Bass Boats aren’t aloud on 50% of the man made lakes in the country because of horse power limits.. The wake boats will be in the same situation but probably worse.. just because drivers are retarded and keep swamping fisherman and the docks.. go out in the middle of the lake and stay away from these places like you said. But that’s not what is happening in my area.. There’s a large group of tournament trails joining together to get the wake boat run off the lakes.. and it will happen if attitudes don’t change with the wake boat drivers..
Sounds like we need more education and enforcement. I am in GA and if you can afford to buy or rent a boat or jet ski they will give you one with no training or questions. To rent you have to say you watched a video but they just take your word for it. I would agree to a boaters license with tests like cars and take the fees from registrations and use it for more enforcement. People would stop bad behaviors if they got a $200 ticket for surfing too close to a shore line or docks. Same for going 65 down a shore line in a bass boat. Or jumping wake on a jet ski and almost hitting a wakeboarder which happened to my son last month. Two guys on a jet ski About took out my son then both fell off the ski and were swimming in open water when I had a talk with them. Maybe it was me in my boat and them in the water that made them so apologetic but they basically said sorry they don’t know what they are doing And it was their first time on a jet ski. I politely yet firmly informed them it was not safe to follow so close to boats towing people. I find many people on the water that seem to not understand basic principles of boating. Just because you can afford a boat does not give you the skills you need to operate them without harming others or the environment. There are you tube channels just dedicated to people not knowing how to launch or load their boat. Unfortunately they do not get any better once they are away from the dock. Then there are those who know and don’t care but a ticket would at least fix that. If there were no tickets on the road people would drive a lot worse.
How about a video on kayak education? Like not taking the an hour in the middle of the boat ramp to push your little kayak into the water. Also would you ride your bike down the center of a highway? Same goes for kayak. You want the river all to your self. Or you not want to be responsible for maintaining your water front property? Maybe we need to start holding property owners accountable to maintaining water front property’s to save the future of wild life
The problem is that there are certain craft, wake boats, that are specifically built to create artificial waves on inland waters. There is a reason they are being challenged by thousands of people nation-wide. Such waves are not natural to many rivers, lakes, and bays. Unfortunately the industry has ZERO accountability for their craft, and instead resort to literally saying anything to continue the status quo. Large ARTIFICIAL waves impact the environment, other users of our waterways, and private property. We have all seen this a lot over the past few years. Incidentally, there are myriad canoes and kayaks that are not made of plastic. It is tough to have something you like to do be restricted, but some machines just don't make sense in some places. The issue is no different than restricting some machines on Forest Service Land, BLM land, National Park land, State Park land, and County Park land. We'd suggest that, instead of making lame attempts at character assassination of those seeking to place limits on some boats (and the industry's effort at this is unfortunate, and weak), the wake boat industry should take real responsibility and place clear limits on where their recreational craft should safely travel. Now that makes business sense, and passes the sniff test.
@@traviswilliams236☝️Yup. That. A boat’s waves are no different than a gun’s bullet. The “shooter” is responsible for it, wherever it may travel. As soon as they are being made liable for the damages they are obviously creating, the industry will be forced to react.
This video is hilarious and full of incomplete information. You did not include big cruisers, big v bottom power boats or any other boat that creates a huge wake. ANY WAKE IS NOT NATURAL TO ANY WATER WAY. This whiney group needs to sit down be quiet and let us recreational boaters have fun.
This video is about the false information that the wakesurfing industry is disseminating and the work done by independent researchers that demonstrates the contrary. Some of my other videos cover other issues. For example, the "Welcome to the Willamette River" video shows cruisers and other large vessels and how their wakes are considerably smaller and less energetic than those of wake boats. The Newberg Pool study mentioned in the "200 Feet" and other videos compared a v-bottom fishing boat in plowing mode and found that its wake energy was less than half that generated by a wake boat. Note that fishing boats rarely plow because planing is much more efficient. Citizens in over forty states have organized to object to the environmental degradation, property damage, and boating hazards caused by wake sports. They are not going to be quiet.
What about the fact that these lakes are mostly man made. The water is regulated by a damn to lower the water when needed. I'm sure that 200 boats in an area are going to generate just as much if not more than wake boats. On memorial day weekend I go to a lake and sit with the motor off and majority of the boats around are Baja, pontoons, or cruisers and I feel like I'm in the ocean. Erosion is going to happen regardless if we are here or not thats the real form of climate change. There's plenty of other hazards that need addressing before looking at wake boats.
@@bertkrages3999 you are correct. Wake boats create more powerful wire and underwater disturbance than any boat under 75-100’. Proven. When the boat dealers and makers charge between a range of $100k-$250k for these terrorist boats, they know a rip off suckers paying way too much on payments when they see them. All their r fat margins are at risk. That is why they come up with all the false data tweaked by thie expensive lawyers. All sides of the aisles despise what these boats and crazy people running them are doing. Property owners, rich, not so rich, fishermen, pleasure boaters, sailers, all know when the jig is up. For once, the enviromentalists are doing something constructive battling these boat disasters and ecosystem. Mass approval for these boats being banned. These have to go.
Bert had a wakeboat drive by him one time while fishing. Since then it was his villain origin story to find every piece of information to justify it being bad.
Just spotted this channel. We are in Indiana, where shorelines, property are being destroyed. Let alone safe boating on what would be calm weekend waters (no longer). The wake they create are unsafe, and destructive to ALL shoreline. They have to be banned. 200’ makes NO difference to the safety, shoreline and bottom issues directly caused by these massive boats.
@@vbealer32Yeah. That’s not how it works. You don’t get to destroy the shoreline, while making the waterway unusable for literally everybody else, and claim YOU’RE the victim.
I know in some states like Washington State, there are statutes that make the boat owner responsible for the wake they throw. There are property owners in Puget Sound that have homes located on narrow passages around islands that sued the State of Washington due to the wake problem of a commuter ferry and boats not watching their wakes. The homeowners won their lawsuit and there are buoys marking the no wake zones. We have a home on Puget Sound, but the boats never come close enough to cause problems. We get the bone headed boater every now and then that comes inside the buoy line throwing a big wake but not often. One of these boats caused severe damage to a beached boat and the owner of the offending boat was forced to pay (insurance) for damages. Most of the beach front property in Washington State is private and the property owner's property extends down to the lowest recorded tide, so any property damage is the offending boater's responsibility. The wake boarders could go elsewhere but there are spots close enough by that people could kayak in places where boats are not allowed. Would that not be a better option for kayakers and paddle boarding? Are people who have homes along the river complaining in numbers large enough to start a class action lawsuit? Seems If the authorities are not patrolling the boat ramps for violators, then what is the point of the law? When the Police in Washington are patrolling the boat ramps, they will not even let you launch if you do not have a Boaters Card (if born before 1958), up to date and proper registration stickers located on the boat and all safety equipment. I have seen them make people take their boats out of the water.
We have small lakes in the phoenix AZ area and these boats are very annoying to boat around especially when there are 4 to 5 of them in an area. Basically makes the lake unusable unless you have a 30' boat. I have a 22' 2020 bowrider and its like I'm in the pacific ocean. I know its fun for the surfer but what about everyone else?
@@Tom015462 many times. Those are FAR from Small. Clearly you’ve never been to lakes in the Midwest. The lake near my house is about 1/10th the size of canyon. And it’s one of the bigger ones in the area. You can literally go for hours at canyon if you go in to the canyons.
SS Narcissist. Wake boats = Karen boats. No respect for the waterway or the people who live there. Those waves look like ocean chop hitting the shore. Lake shores are very fragile. Find a Corp Of Engineers lake where the entire shore is riprapped.
Of the people with lake houses can just spend the 1k and have cheap rip rap installed on their water fronts. We did this as well as a hard water brake around ours.
Some people just can't stand to see other people enjoying themselves to the point that they'll actively lobby to stop it. This video is another level of petty and mean spirited. Catch a wave and lighten up man!
One wakeboat wake vs 100 other boats on any given weekend? Wakeboat pulling in a straight line at a responsible distance from the shore is nothing in comparison to the countless number if tubers zigzag and driving circles all up and down the lake
My usual "home" lake is only 130 Acres.. I have an inland 16' boat. I don't know about the shoreline / dock damage to waterfront property, but I and other boat operators and to take evasive actions to prevent taking waves over the bow from these beasts...not complaining on my own behalf I realize that sharing a small water body these things happen. I have more of an issue with the obnoxious reggae music 🎶 that blasts from seemingly every boat that someone is learning to wake surf behind..😂
Imagine throwing shade at people who are doing nothing but just trying to enjoy a day on the lake. Your mean spirited post implies a degree of malice from the people you are attacking that just doesn't exist. Nobody is trying to act like an ocean barge. They are throwing a wave and trying to surf it because it's fun. That's it. Nobody does it to ruin your day on purpose.

How about all the fishing guys leaving thousands of feet of fishing line in the lake.out of the 1000 boats we service for the winter half of them have fishing line wrapped up on the prop shafts.
Why is that wrong? I don't like theft, if you like to steal does that mean we should allow you to do it? Theft is illegal for a reason, because it's harmful to people.. These boats are damaging to the environment and wildlife, there dangerous to the people using the lake, and they prevent people from enjoying the lake. For those reasons it should be banned. Like theft or any other harmful activity is banned for a good reason, this should be banned to!
@@thetruepatriot7733 roads and vehicles are damaging to the environment and wildlife. As much as I love wildlife & the environment, we also need it to survive. Should roads & vehicles be banned too?
@@You_are_Right_ we already do!! Thsts a bad comparison... we already ban cars from being on the road that are dangerous to other people using the road (that's what inspection stickers are for). If your car is a hazzard to other people like these boats are a hazzard to kayakers, you would be refused an inspection sticker and banned from the road. In many states they require emission tests to protect the environment, cars that can't pass an emissions test are banned from the road. If you drive recklessly on the road the way some of these boats drive in the water, you will be ticketed! The public isn't allowed to drive monster trucks or tanks on public roads because that would be dangerous to other smaller vehicles. The government does protect the environment from certain vehicles and they do prevent dangerous or hazardous vehicles from being used on public roads... find another example lol
When the wake boarders will pay to have rip rap put on MY shoreline and pay for MY floating dock when the frame is cracked or broken then I won't complain. Until that happens why should I have to bear the financial burden for their "fun".
It's a fine line, isn't it? The water isn't owned by the dock owner and the dock owner knows the responsibilities of paying for a dock on that waterways and just needs to suck it up. The wakeboard issue is broader then just peoples docks. Wake boats are a general nuisance all around for everyone these boats get within orbit of. It became a problem for the same reason jet-ski's did. Over the years, they go from a few hundred to several thousand of them out on the waterways. People will always find a way to F a good thing up.
I can appreciate the info here and as someone who enjoys wake sport activities can agree that any damage caused by an irresponsible boater should have consequences. However, I find it interesting that wakesurf boats are the only boats of concern. I’ve been on the Willamette and seen 40’ cruisers who make a much larger wake than these boats. In fact, almost every lake or river I boat on has large watercraft that make humongous wakes. But nothing is said in this piece. It leads me to believe there is less concern over fixing a problem than there is attacking one form of boating. Just my 2 cents. Everyone should do better. Not just one group I don’t like.
@@SmartestDumbGuy I can appreciate that from a “it causes less erosion” standpoint. But if the concern is erosion, then it should be all or none approach. We wouldn’t say shooting heroine every day is bad, but once a month is ok. If it’s bad it’s bad.
@@SmartestDumbGuy that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Based on what you’re saying, a large week once an hour that’s 10 feet tall is a good week and it’s OK that it damages the shoreline.
I know Kal lake and not many people Wakesurf where you took that picture. This lake has solid rock shore line with super deep water where no damage is done where most surf boats do their thing. Why don’t you instead complement the association and maybe encourage further distances. Seems like you just hate wakesurfing which in my opinion is the greatest family summer sport out there done responsibly. Instead I suggest you encourage surfers to avoid shallow lakes and rivers and move out to areas more appropriate. There are lots of them.
Hey Tom - you are getting at something there. The biggest issue is the distance from shorelines - river or lake. 400ft has been recommended by a Peer Reviewed Study from the University of Minnesota. Our whole argument is that there are some places where such boats don't make sense, and smaller water bodies, or relatively narrow rivers (compared to lakes and bays) like the Willamette don't make a lot of sense in regard to other river users, damage to private property and very real impacts to the shoreline and other aspects of river ecology. Get away from shorelines, have some fun, and feel good about wake surfing on big, open waters. To us that makes a lot of sense.
then perhaps you should learn to trim your boat, I boat on a lake with 40 foot boats and the WAKE if you are very close is larger from the 40 footer but dissipates much quicker, its Not just the wake its the TYPE OF WAKE.. I love boats, and boating and have enjoyed it for 50 years, but the last decade with wake surf boats and water bags to create an ocean style wave on a lake have created FRUSTRATION!!!
Thank you for your question. The data from the various studies uniformly indicate that wakesurfing wakes contain more energy than wakeboarding wakes, which is to be expected, but the relative percentages vary quite a bit. The variability is probably due to factors such as the length, weight, and speed of the boat as well as its hull design and set-up. The data from the industry-funded study indicate that the wakes 210 feet from the boat in wakeboarding mode had about 69% percent of the energy of the wakes in wakesurfing mode when operated in shallow water and about 73% when operated in deep water. The data from the University of Minnesota study indicate that the wake 200 feet from the larger boat in wakeboarding mode had about 76% of the energy of the boat in wakesurfing mode and that the wake from the smaller boat had about 46% of the energy. The data from the Newberg Pool study indicate that the wakes 200 feet from the boats in wakeboarding mode had about 42% of the energy than when the boats were in wakesurfing mode. So to answer your question, wakeboarding produces wakes that have less energy than the wakes produced from wakesurfing, but the extent to which energy levels are lower seems to depend on how a particular boat is designed, set up, and operated.
@@bertkrages3999 My god you even lie in your responses. The WSIA study from 2020 is right in front of me now showing me that while your 69% and 73% numbers are almost correct when considering wave height 0 feet from the track of the boat, when you get out to 200 feet, the difference is minimal... like
The WSIA study you refer to was conducted in 2015, not 2020. The reply you are addressing refers to wake energy, not wake height. The WSIA study, at page 17, notes that “research on these matters indicates that a wave’s energy is a more important indicator [of effects on shorelines] as opposed to its height.” At page 19, the study further states: “While energy is a more rigorous measure of the potential of a wave to affect shorelines, it is a difficult notion to understand compared to, say, the height of a wave.” I understand that some people have trouble with understanding difficult notions, but the universal consensus among the researchers who have studied the waves generated by wake boats is that wave energy is the most relevant parameter. Also, there are several studies that report wake energies, including those conducted by major research universities. Thank you for watching my videos.
You're right. In fact, studies have shown that the total energy transferred to shore from an entire season of wake boating is equivalent to less than 1 hour of energy transfer caused by waves on a day with 10mph wind!
Wake boats are much worse than a storm. Surely you recognize the difference between concentrated enlarged power waves and stormy windy days. Storms cause many smaller scattered waves. Wake boats create enormous power driven concentrated waves. There is a noticeable difference. But those that are uncaring self centered and selfish refuse to acknowledge facts and realities they don't like.
Honestly, the shoreline argument doesn't bother me, it's the fact that clueless entitled pricks wakesurf by my dock within 100' and it's damaging everything I work hard for. They are legally required to keep 200' but the channel is 350 feet wide and they have stretches of waterways miles long that has no private docks on either side yet they choose to pass my property every day. They pass on the same side of the channel whether they are going upstream or down stream. I am really considering just taking my boat and pulling in front of them to force them to slow down and cease their surfing until they are past my dock.
Hey fellow wake boat operators..... What is the best wake gate system to generate the largest / longest wake for a 2006 Centurion Air Warrior C4? Looking to rock my local lake this summer.
@@LynnMcDonald-ho6le So you own the water way now? Yeah, I'm a bully because I work hard and buy a big boat. Regulations out the ass and no freedoms, sounds like good ole Socialism.
Totally different scenarios and wakeboats are producing much larger wakes then cruisers and they do so by going in circles and remaining in the same area non stop where cruisers just pass through on occasion.
I used to live on the water and I'll agree that the energy travels quite a distance from the boats. But its a public trust. It's there for everyone. I think the buttercups just need to suck it up and they stay on smaller lakes for their recreation and homes. They chose to live on the water and wave action has always been there. If you don't like it, move.
I live on a 130 acre inland lake. Wake boats are destroying water quality. Secchi disc reading have gone from 19' to 11' in one month. Water is so turbid the fish can't find each other to breed. Swimming by middle summer is like swimming in the secondary digesters at your local wastewater treatment plant. Wakes Kill Lakes.
Wakesurfing needs to be banned on small lakes. Erodes shoreline and most operators are not considerate enough to their fellow boaters. Wakeboarding doesn't have the same damaging waves due to no ballast needed.
This is music to my ears. I got stuffed by a wakeboat under way in a very tight channel and didn’t have my bilge replaced yet, that was scary. I am 100% behind wakesurfing. Love it. It does seem to reason that as this form of boating has grown exponentially that it could be time to re-visit no wake zones. Original strategies around NWZ I dont think contemplated the sheer volume of folks driving these boats. Maybe increase the distance to 250? As long as people try to argue for a ban- they will get nowhere. You cant win against the fastest growing segment of the boating industry. But maybe small adjustments could be made to give a little more protection to docks and personal property. I know this country refuses to even discuss middle ground these days but it sure would be nice if we could at least try.

This is far from objective. “Shame study is insulting. You need to explain what is wrong with the calculations.. You cherry picking studies and taking things out of context. There are many peer reviewed studies that examine wind drive waves and wakes which conclude boats are a trivial part of shore erosion. The St Anythoy’s Fall study also has significant errors and was funded by anti wake boat advocates. All power craft (ski boats, fiberglass deck boats with 10 people on board and even PWC) have the potential to do damage. The constrictive interference of waves from people tubing are just as large as wake boats. There is no excuse for poor behavior but it is not limited to wake boats.
If you would like to read an independent review of the scientific literature regarding the effects of wake sports, the Michigan Department of Natural Studies published its report in 2023. See tinyurl.com/5yu2tw6j. One could easily produce a video lasting 30 minutes or more pointing out the serious flaws with the industry-funded computer modeling project, but such a video would not likely be all that interesting to most people. The St. Anthony Falls study was crowd funded and the Willamette River study was funded by the Oregon Legislature.

@@jasonshafferman7311 Hi Jason. The best data comes from McFarlane in Australia. They have been looking at wakes for 30 years. It is true wake boats produce large wakes at the boat but they have comprehensive data that shows at 200-300 feet the wave energy (which is what counts in errosion) is significantly attenuated. Two good references are: Zabawa C, Ostrom C. 1980. Final report on the role of boat wakes in shore erosion in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Maryland: Tidewater Administration, Maryland Department of Natural Resources. They studies 5 sites over 2 years and wake energy from boats ~5-10% of wind, except when boats were < 200 feet from shore and then only 20% . The other relevant reference is 15 Knutson PL, Allen HH, Webb JW. 1990. Guidelines for vegetative erosion control on wave-impacted coastal dredged material sites. Technical Report D 90-13. Vicksburg (MS): Army Engineer Waterway Experiment Station, Environmental Laboratory. Which found "“wind-generated waves were 10 times more frequent than were boat-generated waves. Boat waves are probably responsible for less than 5 percent of the wave energy impacting this site”. St Anthony Falls lab in MN, is often cited by those arguing against wake boats despite the fact their wave energy calculations are 2-8 X those others calculate for the same size waves. That lab did another study about wind and state "“Shoreline Erosion is driven mainly by wind-generated wave energy” I hope this helps. I have a rebutal to all the nonsense that is out there with more detail but it is too lengthy to post as a comment. I don't know how to get it you.
@@bertkrages3999 I have read MI DNR study. They cite seriously flawed studies. For example, their first two cited references from WEC calculate wave energies that are 40 X off. They have values of 17,621 ft-lb/ft. at 100 feet. That is ridiculous. McFarlane and others show it is
It's not just "some" person doing their thing. It's thousands of people doing their thing. Just on our lake in the summer on a Saturday you'll see 3 dozen wake boats just "doing their thing". It has really screwed up the lake shore. On top of this they ALL are blaring 1000w sound systems that you can hear a mile away. Hey you love country music, that's great. But I don't want it blasted at obnoxious levels. Then they the "beach" crowd. You know the ones that come in and anchor off or on shore and crank the music to 11. It's not just one boat, we've seen 6-10 doing this and they are all blasting different music. They trash the place and go full KAREN if anything is said to them.
There's nothing wrong with going for a boat ride or towing. BUT wake boats are specifically designed to generate huge wakes. That's not cool or responsible boating. Not when it's destroying lakes and rivers along with property like other watercraft and docks. Boats designed specifically for generating a large wake should at the very least impose a 600 foot from shore 40 foot depth minimum on wake boats. This way you can do your thing somewhat responsibly.
Have you seen the shoreline damage and bottom habitat damage done when damns are opened and closed for electric generation on rivers and lakes!?!?……oh you’re cool with that because you use electricity…..
Lol Bert. You should try wakesurfing yourself! You would make a lot more friends than you will trying to ban it. Wakesurfing is an activity that brings families together, lowers stress, and makes a lot of people happy.

What a country, no guns, no water sports, maybe try prohibition next!

Some of these comments are sad. It’s so obvious that wake boats are destroying the lakes. Believe your eyes.
very informative. i stay in south africa and these types of boats are extremely rare due to their price point and the low salaries when compared to the USA. in december i took my runabout to a water sports resort and encountered a wake boat for the first time. the wake boat ruined the experience for us.. every time we crossed paths with the wake boat on the river we had to throttle down our boat to the point that it ended our wakeboard run and we needed to restart.. this happened multiple times in the same day.
Boats are inherently unnatural...
@ and many can have zero impact when used responsibly.
I’ve been rocked way harder by a rich prick in their 30’ cobalt bow rider doing the slow cruise at 12 mph than any wake boat.
Doesn't surprise me, you get enough of these boats out there it becomes chaos.
Cheap Money from the Federal Reserve got us here.
It's all about money. Shouldn't have even been able to make them.

Okay so what about 30+ foot cruisers and day boats. Those wakes are just as big if not bigger.

@@Realitygetreal Right? Stupid F clearly doesn't know how to operate his boat, huh.
But is wakeboarding the same?

These boats can't be any worse for the shoreline than a stormy day
You're right.
A stormy day doesn’t cause waves on a river like the willamette.
Honestly, the shoreline argument doesn't bother me, it's the fact that clueless entitled pricks wakesurf by my dock within 100' and it's damaging everything I work hard for.

How much are you willing to pay in fines and damages so you can make a big wave Mr Bully?
@@LynnMcDonald-ho6le So you own the water way now? Yeah, I'm a bully because I work hard and buy a big boat. Regulations out the ass and no freedoms, sounds like good ole Socialism.
What about big cruisers? This is just hate on wakeboats.
Uhhhh wakeboarding uses ballasts too smart guy.
Shores are going to erode regardless of wakeboats. The tallest mountain will be flattened over time.
@@himx300 let's flatten everything right now
This is music to my ears. I got stuffed by a wakeboat under way in a very tight channel and didn’t have my bilge replaced yet, that was scary. The people that own them are awful and they do that shit on purpose because there’s no escape when they throw the wake. I hate ALL wakeboats. It’s a shame because it’s the people, not the boat.

I am a wake boat

On one hand we have a peer reviewed scientific study of the impacts of wakeboats; with repeatable and verifiable results.
On the other hand we have some dude on youtube with 6 videos bashing wakesurfing.
If he was honesty he would come with data driven counter arguments or a competing study. Until that happens, its just some upset person without receipts.
@Nicholas Tomsyck Peer reviewed??? By who? That study has paid for and done by the wake boat industry.
This video just reminded me I need to order more lead bags to add to my 3,800 lbs of ballast!
Wake boats are incredibly fun to be behind though, even just wakeboarding is always a good time on it, our old boat never came anywhere near it, and couldn’t even surf.
I tell the kids to stay in the middle of the lake. Our ski boat did far more damage coming in to our cabin to drop. Get a job.
I been in both a kayak and a Seadoo and the wake is strong but that’s what riding is about if you can’t handle the wake then stay home or go to non motorized lakes there are plenty!
Most inconsiderate boaters in America! The waves these boats create will travel a mile across a lake. Ive seen it first hand. Waves breached the front of my pontoon boat.
If you boat on any water with other boats, irregardless of weight, speed, draft, lengths wind or angle, you have no right to expect to not experience a wave from another boat. Ever try going up a fast moving river without creating a wake? It’s impossible. I tried it and i had to apply power to go up river, thus creating a large wake. Thus “damaging” countless boats and pissing many people off. What was I supposed to do?
Apparently, NOT boat that day.
@@Drunken_Hamster so, I am allowed to go down river but not up river? Wait until the river current reverses direction? Have someone retrieve my trailer and pick me up and bring me back to my starting point? That’s just a crazy thought process for me to do that.

I can only imagine how he feels about mountain bikers or rock climbing. Sierra Club member much?
Those activities aren't even remotely the same as these massive wake boats, quit the nonsense.
This feels like a targeted accusation of Wake boats, its not the boats as much, I know many GOOD wake boat owners who operate consciously about others, but I also no A-holes that think they own the lake, and they created just as much conflict before owning a wake boat with a ski-natique..
What I am saying is it doesnt take a wake boat to be an A-hole
It's not about any one wakeboat owner, it's the fact there are simply too many these days. Everything was fine for many years, but when you go from 10 to 20 to 30 to 50 of these things out there, it just becomes a hazard.
Most lakes are man made...before it was shoreline it was once forest and hills...destroyed by a lake.
Hard to see what your point is. Cities destroyed nature too, and the sky is blue. Fun with random thoughts.
Not in Minnesota, Wisconsin and much of the states north of the Mason Dixon line. Get your facts straight or shut up.

Instant D-bag - just add Wake Boat😂
Furthermore, the field studies documenting the real-world effects of wake sports are far more compelling. The St. Anthony Falls study was crowd funded and the Willamette River study was funded by the Oregon Legislature.
@@bertkrages3999 I have a PhD in Chem Eng, am on the faculty of UW- Madison and was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering. I am highly competent in fluid mechanics. I have read all the various papers include the best work out of Australia which has been going on over 30 years. I agree the computation study has issues as does the St Anthony Falls study. The various DNR agencies in MI, etc are not experts in fluid mechanics. Wave height is inadequate to describe potential shore erosion. Wave power and total wave energy over time are required. All but one study show boat wakes contribute less than 5% of the wave energy hitting a shore following multi year studies. Even the one study from Canada that found 63% acknowledged their 5 months study was not consistent with studies conducted over years.
@@BillBanholzer-my6mx Do you mind sharing a roll-up of the relevant studies, getting ready to have this exact argument.
1980. Final report on the role of boat
wakes in shore erosion in Anne Arundel County,
Maryland. Maryland: Tidewater Administration,
Maryland Department of Natural Resources. They studies 5 sites over 2 years and wake energy from boats ~5-10% of wind, except when boats were < 200 feet from shore and then only 20%
.
That lab did another study about wind and state "“Shoreline Erosion is driven mainly by
wind-generated wave energy”
I hope this helps.

@@bertkrages3999 I have read MI DNR study. They cite seriously flawed studies. For example, their first two cited references from WEC calculate wave energies that are 40 X off. They have values of 17,621 ft-lb/ft. at 100 feet. That is ridiculous. McFarlane and others show it is
somtimes people dont have anything better to do but complain about other people just doin there thing, wish they would shut up!
