    for those that are seeing issues with the cardo update not recognizing when you have your cardo plugged in, please try the following fix which worked for me:
    1. right click on the "Cardo Update" icon on your desktop
    2. choose "Properties"
    3. Choose Compatibility
    4. Click the "Compatibility Mode" checkbox"
    5. Select "Windows 8"
    6. Click "OK"
    7. Relaunch
    This worked for me. Hopefully it works for anyone else having issues installing an update.

      @@TylerTron21 I found that the regular USB cable port (the metal part) was not long enough, so it won't deep enough in packtalk USB port. If you are unable to connect, try to set up the USB system like @TylerTron21 suggestion. After restart the PC try to press the USB cable deeper and hold until finish install the firmware. Goodluck everyone!

    I think a lot of us cannot use the app, I'm guessing the app does not see the unit as the device does not have driver installed, can you give a link to manually install the driver and no I don't want email tech support. Please post here so everyone can see the solution

      had same issue and tried several different cables, what worked for me was connecting the device first and then launching cardo update app. working then :|

    I think the issue may be the USB cables Cardo sent with the units. I was banging my head against a brick wall and as a last resort, decided to try a different cable and it motherfu*king worked. I also made sure my unit's power was on when I connected it AFTER the software had been opened. Good luck and I won't be recommending this company to other riders as their support didn't seem to offer good advice or solutions here.

      this happened to me as well they sent me a power cable not a data transfer cable ..this killed about 3 months of my warrenty ...must be by design

    If the intercom doesn't show up in the updater, try running it as administrator. Download the software, install it, connect your device to the PC, right-click the 'Cardo Update' icon on your desktop and select 'Run as administrator'. Worked for me.

    Ok so for those having problems updating on Windows. It seems the Cardo device is picky about USB cables. I ended up using a cable that I bought with my Raspberry Pi 4B. I don't really see any difference from other cables, but I guess the updater only works with some cables. Keep trying different cables. BTW, the cable that came with my device didn't work.

      If you contact Cardo with your device serial number, they say they will send you a cable.

    For anyone who’s Cardo isn’t being detected by the computer. Try using a different wire. I went through 3 different wires before I got the right one to work and have my Cardo be detected by updater.

    Took the advice and used a cheap usb connector, work right away. After a good 4 or 5 hours of install...uninstall...install...uninstall, and using the CARDO connector.

    Was still having an issue updating and read the comment from TylerTron21. Was about to pull my hair out but TT21 saved me from going bald. Cardo, put a link to customer support email on your website or add a FAQ section addressing this issue. People still have problems and with so many mini-USB cables in any one persons possession, they are bound to grab a cable that is too light duty to perform the update task. Just my two cents.

      I was getting so frustrated! I tried different USB cords, different computers, restart computers, don't restart computers. Uuugh!! Zero support from Cardo. Finally tripped over this thread. Going to the app on my pc and choosing to update as admin worked. YAY!! THANK YOU!

    If the device isn't discovered just
    1 exit the app on your laptop
    2 disable the antivirus on your laptop
    3 run the cardo update app on your laptop again
    4 it should appear now, just click update
    5 turn the antivirus back on
    remember to keep the usb connected through the process

    I also have Windows 10, I installed it but my packtalk doesn’t pop up when I plug it in, no matter what cable I try????

      What do you mean it doesn’t pop up? Does the Cardo Update utility not see the unit? Or do you mean that Windows 10 doesn’t see it as a connected USB device? The reason I ask is that it seemed to me that Cardo doesn’t connect as does a normal USB device. For example, I use an iMac, not a PC, but on the iMac most USB devices, my Garmin GPSes for instance, will show in the Mac Finder (analogous to Windows File Manager) as a connected device. Typically, Garmin Express will not connect to the GPS until it has first connected to MacOS. And when I am done updating or loading a route to the GPS, I have to manually eject it (twice as the data card in the Garmin shows as a second USB device) or the OS will complain when I unplug the cable.
      My Packtalk Bolds acted differently. When I plugged them in, the Cardo Updater app recognized them, but MacOS never did. They did not appear in Finder as a connected device. And after the update, I unplugged the units as there was nothing in Finder to eject, and I got no complaint from MacOS. It was like they don’t use standard USB protocols and only connect to the Cardo app. This seems rather primitive to me, but it seemed to work so I wasn’t too concerned. I certainly would be more comfortable if the units connected as do my Garmins, USB flash drives, etc., and actually are recognized by the OS itself, but as long as the Cardo approach works, I won’t complain.
      Did you run the Cardo Updater before or after you plugged in your Cardo communicator?

      I always start the program first and then plug in USB when the program asks for it.
      When I just put USB leads in my PC just charges, phone, cameras, sat nav. Try launching Cardo before inserting USB

      ​ vanabout Had the same problem. Just installed the software, plugged my Freecom 4+ in, nothing happened. Solution: Leave it plugged in, exit the updater and run Cardo Update as administrator. Right-click on the Desktop-Icon (not the installer) and select 'Run as administrator'. Worked for me.

    Had a few issues with Windows 7. Seems it may have been fussy over which USB cable was being used. Once I put Cardo USB cable in it started the update. Windows threw up driver update loading notices and one other which then caused the updater to say the connection had been lost. Updater offered a Retry, I did not unplug the unit at all, just hit retry. The update then ran smoothly. Hope this helps Windows users.
    I did not see the release notes page come up though!

      Hi,
      The USB cable must be a power and data cable in order to work.
      Once you here a disconnect sound it doesn't mean it's finished you will need to wait until the screen shows you its finished.

    I have Packtalk Bold ( new units this week) Updated from Firmware installed to 5.2 on the community web site. Then to get 5.3 had to install new firmware installer. This didn't work on my Desktop running Windows 10. Installed the software on my laptop (Microsoft Surface) running windows 10 and it allowed me to update to 5.3. I have tried uninstalling and installing but my desktop still refuses to see the Packtalk Bold whereas the laptop does. Bizarre!

    Was helfen kann, wenn das Gerät durch den Updater nicht erkannt wird! Programm als Administrator öffnen, danach Gerät anschließen!
    For all they have problem with the device connection! Unplug device, start updater as admin after the program start replug your device! In my case it was a solution

    Had problems updating firmware.
    Deleted kaspersky(Anti-viruss), restarted the pc, reinstalled the Cardo Update again, restarted, ran the program as administrator - only then I could update.
    Looks like Kaspersky partly deleted Cardo driver during the installation and that was my reason I couldn't update. Plus the administrator thing, pretty weird.
    Now if I could learn some kind of pronunciation for "Hey Cardom mute/unmute audio!" voice command...

    my Mac doesn't register that the Cardo unit is even plugged in even though the light turns on like it's charging so clearly it is there. and instructions on the website say I can update Over the Air, and that option isn't showing on my app in my phone when connected. My comms system is barely usable right now, and I can't troubleshoot unless its updated. Poor form Cardo.

    Quite interesting problems with the update.The solution for me was to use PC USB 2.0 port instead of USB 3.0 port. Using USB 3.0 I got bluescreen or update tool crashed. So my problem wasn't appearing the same way as other people are describing their problem with the software not finding Cardo unit. Still guess it's worth the shot if you still the problem.

    Hello, I have cardo freecom2, I have installed Cardo Update, and it seems to work. when I plug in one of the cardo unit, the update does not start. It seems that it does not recognise that the unit has been plugged. Moreover, kaspersky detects the download file as dangerous. I don't know if it affects the functioning. Thank you for help.

    I have a Packtalk Slim. As soon as I plug in the USB between the unit and my laptop, it briefly connects but then up pops a message "USB Device not recognised the last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it". I am using Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit. Chrome browser. Tried different leads and different USB ports. Is this a known bug?

      Is anyone else having this issue? I've been swapping emails with Roy at Cardo Tech. He says this is not a known issue and either I am not installing it correctly (which is not the case) or my unit is faulty (which I doubt).

      My problem is solved. My antivirus program blocked the device drivers during installation. So stop the antivirus program, reinstall Cardo Update, restart PC, start software, wait for devices to be connected to USB and wait and install firmware.

      Just to round this off, Roy the Tech at Cardo tried to help me via email. I even tried a different laptop but the "USB device not recognised..." error persisted. He eventually suggested my SLIM may be faulty. Frankly, I doubt that. So I'll just carry on using my SLIM with the old firmware and hope Cardo get round to accepting they have a problem and fixing it.

    My packtalk bold just gets stuck on the updating firmware. Gets to half ways then just stops there after a while saying firmware update failed. When I reconnect it says inconsistent firmware found and keeps on repeating same as above. Please help cardo

    Hi Support. PLEASE find a solution !!! I can't move on the second step to download and update the latest version 5.3 of firmware using by my Cardo Packtalk Bold JBL since 2months.... Cause :" Bad Gateway".. What does it mean ? I'm really dissatisfied with this issue because we bought x12 for all the family members and some friends, so now, I think we'll move onto rival brands =/

    What is the benefit of the update? my Cardo is doing the job of connecting me to my GPS or my iPhone, so what else?

    I spent 500 bucks on the cardo packtalk bold duo and I feel I wasted my money. I could not pair the two intercoms. The thing is that I am in Colombia so it seems I will never get an answer from Cardo nor my money back. Will move to Sena and will tell everybody down here not to buy this garbage.

    If your device is not showing up in the updater, try closing the updater and running it as administrator. Shoutout @Speakerator for suggesting it.

    I bought another packtalk, a black. But this one I cant register or connect to Cardo Community1 home page. Update tool recognize unit and updating works fine, but I can't find how to register anywhere. I need to fix all settings on community page cuz of how I need to connect bluetooth I cant use app. (BMW 1250GS with navigator and phone connected; Cardo - TFT, Cardo - NAV, Phone - TFT, Phone - NAV) You need to fix this and update how to video to new update tool. I think it has changed.

      There is no need to register, and when you sign up for the Cardo Connect App it is enough.
      The community was for older units and today most of out units use our app.
      You can find it on Google Play or App Store as Cardo Connect.

    OK I picked up a new Cardo Packtalk Bold and updated it to 5.7 but it’s still doesn’t respond to Hey Cardo 🤨 I have the voice control settings turned on. What am I missing ??

      Can you adjust the microphone sensitivity slider in the Cardo Connect app?

    Thanks, but one more update and always the same bugs. Difficult to understand that my Packtalk, the top of the range when I bought them, are still not really compatible with the BMW motorbike navigators. Strange that Cardo chooses to do the effort to service some of the garmin navigators but does not pushes forward to do the same for all the BMW navi owners.There must be a few BMW owners that are dissapointed with Cardo...

    I can't update my device. I see that I'm not the only one with this problem.
    New software is probably faulty.
    As I can see, Cardo can't deal with it for a long time.

    nothing was working for me until i went into windows defender in win10 and turned off firewall protections. relaunched updater is admin, reconnect unit, immediately connects and updates

    This updated sucks. Followed video and update installer to the letter and it will not recognize the Packtalk Bold when I plug in the usb. Makes the nifty little connected noise, but never shows connected in top left corner of the update window. What is the solution to this?

    how many version of the cardo updater???
    When you will be able to do Tuto for the new goldwing ?? many of your customer can't use the 2+ without intercom lost if we get information from gps.

    looks like im not the only one, i have a cardo packtalk, got a 5.3 firmware version (the latest is 5.7/10 idk) and im trying using the cardo updater with my laptop,pc and other laptop it cause the same, already using the cardo usb cable or other transfer data cable still doesnt detect my packtalk on the app. but all my computer detect my packtalk (u can check on device manager) can someone help me i’ve tried differents method to do so and still got no detect on my cardo updater :)

      Firmware 5.3:
      To all our riders who like Lasagna, Paella and Sushi, we have cleared all unnecessary spices in the Natural Voice Operation in Italian, Spanish and Japanese. You can now ride, and use your unit hands-free with your improved Natural Voice Operation supported units ( PACKTALK Bold, PACKTALK Slim, FREECOM4+). For this feature to take effect, you also need to update your Cardo Connect App.
      “Voice recognition sensitivity” is now supported through the Cardo Connect App, and allows you to tune your Natural voice operation experience.
      While connected to a DMC group you’ll now notice an even better Audio Mixing experience.
      We have caught some Bugs on our visor and had them cleaned off.

    I am very dissappointed in this device so far. I'm trying to update the firmware and it keeps going in circles. It has not been updated. Is there something wrong with your site? What am I missing. I've tried to do this starting from the registration email i received and it just keeps taking me back to the page to "install cardo updater". I have downloaded the cardo updater about 10 times but the page doesn't recognize that I've done it???

    I have followed the same steps for my packtalk bold and upgrade to 5.7 firmware and my bold stops pairing to any bluetooth unit.
    Tried factory reset pairing resets several time .. reinstall firmware several time.
    Still of no use...
    Message appears on phone
    Pairing rejected by Scala rider QGA
    Also in after community login I can't see my device as it's uses to
    Plz help

It also seems that you cant log into your webpage at the moment, it says that my mail is not registerd on your page and when i try to make a new account it says there is alreday one... logg in with FB or google dont work either

    After installed firmware 5.3 my packtalk bold can't detected by Cardo community. And voice command only works for speed dialing and OK Google.

      This tool will uninstall the CARDO COMMUNITY older drivers and will use only for firmware updates.
      You will not need to use the CARDO COMMUNITY anymore.
      To do any settings for your unit, you will need to go to the CARDO CONNECT app.
      So please check the setting and if you are still having issues with the Voice commands please contact us at Info@cardosystems.com

    You need to know the unit needs to be Connected to the base for firmware updates! I tried 3 times to get the update with no luck, connected unit to helmet plugged into the computer updated fine.

      After you do an update we always recommend on doing a factory reset to the unit. and yes, pairing to another unit is easy as pressing on one button 😉

What I'm wondering is if this software is tied to only work to the one registered unit, or that is just a gateway to verify you are an owner for the download. I haven't tried the second unit yet to see if it is blocked.

    I'm having issues too with the firmware not detecting my Packtalk. Upon downloading the new firmware it freezes with an error message "Aborted" As of now, I bought two new packtalk "bold" and I can't make any setting changes.

    Having update issues like some of the other comments. I have the Packtalk Slim and downloaded the program for my windows 10 PC. I've used multiple cables and the unit doesn't even light up or recognize when plugged in. Please help.

    I've been searching for fixes and trying recommendations in the comments but this is what worked for me
    Create an account
    Go to home page on community
    Connect Cardo to your pc via USB
    Look at left side of page for "My Connected Device"
    Follow instructions from there
    Edit: nvm it only updates it to 5.2..

    the problem is coming from an adware inside this app, the anti-virus kick it out, making impossible the update, turn off your anti virus for a while, update your cardo and Voila !!! what a waste of time to find the solution, i wonder why Cardo youtube channel can't give that simple answer
