Chiappa Rhino 200D .357 Magnum Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 кві 2016
- In this episode of TFBTV, James evaluates the Chiappa Rhino, the unique, new revolver from the Italian manufacturer. The Rhino, unlike nearly every revolver before, fires from the bottom chamber of the cylinder, not the top. Chiappa claims that this drastically reduced felt recoil. James gladly puts this to the test in this review. James runs the 200D, a 2" .357 magnum/.38 special. For a shooting-only montage: • Shooting The Chiappa R...

God damnit, James
+MrWhiteRabbitt #dadjokes
do you write your own jokes?
+MrWhiteRabbitt i vote worst joke of 2016, who agrees?
+marxman__1839 that would give it credit and I vote no ....we need to just forget it happened.
carlos spicywiener so true
All of these tacticool dudes on UA-cam, and you look like you're about to do a keg stand at a frat party. Fuck yes.
+Kevin Sanderson LOL Don't let looks fool you, I served some time in the bush myself: i.imgur.com/FRHZngt.png
+TFB TV ha ha ha
+TFB TV funniest thing ever!
+TFB TV Yup--we've all been there once or twice, some bush much more unpleasant than others...and yes, some the cause of PTSD to this very day...Semper Fi!
Yes! Such a refreshingly different approach!
I've fired the rhino before. I fell in love with it instantly. That bottom-cylinder firing system makes a HUGE difference.
It's a waste of potential it isn't made in 44 Magnum.
@@bodinian Don't take my word for it, but I think that will be very uncomfortable to shoot.
"it's only got a 2" barrel so the velocity is going to be significantly reduced from a 3" barrel." well, it's a good thing Chiappa makes a 3" and 5" model.
Jacob, looking at that ballistics chart he posted earlier, it seemed to be showing that the biggest performance deficit was in barrels below 4". After 4", the gains from extra length begin to diminish. But between, 2 & 4 inches, the increase is very sharp. It is as if the 357 round wants a barrel length of at least 4". However, i have never tried tried to CC a 4" revolver. Don't know how much more inconvenient it would be. But according to that chart, it would probably perform much better than the 2".
I had the 6" and I loved it. Not so good for concealed though
Actually, .357 out of a 2 inch barrel is significantly over 1000 FPS. Paul Harrell did a video comparing it to .38 special and it consistently was around 1100-1200 FPS.
Do all of them come with a holster? I'd get the 3 of 4 inch if it came with the leather holster. Not that big into leather but idk what company makes a kydex holster for a rhino lol
@Mr Papagiorgio I was quoting the reviewer
1) I'm so FIRSTY
2) A shooting only montage is here for those who want less talk and more shoot. We are experimenting with this in the next few weeks to see if it is a popular feature: ua-cam.com/video/_6_gYDoKY9Q/v-deo.html

+TFB TV You mentioned the trigger packs from Chiappa, do you have to call Chiappa to get them? I would love to see if I could get a trigger upgrade on mine
+Andrew Leatham I don't know, but I imagine that's the case. Check out your manual and there's a page dedicated to it. If you decide to do this, shoot me an email or leave a follow up comment, because I want to know what goes down. - James
TFB TV Only cause you're so cute, will I do that
Robert Barnett III I can cock the hammer with the thumb on my firing hand, but a lot of people I take out to shoot it, cannot
+TFB TV Mateba, Mateba, Mateba! x3 But, Emilio Ghisoni was behind both the Mateba designs along with the Chiappa Rhino design. So, this was really more-so a less-complicated and probably less-expensive successor to the Model 6 Unica and the 2006M.
I have a Chiappa 200DS, it's my favorite snubbie revolver. I shot well over 1, 000 rounds with no problems whatsoever. The control of the muzzle when shooting 357Mag. feels like shooting a 22Mag.
And yes, we all know that: a bottom cylinder firing wheelgun called MATEBA was made before... by the same guy who made the Rhino: Emilio Ghisoni
A hun used in Bladerunner, Ghost In The Shell, and Firefly. Talk about future proof!
All else aside- The hexagonal cylinder is straightup BEAST AS HELL!!! I can't for the life of me understand why this hasn't been implemented before, especially for concealed carry. It definitely leans out the widest area of revolvers, making them that much more concealable
3:07 “Six sided cylinder”? No wonder I flunked geometry!
Lol
😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣
People did think of it before, it was called the Mateba and it's one of the coolest revolvers ever made.
+Nukleon Well... Emilio Ghisoni designed the MaTeBa (Macchine Termo Balistiche, Thermo-Ballistic Machinery) revolvers (several models actually, although the Autorevolver is the one that got more, albeit limited, success), Antonio Cudazzo developed the basic idea of the Rhino and patented its features together with Ghisoni.
The Rhino design was offered to a few manufacturers and Chiappa took it on board.
Others who had ideas similar to Ghisoni's were the Russians, they developed some more traditional revolvers firing from hour 6 chamber; parallel development in the period of Ghisoni's first prototypes.
+Nukleon Was that because you watched Ghost in the Shell? :p
There's this website floating about that literally fellatiates everything related to Emilio Ghisoni. Apparently he actually designed the Rhino years after designing the Mateba, but died before he could see it through. Thankfully, a business partner and Chiappa helped it come to life.
They're back in production now, but still crazy expensive
Got a 6 Unica sitting on my desk as we speak =)
I love my Rhino!! I carry a 5" model on a daily basis. By far the smoothest gun I've ever shot. Happy to see that y'all have finally caught up with the times and did a review on this outstanding weapon. The only problem that I've had was finding a holster for the larger barrel size, but once I found one, it's been on my hip every day.
+coachj1983 Cool, details on the holster?
+GiolliJoker Picked it up from squaredawaycustoms.com. Awesome custom made holster company.
@@coachj1983 I've been carrying the 4" model for 2 years now. Do you still carry the 5" Rhino today ? Any updates or advice ?
I carry the 2 inch in an ankle holster as a backup to my staccato CS that I carry IWB strong side.
I'm not really into firearms, but u can tell when a lot of thought and ingenuity gos into something. That is really cool revovler, I want one now.
It's a great conceal carry! I have one and it's amazing! You could drop it, pistol whip someone with it hardcore and it wouldn't go off!
If that rhino doesn't look like the revolver of the future, idk what does. Looks like it's fresh out of a sci fi movie. I'd definitely like to try one out. Another excellent review, James.
+Dylan Rutan Thanks, Dylan. I think it looks legit, I don't get the 'ugly' comments. - James
TFB TV people just aren't ready for the future haha
yeah, it looks exactly like togusa's revolver from ghost in the shell.
+LoneWanderer360 www.imfdb.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Shell_Stand_Alone_Complex#Mateba_2008M Its a fictional model in the mateba lineup of revolvers. Mateba was a firearms company started by Emilio Ghisoni. He died after designing the Rhino. Search for the youtube user lifesize potato who has done several videos on the mateba autorevolver and other guns from the mateba company which is no longer in existence.
LoneWanderer360 cool its a newer fictional model. i love the p90 from that movie too
2:47 that ricochet tho
Got to hang those steel targets from a chain!
Losing 33% of the barrel length for a 10-20% muzzle velocity decrease on what is a compact, close range weapon sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
+6Twisted Hmmmm...smart way to look at it. - James
+TFB TV Chiappa Rhino comes in barrel lengths of 2",4",5" and 6", so there are options.
+6Twisted I'd factor in the entire body length in the equation, not just barrel length.
El Bandito Maybe, but the barrel starts at about the end of your grip.
+6Twisted In my eyes the only reason to care about it being so compact would be for concealment. In which case more than just the barrel length matters.
Thank you for the review. I own the new Rhino 30DS which is the 3" model and absolutely love it. I've owned .357 magnum revolvers but none that was as fun to shoot as the Rhino.
i never realized how much i could want something that i never knew existed until moments before
swish007 .
The firearms world does this to me on a regular basis. It's quite painful to my wallet.
*disclaimer: The Rhino revolver is NOT related to Mitt Romney or Charlie Baker
ha, ha thats good. Lets throw
in my personal favorite, LISA MURKOWSKI😥
Texas RINO John Cornyn.
There actually has been quite a number of bottom firing revolvers throughout history. Granted, the Chiappa line is arguably the most popular and prolific.
Lots of great info. I was really impressed with the technicality of the info i was given.
First time I've seen one of your reviews and I'm very impressed! It is really refreshing to catch a review of an innovative product - especially a firearm- where the reviewer doesn't whine about how this new product sucks because it's not like the run of the mill products he is used to. ( reviewers of bullpups are notorious for that.)
Or they are so overenthusiastic that they downplay any shortcomings.
This was, in my opinion, a very fair and honest review. I sub'd.
8:21 sasquatch sighting
lol.
Lmfao
TheAlmightyCon lol yeah!
laughing out loud.
It was creepy coot er
And what I really want is Emilio Ghisoni to rise from the dead and bring back the Mateba. (I believe he worked with Chiappa to design the rhino after his own company failed).
Matter of fact, he actually did. The Matebas also had the barrel on the bottom, just like the Chiappas.
Such an amazing gun for personal defense. Compact and lethal.
This was a very well articulated and comprehensive review. Subscribed and I hope more do, haha.
When he runs out of rounds...
he can button up his shirt for 3 extra shots.
Get a new face job and real rhino that you can roide
😂😂
Thanks for pointing out the drop off in velocity with 357 magnum. People have a tendency to get stuck on the caliber and forget how reliant it is on barrel length. There's a reason service revolvers had the barrel lengths they did.
Murphy82nd 3
Murphy82nd Yup; this gun would be much better suited for 327. Which beats the 357 in 2in barrels.
@@ryanm9105 They have a 3 inch barrel now.
Isn’t lower velocity better? Lower velocity = more knock down power ..
You have to keep in mind that those BBTI tables are unvented test barrels measured from crown to breech. A 2" 357 revolver is almost 4" crown to breech, and to complicate things further, it's vented (cylinder gap).
It doesn't have "a 2-inch barrel", it has a 2 inch wheel AND a 2 inch barrel. So compared to autos, you're getting more barrel length in similar sized guns. The revolver will lose some of it's pressure after the cylinder, but by then, that bullet is already at a pretty high speed. Many more factors to look at, but in short we can state that revolvers shoot at higher speeds than autoloaders. Peace
For a real world review I appreciate knowing the approximate number of rounds fired and malfunctions if any... I give even more weight to follow up reviews of carry or working pieces. You know more after living with something a while.
2:47 watch out for that ricochet
Shrapnel kills.
i have already watched this video... yet here I am again
I carry a 200D and I absolutely love it.
Took me a while to get used to it but I have to agree with you.
It’s a favorite of mine. It’s one of the few I own. So I don’t have much to compare to. But I love the gun. The recoil is minimal for the the bang it produces.
lol, "chiappa" means "ass cheek" in italian! 😂😂😂
i know :)
🤣
I want one even more now! haha
Being Italian I can’t avoid laughing 😂
Haha that's funny asf
Thank you for the review. I have been looking into these pistols for a long time and I would like a smaller carry than what I have right now. I love the design of these things and thank you for teaching me how to pronounce their name correctly haha.
I have the 6" Gold Chiappa Rhino which is a pleasure to shoot. Thank you for the review.
The02seta , very cool, I bet that there is almost no recoil. probably like a 22LR
Thanks very much for the review. I had seen mention of this gun a few years ago, then not much.
First time I've visited your site. Even though I have watched a lot of other Rhino videos, I found yours very informative. The only thing I'd ask for is your thoughts after firing 38 and 38+P in it as well.
I'm convinced James does a couple bicep curls before every video, there is no way he is that vascular. Great review, keep up the good work
oh geeeeeeezth
That is standard "movie making" operating procedure.
This is a very objective and informative review of the Chiappa Rhino, especially the ballistic review.
I carry one of these and I use the moon clips instead of speed loaders. I love my little Rhino.
I have a construction analogy for you all, from a building construction point of view, which is inherently all about design, eh?
That is, we hang sheetrock all day long and we use guns to accomplish the task, and although they are powered by electricity, not powder, there is an important similarity.
It is ergonomics.
Try driving screws all day long with a conventional drill motor, with a conventional tee handle, and you will soon become exhausted, and not by the work but rather the task of speed and accuracy as its design seems to be intended to fight you.
Now grab a Screwrunner. A tool designed to drive screws through sheetrock into studs all day long.
The first thing you notice is that it is designed to drive the screws from your palm.
That is, in any gun design meant to drive a projectile, it seems more natural and efficient from the palm, not the wrist.
I respect that David slew Goliath from the wrist, but had David a self-propelled projectile, I believe he would have preferred the Rhino.
I own one, they are great revolvers. Very superior to J-frame revolvers. Also, the design isn't meant to be used two handed or shot at targets farther than 10m. It's meant to be used up close and one handed, hit hard, and not jam in the heat of the moment during a physical struggle.
Perfect: I’ve been searching all over for someone to talk about recoil with this gun. Straightforward is good bro 😎 I’m a new shooter so I’m often looking at your old stuff. If you haven’t you should do this one again. With both 2” & 3”. In my view it’s the coolest looking revolver ever. 😂
I like the way you post vids on youtube, very simple and straightforward, not to mention humble and moderated. btw I wish Chiappa would sell those revolvers here in my country. I would buy the 4 inch one in a heartbeat.
Cheers
Thanks!
This fella looks like Mykel Hawkes long lost brother..Good info and review of this oddballish revolver.
i've wanted any variant of the rhino since i first saw em a few years ago, too bad no gun shops (at least here in portland) have I seen one.
Good, informative review, and well presented.
So much fun to shoot any of the Rhinos. So much more comfortable, I did burn my finger first shot. But when I looked at my off hand grip, I deserved it. Super accurate guns I have shot all including the newest and I like the 50ds best for casual shooting and carrying while hiking.
I dig the Blade Runner vibe of the 4" one with wood grips.
I know some people say theyre the ugliest gun ever made, but I appreciate their looks for that futuristic scifi/angular European thing they got goin on. Not high on my list but theyre cool just for the novelty... Maybe not CC though because of the complicated internals.
2:47 look at the water
Very well put together, well shot, informative review.
I love my 3' rhino, I have owned it for 2 years now. Only issue I notice is my black finish seems to be wearing a little.
I want this gun for concealed carry, is that a reasonable expectation from this pretty lil revolver?
I really like that rhino 357 dude.....
It's clear to see in the video that the blowback is mutch less with this revolver and indeed the followup shot is easily made,...never heard of this interesting weapon so great informative vid you guy's,...thank's 👍.
A very good and informative review. Thanks very much for that.
MsG
We're at the range today so please bear with the sound of gun fire in the background.
I'm pretty sure that phrase is the intellectual property of Paul Harrell.😄
I love my Rino ❤️ this is one of my carry guns
You have a valid point with the cocked indicator being the same color as the front sight. They should do something about that. This is not a problem with larger rhinos because the rear sight is adjustable and makes it easier to identify the front sight from the indicator.
Great video!
This scratches the Blade Runner itch.
"Unlike any other revolver..."
"Why has no one thought of this before?"
What is the Mateba?
Thank you for the review of this gun. Firing from the bottom cylinder is new to me. This'll suit me right next to a Life Card
a fine an realistic review. Well done. Really nice gun
The best gun to remember your promise with
Signalis?
Reminds me of a little vash the stampede gun lol
zoomie_mob yes exactly what I was thinking
I love you for this lol. Brought back good memories, love that anime.
I have the exact handgun but with a 4 inch barrel and it's amazing I love it
I miss mine it was a great concealed carry as a primary and as secondary (for when I go back home to Detroit) now it did take me three rang trips before I could get my groups together which might not be the gun because it was my first 357
Such a beautiful gun. Looks like something out of Blade Runner, and that gun has been used in quite a few different Sci Fi movies and shows.
Definitely inspired by Deckard's Blaster from Blade Runner! :)
That thing was awesome!
I like it, looks alike a good stopper ! BRAVO !
great review
why isnt the nagant mechanism used for higher savety since you can get burned realy easily?
Adds a lot of weight to the trigger pull because of the additional work needed to move the cylinder. - James
+TFB TV thanks for the answer
Was thinking about this same mechanism as I watched the video, I too appreciate the answer James!
and if you just make pushing the cylinder the safety pull weight?
Now you and Yankee Marshall can be EDC twinsies!
Ewww God no
Ricochet/bullet fragment impact at 2:46 (technically it's at 47 seconds, the second shot you see after that timestamp). Look in the puddle in the tracks just under his outstretched arms. It makes a splash! Looks like it might be like 90ish degrees off the target maybe 20 feet away. Yay eye protection!
Love the look, and I really want one. I'd have some concerns about cylinder burn. Other than that, finding and affording one would be issue...especially the 3" stainless.
Ive been debating on my new want for a revolver, cant make my mind on a 357 or tarus judge, and this looks pretty sweet
Whisper. Raging judge
I really hope you didn’t go for the Raging Judge.
I was disappointed by the judges performance. Good for close and ugly and nothing else.
Lou Diamond Philips is doing gun reviews now? Damn
Craig Christ that was gold
Chavez Chavez knows his revolvers.
that's the best he did since la bamba.
Bats is the greatest movie ever made.
Highly detailed review, very interesting revolver to carry in pockets.
Very concise and well articulated
I'm not a revolver fan by any means, but I like everything about this gun. I'd CCW/CPL one of these for sure. I want to get one, but I have a feeling the second I do they're going to release a 3inch barrel version. You didn't mention the fiber front sight, but I find that being a great standard feature as well, just like on the Springfield XD line which is my every day carry.
It's available at several barrel lengths, I think there's one close to 3" (but I might be wrong).
+Jason “cyberspace entity” Doe They come in 2" 4" 5" & 6". There is also a white, all chrome finish, version. They're amazing well-balanced even at 6".
Jason Doe e everything but 3 inch.
airbomb34 Oops, I see!
Mateba!
Do you have a Mateba video? I searched and couldn't find anything
@Liverpool 11 He also runs a site called Matebafan. com
Excellent video! just got my 200DS and been waiting for at least 2 years. I haven't shot it yet but your video familiarized me with it, Thanks! and what kind of camaras are you using for this video? crystal clear quality!!!
How about making a review of the longer versions in order to test the accuracy? Thank you.
"let's get the Rhino out of the room"
Please just stop... Just please stop.
Man the cat i must have this pic of the cat pls
Rage__ Because the Rhino has more Brsins than the Elephant????
8:24 BIGFOOT!!!
That gait though!
Good Video! Thx for sharing your experience!
A common mistake using Ballistics by the Inch data is that they measure *all* barrel lengths from the breech face. This means a 2" .357 revolver is closer to 4" by their method than 2". What they're calling a 2" barrel would be less than 1/2" in regular revolver terms.
Looks a lot like Decker's gun from Blade Runner.
They were featured prominently in the Total Recall remake.
www.imfdb.org/wiki/Total_Recall_(2012)
shitty movie cameo is not helping
I’m trying to get orange grips for mine for that reason
RIGHT???
Need a Rhino, and that Bladerunner trench coat.
I would get this gun just because it looks cool
If you're a regular heroine user. Sure. Suppose it looks great.
@@ZS6JMP Musket users probably said the same about modern revolvers! LOL
@@patricksmith8906 Back then it was much harder to score some smack, tho.
I've been interested in these for some time, all because of the lineage they share with the Mateba revolvers. I really want one in .357 or .40 with a longer barrel, and it will likely be the only wheel gun I own with the exception of my blackpowder 1851 Colt Navy and 1858 Remington.
I love my Rhino 60DS! My favorite in my pistol collection!
4:45 last round of the six. delayed ignition? or just me?
there HAVE been bottom cylinder firing revolvers. Take a look at the Mateba unica model 6, or the 2006m (I think that's what it's called)
+Jason Mendiola i.imgur.com/3oNSATQ.jpg
TFB TV calling it as I see it but :)
+Jason Mendiola Just messing with you, but notwithstanding the fact that literally everyone knows what the Mateba is, there's probably 100 comments in here about it. Thanks for being a good sport. - James
+TFB TV 👍
+Jason Mendiola The bore axis is different. The internals are totally different. And the same inventor invented both. The Rhino was the last major invention he came up with before he died, which is likely why there haven't been any follow up innovations like alternate calibers, frame sizes or remodelled designs for more classical shooters.
It is, unfortunately, a tiny bit of a dead-end because Chiappa rarely does anything truly ground breaking normally.
Innovative, i like it. Innovation in the firearms industry has got to be very difficult
There was a revolver manufactured with not only a bottom barrel but also was semi auto, not double action actual semi auto fire, looks great too but quite rare now.
Nifty little gun, however I would be concerned to carry it due to the modified grip; in a high stress, high tension environment you may not have time to modify your grip correctly, not to mention the fact that the pain from the escaped gas could completely throw off your aim. That being said, if you made this a carry gun you would train extensively I would imagine.
this was my major concern. I think it's an awesome firearm, but that point concerns me
Alexander High gloves, maybe?
you're not going to be wearing gloves at a random instance where you'd need a compact gun. Especially if you're a civilian.
Needledrop Stan training then?
Im going to go out on a limb here and say that your not going to feel a little burn due to adrenaline in said situation. You could probably blow off part of your finger (not that it would happen in this case) in a firefight and not realize it at all until its over.
2:48 for ricochet
Is there any chance of getting a review on any the 4", 5", or 6" version? Preferably with both .357 and .38 rounds. The Rhino is such an oblique revolver, it definitely has a "fun factor" associated with it and I am sure many of us would appreciate seeing how the wilder side of their line holds that fun.
Sweet review!!
