Midnight, The Stars And You - Richard Herfeld with Vince Giordano And The Nighthawks

- "Midnight, The Stars And You" is a popular song written in 1934 by Harry Woods, Campbell and Connelly. Today it is likely best remembered in the version of Ray Noble and his orchestra, with singer Al Bowlly. This version was famously featured in the infamous ballroom scene of the film "The Shining", starring Jack Nicholson.
Here, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks give it a play at the end of the night at one of their appearances at Iguana in New York City. Vocalist Richard Herfeld joined the band spontaneously to sing the vocal chorus.
While I was watching "The Shining," my 6-year-old daughter, who was just playing with toys and listening to the sound of the movie next to me, fell in love with this song. Since then, she has been asking me, ``Mom, search for the Shining's Midnight song on UA-cam!'' This is a really nice song. (I'm not an English speaker, so please excuse me if I write incorrect English)
Perfect English, wouldn’t have known otherwise
Beautiful memories with more memories in the making. Long after you're gone your daughter will think of the memories Midnight, the stars and YOU. May she have as many sweet memories at 81 as I have of Mom and Papa with Alice Fays rendition of You'll Never Know Just How Much I Miss You. The version from the film Hellow Frisco Hello. Incidentally I fell in love with this song, the singer and the Ray Noble Orchestra while visiting are old gone but not forgotten TOWER RECORDS store.
Usually covers of old music is bad but this is just beautiful
They realky captured it 🥲
Became an Al Bowlly fan with this song from the Shining.
Me too.
Ahhahaa what a coincidence, me too.
It’s beyond Al Bowlly....the composer and his band
im a bitch because i discovered al bowlly from everywhere at the end of time
I discovered him performing live at the palladium, 1934
That guy at the back with the guitar is having a blast playing this. His smile and overall positive vibe is giving me life!
That was actually one of the first things I noticed too! The second one was the girl playing the violin ... ;-)
Such a romantic and beautiful song they don't make music like this anymore.
Umm no. It’s hugely creepy
Mr Grady....you are the caretaker here..
I'm sorry to..differ..sir..
@@pc9467 but you..are the caretaker
@@blakeamazing12 "You've always been the caretaker. I should know sir...I've always been here." What a scene
@@blakeamazing12 I'm sorry blakeamazing, but Harry Moore is right. And you've always been the best god-damn bartender from Timbuktu to Portland, Maine - or Portland, Oregon, for that matter.
Not made by the caretaker
So this is what it would sound like to be in the same room as the actual 30s recordings, I love it!
Fun fact. People could see in colour back then too!
i wonder if they covered other 30s music as well, i don't really like how the old recordings sounded
That's for sure 😊
1930s music is awesome!
It's the 20s, if I recall correctly.
@@valberm This song was first recorded in 1934 so it's the 30's actually.
I was in NYC in 2018 and saw Vince Giordano live. It was nothing short of spectacular. I got to speak with Vince after the show; I just couldn't find the words to tell him how perfect, how wonderful his music was!
It Truly Is Beautiful. I Hope Everything 1930’s Makes An International Comeback. The Clothes, Elegance, Music Just Everything.🗽🍾🥂🌹🦚🎩🌻🎺🎹💎🏛🛳🚘
The sax section gave me goosebumps! There nailed everything in the song! I’ve played for about 8 years and I strive to have that sound on the sax like those fellas!
*I'm from Brazil, I'll confess, I first have known Al Bowlly from the Backrooms thing and then I got to search fo his other songs like the 'Heartaches', and then, this, this one is Amazing, I'll tell you, one of my parents didn't like this song, but I corrected him sir.*
I would love to hear this group do more Al Bowly ! What a sound!
FANTASTIC Performance, Mr Grady, you are the caretaker, I have ALWAYS been here
Been away Lloyd, but now I’m back!
Goosebumps! I've always loved this song since I've first heard it in the movie The Shining back in 1980! Thank you Stanley Kubrick for making me discover it! And thank you Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks and Mr. Herfeld for this magnificent live performance and Mr. Herfeld for sharing it!
I’m the kind of man who likes to know who’s buying their drinks Lloyd
Drink up Mr.Torrence
It's not a matter of your concern Mr. Torrance. At least not at this point.
Anything you say, Lloyd. Anything you say.

I'd get scared if I was actually there. I'd be wondering, is this the real world?
Am I dead and trapped in an endless loop of limited awareness destined to repeat forever more?
3:12 Dedicated to my beloved parents I miss you so much my angels
I was taking care of an old friend with Alzheimer's for a few months. A couple of decades earlier, she was a friend of mine who was an intelligent and seemingly, very Christian woman, but, by now, had no short-term memory. As a matter of fact, she made a goldfish seem like Rain Man. You'd think this might be hard to deal with, but I found ways to entertain her for hours by playing the same songs she loved, many times over, like "Dancing Cheek to Cheek", each time seeming like a new experience for her that might have taken her back to a more meaningful time. Unfortunately for her, she kept on thinking her house she lived in for over 50 years was MY house, and, if I didn't watch her, she'd be out the door looking for the that non-existent house. Since she had no short - term memory, I felt that, if I didn't stop her, she MIGHT have ended up in the Pacific, for she was ALWAYS heading West when she got out the door. Anyway, because she kept on thinking her house my house, taking the "mi casa, su casa" to an extreme, I couldn't help but think of that scene in the movie, "The Shining", where the Jack Nicholson character was told by the character, Grady, that he was ALWAYS the caretaker, something the Nicholson character had no memory of. Because of that, I'd think of this song played at the very end of "The Shining", and I'd play it for my old friend. She loved it, and I'd play it over and over for her. As the song played, if she wasn't saying, "I'm thinking about this house", she'd ask me about MY house, which, again, was hers, and, I'd say with a with a British accent as I impersonated the Grady character from "The Shining", "You're the caretaker of this house, Miss Potter. You've ALWAYS been the caretaker, if I may be so bold." When I asked her where she thought her "REAL" house was, she would always point West. Believe it or not, there was a graveyard just some yards WEST of her house, and, she'd point to it. Looking back on it all, I'm thinking she might have been right... all that time.
Midnight with the stars and you
Midnight and a rendez-vous
Your eyes held a message tender
Saying "I surrender all my love to you"
Midnight brought us sweet romance
I know all my whole life through
I'll be remembering you
Whatever else I do
Midnight with the stars and you
Timeless.
I always thought it was "candle rendezvous"
Absolutely perfect, from every aspect of a vintage music
Beautiful! Who decided that music shouldn't sound like this anymore? Who decided that we shouldn't dress like this anymore? I want the roaring twenties experience
Old songs appropriate to the film .just like rock, roll songs in Christine. These songs never fade out of fashion.
А вот за это спасибо! Николсон, "Сияние", и Стивен Кинг!!!
Very beautiful romantic song.
This is SUPERB!
Absolutely superb. Bravo👏
Anything you say lloyd, Anything you say.
Beautiful rendition. From a time when music and lyrics were pleasant to listen to. Modern music, with its AI generated patterns and vocoders, turning a screaming banshee into a singer - falls flat. This song is a thing of beauty. All of these musicians done a grand job - contributing to some light in the world. Thanks.
Spectacular!

Love this can't hear enough ❤
I think we all have the same heart for this song. I too fell in love with it the first time I heard it on the shining. It doesn’t matter how old it is, it has a magical rhythm about it. This is an awesome version of it. Vince has the perfect voice for this song. Thank you so much for posting.
Absolutely beautiful and true to Ray Noble’s version! The soloist would also have done Al Bowlly proud! In fact, ALL the Nighthawks were excellent…
Just lovely 🥲
Que saudades de uma época que nunca vivi......ou vivi?
Loved the authentic sound of this band in, I believe, “Bullets Over Broadway” and “ The Aviator.”
Stunning! I have played this over and over, and there's always something new to see and hear. Beautiful arrangement and vocals. Thank you.
A really good cover ...been a fan of vince and the band since they featured in boardwalk empire

I am sorry if I am wrong, but I think I heard the gentleman sing: I'll be remembering DEAR, whatever else I do... The lyrics says remembering you. I am now kind of stuck with dear and will never be able to sing it different 😂
Oh yeah and wonderfully played and sung. The visual part is also important, they look perfect. ❤
This band is now at Bond 45 NYC on Monday and Tuesday nights !
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Hi Lloyd been away but now I'm back👁️
Interesting that as with our version, you’ve replaced the rather long ‘noodling’ piano solo with instrumental solos.
You're version was special as well and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Michael. Vince was kind enough to give us a rendition in New York 10 years ago of this beautiful song. I think they copied your piano player's solo in this one a tad ;)
@@seanmccann5532 Thank you for your comment about our version, Sean. I've uploaded another performance of our version recently.
Lovely music! 🎼🎵🎶🎙️📯🎷🎹🎺🎻🥁
U guys r great
Looking at the singer, I recognize him, I saw his picture in the newspapers
amazing, gorgeous, great ..............
Absolutely Fabulous!!
Let my husband do the vocal Vince. He does a terrific Al Bowlly. The offer is there.
Can't believe it took me this long to find this cover, but hey.
And in case Richard, Vince or any of the Nighthawks finds this comment, I wanted to let all of you know that you did AMAZINGLY with this cover, you are all really talented!
