I feel like dispersing the child instead of the Mare was really the keyturn - even if you don't draw a land for 2 turns (or a tapped land) it couldnt attack again since he had no mana left to cast it, idk
Stammered That's great however playing single elimination ones (at least LSV does) on camera seems kinda strange then. I mean, people click the video to watch it so why make it drastically shorter?
Is 5th pick act of treason actually "late"? It's only highly valued in exactly one archetype, BR sacrifice. Feels like unless there's a player drafting exactly that within those 4 picks who doesn't see a higher priority uncommon/rare available, it will still be there. I feel like you're going to see plenty of act of treason's in the 5-10 pick range each draft, and it doesn't signal much.
I also feel the Act of Treason plan doesn't get there very often. You need cheap sack outlets, which there aren't very many of at all. Act was great in masters 25 because phyrexian ghoul was a common, and you also had fallen Angel and cards like cloudshift to combo with it too.
If you also notice the pack had nothing in black red and he said decently late or something, which is not the same as late. He sounded exited because he might have and early foot in an archetype that he is currently possibly in. He could have also said, this pack has nothing exiting for me, I think I might just picka dreadmaw, you never know.
bouncing the child of night instead of the mare feels like the mistake - bouncing it would have saved you 4 dmg, as well as them not being able to cast it till next turn because of tapping M for the shock they had S and M left. It might have been worth keeping the child of night, but throughout the rest of the game it didn't threaten much, wasn't generally better than a skyscanner, and didn't gain you any life. it was a card you spent 4 extra mana and a card on for it to not do much :( Other than that I feel you played right.
40:12 I think this where it went haywire. Instead of paying the 1 for Rupture Spire and then playing Child of Night (RS+either land gives the mana you need), simply played CoN and missed another land drop. Maybe it was gone already, but this definitely the kind of thing that can give you that little extra that you might need. Regardless, love the vids, I'm learning a lot from them! Better luck next time!
I'm really surprised you didn't opt to Make your Skyscanner a 5/5 with Skilled Animator Match one game 3, I would have blocked with Child of Night instead to make this play possible. I understand hindsight is 20/20, but from what I observed, there's no advantage of trading lightning mare with skyscanner instead of child of night with the grip you had.
Not sure why there was a pre-amble before taking the Sphinx; we're on to your games LSV. Turn 6 Mentor, play Wall - draw a card is a pretty good turn...
Wow 1 toughness creatures look punished in this format, scanner, archers at common and plague mare at uncommon. Deck looked really sweet too bad we didn''t get to see 3 rounds
If you think about it, playing 18 lands in draft is equivalent to playing 27 lands in constructed, and 16 lands is equivalent to 24 lands constructed. So in limited, I always play 15-17 lands, depending on what I'm doing. also, why wouldn't you attack with the child of night at 38:59? Either he blocks and trades with his pony, or he takes 2 damage to you taking essentially 1
Assuming in case he saw more throughout the draft - you'd rather have two non-foil than two mismatching (keeps info away from your opponent if they see your hand at any stage).
Yeah, was really surprised you took the hit off of gravedigger to go to 6: it made banefire lethal. that "read" of a land in hand seemed super loose for a sacrifice deck with no sacrifice outlet on the board. Why couldn't he just have act of treason? I totally didn't see the thud line, but it was not at all unreasonable to think that last card was a spell. If you had traded child of night to go to 10, it would have been your 2/2 versus his 3/1 and dragon egg with an essence scatter up and him having no pressure on the board and almost certainly no creature in hand. I would kind of expect you to draw out on him, mentor of the meek or no. He has to either kill his own dragon egg (which he probably would have done already if he could), or he has to draw two threats before you can draw out of your flood.
I think you play around what you can afford to play around, and in this case, the risk of getting his child of night removed before it can trade and gain him two is significant. He's already in a control versus aggro matchup, in the late game, with the board almost locked down (the dragon egg is still a threat.). Also... banefire is just not that unlikely. This guy is in red for a reason. his uncommon power is very high, but it's late in game 2 and has shown zero rares of any kind. It's not at all unreasonable to think he has a red rare, and banefire is not a mythic. I would say the odds of him having a playable red rare of some description are at least 50%, and given he is playing an aggro deck with gravediggers, he probably has a reason to be aggro, because I see gravedigger as a pure control card. I would peg the odds of his deck having a banefire to be at least 5%, possibly more like 10% (in his deck, not necessarily in his hand). At this point, by trading off, you are already playing around any single bomb creature due to essence scatter, and around grave digger. Trading the child of night helps play around even more, by just stalling the board and giving the control deck time to draw more stuff. And of course, by trading both your creatures quickly, you are also weakening opposing removal, as then he has to either wait with it in hand, potentially remove a skyscanner, or remove his own dragon egg. I will freely admit, I missed the thud line, even though it was clearly there and this was absolutely a thud deck. But going to 6 there felt REAL loose.
Also potentially the Thud was already in hand. If he'd drawn it from the Fountain he wouldn't have been able to use it that turn. That means dropping the Symbiont instead of drawing off Mentor could have saved it.
I was cringing suuuper hard when you blocked with that skyscanner, just think leaving open the option of a sudden flying 5/5 was too good. That punish couldn't have been more brutal though, I get the logic of keeping the 2/1 to attack but it felt to me like it would lose all relevance after that turn anyway due to him playing bigger creatures. Anyway, nice draft! Sorry you got robbed by that thud.
Andrew Castagno: Skyscanner had to block. LSV was at 8 life with 8 power (5 Flying, 3 Menace) coming at him. There was no way for Skyscanner to survive that attack.
He's talking about the previous turn, blocking with Child of Night instead of with Skyscanner on the Mare. That way he'd be able to play Animator the following turn for a 5/5 flyer that can block the dragon. Of course his opponent would then attack with only the Ogre so that a double-block would kill the animator.
I like how you got 0 value from the children of knights. The second time you should have surely blocked the mare with it given 2 cards in hand that needed an artifact to do something. Plus, 2 life. Plus, why do you play on hard mode when recording? I feel like its a copout from more matches, which is something most people wanna see.
Single-elim is more competitive. People in single-elim queue tend to be better and play tighter than people in swiss queue. This leads to more interesting games overall, even if there are less of them.
maddenfong I can agree with that, but nobody has counter-play against mana issues, and that will decide a good portion of games. Another point is that 3 full rounds gives more light to the drafting/deck-building portion of the event. Something is better than nothing tho and whatever reason for him losing before the final match does not feel better, to me, than seeing what the deck can do given more tries. Obviously tho, if he wants to play 8-4 because 6-2-2-2 is not fun for him or its not actual practice and he doesn’t have the time for a longer video “100%”, whatever. A video is a video. Duke does do another one to redeem himself if it goes horribly wrong so props to him, but LSV has done a bunch of these where I think he could have played better and later. But I can agree with your point that that thud for six was a good play or whatever and is a better quality game than some noob missing things, which can happen.
Too many taplands is also a way to construct a greedy manabase, even if you do have a large number of sources that provide each color. Rupture spire in particular costs 2 mana to play and uses your land drop for the turn, not something I'd particularly want to run if I didn't have to.
I think the value cards are too weak in 2019. Its usually better to just get some high power and toughness dudes in play to smash through the value guys. I mean, when your sky scanner is drawing rupture spire and islands when your opponent is only amassing a more brutal board........ where is the value in that?
There are a lot of mythics in this set you shouldn't draft, crucible, omniscience, scapeshift, sarkyan and Lilly require commitment to their archetypes, arcades is meh and hard to play in limited
unsubscribing if i see another video with "anti-spoiler" content. if you scrub out in round 1, don't post the video or jump in another queue! this doesn't provide me any useful content, and i feel ripped off when i get to the "OH I GUESS HE LOST LET'S EXTEND THE VIDEO ANOTHER 15 MINUTES". it comes across like a grab for more youtube ad revenue, and i don't want to support that,
Dragon Egg facing down Skeleton Archer in the 'my name is literally my creature types'-off!

Sure, but you're paying my medical bills.
My stack was pretty sick. Not 1 but 2 demanding dragons in my pile. Sorry for the slower play, slow laptop.
Well done =)
yeah, slow laptops tend to stop on upkeep
LOL.
Amlorian Dee that is just to tilt you
Or because the slow computer sometimes has delay and dont want to click through main phase. U pick
Thank you lsv for all your draft videos you are awesome and you are my favorite drafter of all time
I like Chaos Wand in like 99% of decks. It feels like a very good card.
I feel like dispersing the child instead of the Mare was really the keyturn - even if you don't draw a land for 2 turns (or a tapped land) it couldnt attack again since he had no mana left to cast it, idk
I still really appreciate that this channel uploads drafts that go poorly as well.
Stammered That's great however playing single elimination ones (at least LSV does) on camera seems kinda strange then. I mean, people click the video to watch it so why make it drastically shorter?
Same here. It makes me feel a little better to know LSV gets bad land beats just like the rest of us schlubs.
Is 5th pick act of treason actually "late"? It's only highly valued in exactly one archetype, BR sacrifice. Ziddletwix Sure, whatever, a technicality.
I also feel the Act of Treason plan doesn't get there very often. You need cheap sack outlets, which there aren't very many of at all. Act was great in masters 25 because phyrexian ghoul was a common, and you also had fallen Angel and cards like cloudshift to combo with it too.

Well navigated as always LSV, but if you had shifted sooner you could have had 2 Sphinx which just seems insane with all of your fliers.
8:50 ''I love 7 mana golems'' - LSV Nice throwback to #Hexplate Golem !
Sébastien Paquin I smiled at that comment, too...
Great as always
Also congrats to Efro on his 23rd place finish in the WSOP Main Event, Sick run

really been enjoying this set

Turn 6 Mentor, play Wall - draw a card is a pretty good turn...
>have no spoiler video tail-buffer to hide outcome
>have single match listed in description
You should have known not to block with the thopter when you have two cards in hand that want it in play.
Regal bloodlord with mentor of the meek and some other lifegainer is just super fun
what is this on? and does it cost money? if so how much? I am interested in doing this haha
Why isn't chaos wand a maindeckable card? Almost every deck has removal to hit off of it
why non foil strangling spores?
I was hoping for lsv just to force mono red goblin tribal...the worst thing is, is that it might have actually worked out... *_Sigh_*
Wow 1 toughness creatures look punished in this format, scanner, archers at common and plague mare at uncommon.
Deck looked really sweet too bad we didn''t get to see 3 rounds
qazzaq Stan That's one thing, but this set in limited is strange as pretty much over half of the good, non-green creatures you encounter has flying.
That also looks true, I'm curious exactly what it will be like. I don't have an MTGO account so I'm waiting to draft in paper.
So happy you took the Sphinx.
If you think about it, playing 18 lands in draft is equivalent to playing 27 lands in constructed, and 16 lands is equivalent to 24 lands constructed. So in limited, I always play 15-17 lands, depending on what I'm doing.

Is there something wrong with the video? I can only see match 1. Matches 2 and 3 show that no spoilers end screen
It looks like it was single elim. He says something about it at around 46:30...
Why the preference of non-foil over foil?
Assuming in case he saw more throughout the draft - you'd rather have two non-foil than two mismatching (keeps info away from your opponent if they see your hand at any stage).
i didn't understood that either and it kind of made me mad
Foils can bend over time
the famous digital bending cards lol^
"I'm not gonna take the blue card" WHO ARE YOU, AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO LSV?
Omega Gaming lol I know, right?
What a weird draft. White ended up surprisingly open in p3

I agree, seemed very greedy, especially with lsv winning then long game no matter what
timmie timmins it's very illogical to play around a rare in banefire that was not present in game 1. You only play around rares when you're way ahead
I think you play around what you can afford to play around, and in this case, the risk of getting his child of night removed before it can trade and gain him two is significant. Myztik what kind of monster reads the comments first. The whole point is to comment on the video.

Yeah, trading the Skyscanner instead of the Child seemed pretty loose considering he had multiple artifact payoff cards in hand. Oh well.

YES YES YES YES GO GO GO
That extended screen times a little annoying.
Too many taplands is also a way to construct a greedy manabase, even if you do have a large number of sources that provide each color. Rupture spire in particular costs 2 mana to play and uses your land drop for the turn, not something I'd particularly want to run if I didn't have to.
Skyscanner seems like the type of card to be in a free to play game.
Hurt to watch him pass two early rabid bite.
Sky Skinner sounds really terrifying actually...

Oh look LSV is drafting WB lifegain
PSYCH there were blue cards in the packs

Greedy play in game 2.

Geez modern sets are so boring.
lol it's a core set, the whole point is to be simple
Fibonacci Spagetti it's a core set, we just had one a very strongly loved set in dominaria. So imo that's a false statement.
My point stands.
Dominaria was at least not sleep inducing. But I cant remember the last truly exciting set.
Fibonacci Spagetti what is the last one? I'm truly curious now? And what do you feel sets lately are missing?
