You don't need a fancy shop like he has ... A tape measure, circular saw ( be sure to use a plywood blade) electric drill or screw gun ( a magnetic extension helps but they make long screw bits & be sure to get the proper tip for the screws you are using), caulk line, a bottle of wood glue, sanding blocks or sand paper and framers square ( clamps do help but a family member or friend helping works better..think of the time together) ..all these are just base tools ... Design to your needs ☺..good luck👍

And one more thing, why in the world would anybody give this video a thumbs down, who would not like this video? People are just jealous, this guy explains everything in detail and he did an awesome job, people are just sad sometimes.

    • @AltruisticWarrior
      @AltruisticWarrior Місяць тому

I'm a carpenter but with far less tools at home. I mean, still a couple thousand worth but I don't have nearly his level of tools. That said, can still pull this off without this degree of tools. You just have to get a bit more creative. Like, instead of a track saw, a basic 6" circular saw and a straight guide would work. I've managed to remodel almost my entire house with the basic tools I have.

I came across similar problem that you had on hutch upper, side pieces. I pocket screwed them to the top and filled the exposed pocket holes with precut wood dowels angled specifically for filling these holes - found at Home Depot. I sanded them down and you can’t see them after paint. Your method is also good. That wall hump is so typical of builder tract houses. Belt sanders are god send! Great job and video too.

I made few cabinets with "adjustable" shelves for my family, friends and clients and since they call me on regular basis I always try to sneak a peak if they move the shelves. No one has moved them, including me.
I use the same jig as you but I drill every second or third hole because it looks less like swiss cheese or mass produced furniture.
I love your vids and I learn quite some stuff from you. Cheers!

Carpenter here. It was nice to see you scribed the back of the hutch for a nice fit. Since everything is just white I would get some white painters caulking and run the smallest bead along the back of the hutch where it touched the wall and where the drawer touches the wall too. Then scrape away excess with a putty knife. It will make the edges so incredibly crisp and professional looking. I mean it's a closet so no one will look that closely but I'm just a perfectionist and I think it just looks so good with that extra detail

Hey Brad. Another great video! Would be great to see a video that explains how you go about spacing drawers in a cabinet such as this. When there are several drawers within a single cavity. I like the idea of creating that spacer but getting the height measurement for the spacer, that’s the trick. Thanks again!

I designed a similar closet but instead of all those hanging rods, I designed it with fixed shelves on top of the middle drawers and on the right side I had a 32 inch in height shelf to fix a suitcase. Above that right side I had varying height shelves. There is a top shelf from left to right for blankets and other bigger items. On the right side are hanging rods for clothes. Keep in mind that this custom made design is for a vacation home and custom made accordingly. My nephew built it, he used poplar hardwood and birch plywood for the shelves. I posted the finished closet on Facebook in an ad and immediately got about 30 inquiries. The total material costs which included enamel based oil paint was about $400. It does add value to a house and not to mention it is a great use of bedroom space. Oh, and did I mention that women love those custom closets, especially my wife! LOL.

Nice video! I purchased the plans and they are very well laid out and easy to follow. I can tell you put a lot of time into them. Having the plans makes it so much easier to jump into this project, rather than trying to figure it out as we go. Which is whet we were going to do before I found your video. Also it keeps from wasting wood and messing up when you have a clear plan.

MDF is less expensive and has a very smooth surface. I am building built-in bookcases with it. For strength I glue to 1/2 inch panels together for a 1 inch shelf and sides. I have built bookcases like this in the past and it works really well. I love the idea of drawers in the closet. I fold most of my clothes anyway and it would give me far more storage that hanging! Thanks for the idea!

The K5 is awesome, I upgraded from the Harbor Freight jig and it's night and day.

I will try your suggestion to temporarily attach the drawer front with screws through the handle screw holes. Smart idea.

Nice build and video, well explained!
I stopped doing shelf holes a while ago because they were annoying to drill and don’t look good. Nowadays I either install the shelves fix or screw little support pieces on the side which I could reset later to a different height. Although somehow I never do it..

I think my answer of it being a Stage Illusion would have been cool... But this is very good as well.
Looking forward to seeing the big closet one 😊

Am I the only person that thinks this closet was empty to begin with? My God, my hall closet has that much crap in it but its 1/3 the size. This video was in my suggested video feed glad it was I enjoyed watching it and the commentary you added as well. Would love to see a standard closet converted into a craft storage closet. If interested I have a closet you can use for such a video.😊

I love these videos. I’ve watched countless ones... and just for the first time heard him referring to the Brad nails as... “Me Nails”.
    LOL 😂
