Y’all didn’t get it. In the original Frieza says the planet has 5 minutes left. Then like 10 episodes later it still hadn’t blown up
Supposedly there's a some weird math involved to where it's really is 5 minutes forget where I saw it..maybe film theory not sure
When Frieza said five minutes, he was referring to space minutes, which are much longer than regular minutes.

I see people are still trying to rationalize with "they were fighting at high speeds." So what? Their talking alone stretched out far longer than that five minutes.
But I suppose you could say it was space minutes, if you use its 2nd name - "filler" minutes.
People try to rationalize it, but it's really just weird pacing issues. This isn't the last instance of it, either - they'll be making fun of another one next season.

The fact they made their own rendition of “Day of Fate” says so damn much, and it’s not like it was bad, or mid or whatever. Instead IT GOES FUCKIN CRAZY JUST CAUSE THEY WANTED IT TO.
Let’s see. For some upcoming moments at the top of my head (as spoiler-free as possible), Future Boy (introduction & History of), that Vegeta scene, twins + redhead, Bugman, Bugman V2, Vegeta vs Bugman V2, Bugman V3, *FINAL FLASH!* (screw it, I’m using the actual name for this one), that Gohan scene, the announcement, the event, Mr. S, the REAL event, the shocking switch up, the scene that uses “Day of Fate”, the definition scene, the big POP scene, the (deadly) return, and that KAMEHAMEHA!!! scene.
No, the Super Saiyan transformation did not take that long. It took about 40 seconds. However, that being said, I would recommend reading the manga. It's much better paced, even comparative to Kai.
I think it was the SS3 transformation that took crazy long. I just remember goku screaming for an incredibly long time in the first SS3 transformation

No, Goku was a LOT crueler than "be nice and I'll let you go". He saw that Freeza's energy was already running out, just plain lost interest in fighting him, and intended to make him live with the fact that he couldn't defeat an "inferior monkey". But Freeza just didn't know when to fold.
Which really was an idiotic thing as it would just drive Frieza to get revenge on say a planet with no high powered defender if he'd just withdrawn and waited a week for Goku to find some off planet training to distract him. Or logicaly cybernetics better or equal to Gero's or as they retcon/explained trained for once in his life. Really should have just finished him off.
In the manga Goku sounds almost cruel, but in the end he feels bad for having hit Freeza (he thought he killed him with the last energy beam, and you can clearly see his sad expression). It's also pretty clear that he didn't really wanted to make him suffer since when Freeza asks for help, Goku shows anger because he realizes he can't avoid in helping him, even considering how bad Freeza is. Freeza himself was speechless because Goku helped him. He almost thanked him, but since Goku gave him a rough response (but right and understandable considering everything Freeza did), he felt offended and reacted as if he thought to be helpless.
@@krabkrabby I never saw Goku's expression at the end as sad for having killed Frieza. More disappointed that Frieza was so foolish as to throw his life away like that, rather than learn his lesson like all of Goku's past adversaries did.
@@gurvmlk I think it's easier to see that he's sad in the actual manga panels. His hand is depicted as if it was trembling and then his facial expression looks like he didn't wanna do it.

Idk id argue Gohans transformation to ss2 took quite awhile mainly due to cell having to push him to get there. I'd say that and ss3 is the longest and maybe even the fusions as well.
@@traelstechnologytmalsantua3471 yes but ssj3 was only 3 minutes, Gohan's ssj2 had him snapping and screaming for a few seconds and he transforms. the next episode recounts and expands the transformation to fit a few more minutes but no transformation comes even close to an episode or half an episode.

In the manga, the Super Saiyan transformation was just one page.
In the anime it was one episode as well 😭💀 y’all Overexaggerate it lol
The anime added a lot of filler so it didn't overtake the manga.
They're really overstating some of the transformation times. It's a long fight, and there's some filler, but it's not as bad as they're making it out to be. 20 episodes or so in total once Goku shows up to fight Freeza to the end of the arc.
That's still a roughly 3 hour fight.

I mean the current One Piece arc is closing in on 200 episodes. DBZ from the start through Freeza was just over 100.
it's the longest fight in anime history which isn't a bad thing but also yeah, transformations have never taken more than 1 episode
The thing with all of these "This power up took multiple episodes! That scream lasted an entire episode!" comments, is that you need to remember these are memories from when people were watching the episodes weekly. Things blend together. When you actually look at the times listed for events or battles, you can see they're actually FAR shorter than people say.
Or, in the cases where the episode length WAS that long, you'd see that the episode had other things cutting into it. Reactions/dialogue from other characters. Separate cut away scenes. Etc.
That's not to say there weren't any episodes that dragged on WAY too long. There was definitely some bad pacing in the original release because they were caught up with the manga and had to drag things out.
Heck, I remember hating the fight with Frieza when I first watched it because of the perspective of it being on TV. Despite that being on Toonami, which aired five episodes a week, the battle dragged (as in from the very start with Frieza in his first form) for so long that by time it was over several weeks later, I was sick of it. Watching it on DVD though, where I could binge watch the entire fight in just a few days, I found it to be a lot more enjoyable.

Uh yeah I think you guys are mixing up transformations. When Goku turned super Saiyan for the first time it was quick and at the end of the episode. You guys are thinking Super Saiyan 3 during the Buu arc. Thats the one thats a whole episode.

Nah, both of those are long, but they weren’t full episode long. I think the issue is Frieza powering up to 100%. THAT shit had like an entire clip show involved, it was insane.

The reason that episodes took so long at this point was that the anime had caught up with the manga so they had to spread a couple of pages across half an hour.
And Toei are just the best at extending scenes that're a page or even a panel or 2 into like 3 minutes XD

Just so you guys know, there was a scene cut out after the credits where frieza is still alive and gets saved by his father, and he becomes mecha frieza the reason it got cut out was because it used the revenge of the sith music for when anakin turns into darth vader.

It's really frustrating seeing them tell each other misinformation that they're not sure about as someone who just finished watching Dragonball Z Kai. It's fun watching these vids but I feel like u guys should just show each other the actual scenes in the video when you're not sure about something. Like watching short comparison vids after the Abridged episode ends before sharing what you thought about the episode idk. I'm not hate watching or anything I'm just giving some critism.
Stuff like saying that the Super Saiyan took 1-2 episodes to happen and Goku's VA passing out were misinformation. Goku's VA passed out in the buu Saga during the super saiyan 3 scene. And Super Saiyan only took 1 episode
It's not that Goku was "strong enough" to deny the dragon - he simply asked not to be brought back. They don't get into the reason in Abridged, but it's because he's training to control the Super Saiyan transformation (and probably also busy learning Instant Transmission). It may not have been obvious, but the Super Saiyan transformation is a berserker state. It's fueled by rage. Goku was fighting quite hard to keep control while using it, so before coming home, he wanted to get to the point where he could use it easily, without any fear of losing control and hurting his own friends and family.
goku is naive but he accomplished his task and broke frieza by humiliating him as much as possible and at that point friezas energy was dropping while gokus was rising so it wasn't even a fight anymore.

there's so much you miss without the context of the original series, literally multiple layers of reference and contextual jokes that make no sense without the DBZ Dub.
they will tell you themselves do NOT watch their series first because they make a lot of story beats assuming the audience knows where it's going next.

Goku's Super Sayajin Speech is a Reference to Darkwing Duck.
The speech yes like hman said was altered. In the original it is better because goku accepts his heritage as a saiyan and the dub went more super hero which was epic but unfitting for goku and his character arc.
You guys were off about what Frieza says the first time Goku leaves. Goku said that the fight was over, that there was no need to continue. Said Frieza wasn’t strong enough to win. That pissed off Frieza and he throws the disk. When Frieza is cut in half, Goku gives him the spare energy to live and Frieza did beg for that, but not how you guys said. It was when he was dying and cut in half. Then Frieza is revived with the power Goku gives him, then gets pissed off that Goku is treating him like he’s nothing and no one. Then Frieza attacks and Goku kills him

Goku let him go because he was clearly going to win, wanted to get out before planet exploded, and told Freeza that he would have to live with shame of knowing he was defeated by a Saiyan. Freeza only started to beg after he got cut in half, and Goku didn't ask him to promise to not kill anyone. He was furious, asking how he dared to ask for pity after killing so many people, but as Freeza continued to beg he gave in and saved his life.

and just to clarify.. in the original version of the Anime, After Frieza said the planet would blow up in 5 minutes.. it blew up around 5-6 episodes later... leading to many jokes about how time seems to flow differently or Frieza doesn't understand how long a minute is
Also.. Sean Schemmel the V.A for Goku Passed out doing the Transformation for Super Saiyen 4 in Dragon Ball GT, According to him he was exhausted before hand and he underestimated how draining it was going to be on him
And ya.. The fight With Frieza is just.. .overall Stupidly long, Even Kai with cutting out scenes the fight between Goku and Frieza is still 10 episodes long

Super Saiyan transformation lasted about 40 seconds, it's the SS 3 transformation that took a bit, and not even that long, the first SSJ3 transformation took about five minutes.
Fun fact: the fight between Goku and Frieza is the longest in anime history
They are greatly exaggerating the time it takes for stuff to happen in DBZ. Goku turns Super Saiyan in episode 95 and the arc is over after episode 107. The whole series is only 291 episodes. For comparison that's about the middle of the Enies Lobby arc for One Piece.

Everything about the screaming part was overly exaggerated. It does NOT take that long. But the manga is actually incredible and an awesome reading experience definitely recommend
YES read the manga, it’s so good. Especially OG dragonball, the anime is really old and low quality but the og dragonball manga is good as fuck
The original show is very entertaining and the Manga is fantastic. I recommend both.
NOW, some curiosity about the original manga/anime:
Dragonball is a parody of the book Sayiuki (or "travel to the west", I'm not sure how the English title is), and I'm not referring to the manga called "Sayiuki" (which is another interpretation of the same story, btw).
In the original book Son Goku (Sun Wu Kong I think it's the original chinese name), it's something like a magic creature with the look of a monkey. That's why Goku become a giant monkey monster in DB.
Also Akira Toryiama (the original mangaka), said that he took inspiration by Superman and Hulk (and some other American comics) to create his story (that's why Goku looses control as a super sayan, and that's also why he's an alien who went on earth as a child after his planet exploded).
Akira Toryiama intended to create a funny shonen but with comic traits, that's why it has so many weird and funny stuff in it. Basically it's not a serious manga, it's a parody of many genres, but it's so well done that people took it seriously and so Toryiama started to write in a more serious way in Dbz (and still you can see stuff like Genew force...). He also said he created Freeza thinking about a mix between his editor, and a company man, or something. XD
No, the transformation took few seconds, and one or 2 pages in the manga. Goku isn't a bad father in the original, he's just very focused on his tasks of both being super strong to protect the earth and to fight other warriors.
That's because sayan people feel the need to fight as a natural instinct. Just remember that they're not humans, they're like werewolves.
Gohan doesn't really like to fight because he's half-blood.
Goku is also very intelligent and smart, he's just naive. He's the greatest martial artist existent since he's able to remember, comprehend and imitate any technique he sees, and he's also able to create new techniques.
He is a great problem solver and he's a pure heart, 100% good, even in his baddest moment (in fact he's able to run the flying nimbus, which can be only used by very good souls).
You must consider that Super sayan form is exactly like Hulk for Banner.
The fact he's able to keep control and feeling bad for Freeza and helping him, is a demonstration of how good he really is.
Goku in the manga (and in the anime) felt sincerely sorry for Freeza.
Also differently by Vegeta, Freezer is more sensitive to Goku's words. Basically they spend just an afternoon together, but Freeza starts to feel ashamed by his actions after Goku talked to him in super sayan form (thought he didn't admitted it). Freeza, in fact, starts to justify himself, pointing out that even sayan were very bad people and probably more dangerous than him.
In the end, Freeza says something like: ".. I didn't expected you would have really given your energy to me..." then Goku gives a rough (but right) response to him which clearly hit Freeza's feelings, who instantly changes his attitudes. He clearly never experienced all of that and he wasn't able to manage the situation in the logical way.
When Goku says "I'll survive", Freeza thinks "I'll survive too, so I must to kill you..." as if he can't see another way, but he looks very hurt.
After Goku defeats him, he stares for few seconds with a sad expression.
And there you realize Goku and Freeza really had a moment, and you also realize how much mercifully Goku is.
Btw, considering how strong this scene was (specially in the manga), Freeza's death because of Trunks hands, is a bit disappointing, even if you think about karma for Vegeta.
Talk about exagerating Goku's transformation in the original run, it wasn't that long, I think one minute was all it took.
As a child I had to run home just to watch these episodes. It took months. Just to see these

SO, did Freeza really mean "breath in space" like actually breath-ING, .... maybe he can absorb gases through his body... like a kind of solid/gas type of osmosis....? Yall giving the complete wrong information here, the SSJ transfomation was quick, the long one is when he goes SSJ3 where he screams for about 3 minutes, but when he passed out was when he was going SSJ4 in GT, and the entire Goku vs frieza fight was about 5 hours
They mentioned that Killin is dead for good, what they don't know is that technically by the way the dragon balls on earth work, he might as well be.

The original transformstion is only 1 min and 22 seconds real time. The longest transformation is 8 mins. But its the fights that take forever and the gathering energy for the spirit bomb
You guys are confusing the SSJ1 and SSJ3 transformation, not sure how long SSJ1 took, but SSJ3 is like 4-5 mins of screaming, and i think the VA mentioned he didnt pass out while recording Z, but in GT during the SSJ4 transformation.
The longest transformation is probably ssj3 which is only 5 minutes.

I think the reason they couldn’t wish Goku to earth was because each dragon has its limits like Shenron couldn’t bring back a person who has died twice, of natural causes, and it has to be within a certain time frame I think. The namekian dragon can’t teleport someone who doesn’t want to be teleported i think either Thank or or goes back to the restrictions that the wish can not exceed the creators power goku having ssj would put him above the porungas creators strength so maybe he just pressed decline and continued training 💀

Fun fact: The transformation in TFS is actually based on the manga, where it happens over the course of a page.
Btw, Frieza’s ship having a Muffin Button actually makes sense. The ship Goku took to Namek reused the tech from the Saiyan pod Goku came to Earth in, and Dr. Briefs didn’t install the button. So obviously that tech came from the Saiyan pod

He wanted to kill somebody evil to stop him from causing evil again but one friend of his convinced him not to do it so from then on he was more *naive* or whatever you want to call it. It's not just randomly that he lets every one go, he had to learn that in dragon ball because he was prepared to kill at the age of 10-12

The transformation didn't take an entire episode, but the episode ended when he just finish transforming, then you have to wait another week to see it.
