- This simple cover for your soft boxes will help you create dramatic images that look like they were taken with a Maxi Brute, Audience Blinder or Mole Richardson Fay circular continuous lights. Unlike the real thing, you wont need a generator and a grip truck!

Thanks John. I just purchased all 4 Godox soft boxes and 4 light mods. This is definitely pricey but I can also use it for my product Broll and UA-cam video set if I’m not using it for photography. That’s my way of justifying it lol
No problem! I’m glad you like it and look forward to seeing it in the background! This sort of evolved from my cut up vflat idea so I guess we’ve come full circle!
@@JohnGress I see what you did there ⚪️
Another great video! in 2019 I started making pics for my daughter's online jewelry business launch (reflectors from Homedepot etc). Since then it's been a great journey of learning. Today you've pushed my experimentation-button! Next on the list is continuous lights together with a speedlight and CTO/CTB gels. Thank you for this video!
Thanks! Glad it’s going to push you to experiment. I actually just made a video for my online learning platform where I mixed these very lights with strobe.
@@JohnGress Your learning platform is definitely a must for any photographer looking to move to the next level in skills and overall business information! I’m following you and dm you on Instagram.
Thank you so much Luis!
would love to see something/portrait shot in a small studio with a 8.20 feet high ceiling and 10 feet wide and 13.20 feet deep. no reason 😅
Love the videos John, keep them coming.
Thanks Rob! Making things work in a small space is on my list.
@@JohnGress thank you.
Your videos are always so great and informative! Thank you for all your efforts. I have a question in regards to the Studio Titan 360 MK2 - is it worth getting this model or would the 380 do the job? How useful is it to have the horizontal bar move? I'm from Australia and to have it shipped to me is costing $1000USD just for the shipping! :(
Oh dear! That is a lot! Thank you so much BTW.
I didn't think I needed that horizontal arm, but i use it all of the time. It's a lot easier to move the camera position a few cm than the whole stand. When it comes to photographing people, the max working height of 160cm on the 380 seemed too short, so I chose the 180cm tall 360. Plus, I have gone all the way to the top on more than one occasion.
Given the cost of the item plus shipping I would get the 360, because you're better safe than sorry.
I don't know if you contacted Studio Titan directly, but maybe they can do something about the shipping.
@@JohnGress Thank you so much for your response. This has definitely helped me move towards the 360! Very good points! Thank you! Time to save up I guess 😅
That's good to hear. It will be worth it. The 360 is a beautiful precision machine!
Thank you John!!....your videos are always top notch!....which model is your Chauvet smoke machine? Can't wait to get these mods!
Thanks Dave! Chauvet Lighting Chauvet DJ 700 Hurricane Fog Machine

@@JohnGress Thanks!...do you use only Chauvet fluid or will and high density fluid work? Figured this would be more feasible than aerosol cans.
I don't think the fog juice I am using is anything special. I used the machine over aerosol because I already owned the machine. Perhaps the aerosol would be a better choice because it won't overwhelm the room like the fog machine, but then again, you'll need an assistant to use the aerosol.
That’s what I was thinking too. I would only use it in short bursts for each subject I’d be shooting anyway… The fan will come in handy to clear things out and reset if need be. Thanks for the info!
Sure thing. I also bought a 1/8 or 1/4 black pro mist filter too (which I haven't tried yet), maybe that would be an option for you too.
I feel like it would be 100x more effective to get that look with just some black poster boards cut out and arranged with black tape seaming them together it would take a little work to do it but I think it would be more symmetrical and easier to back light than trying to get 4 soft boxes and stands set up behind the subject and you could probably just light the poster board wall with two lights it probably only cost a few dollars and a couple hours to do
Funny you should mention that, because this product was born out of an evolution of an idea where I did just that. The problem with the cut out method is that it requires a lot of cleaning up in post, lacks durability and it's hard to transport. Please see these two videos: ua-cam.com/video/9J2R_0xHfAM/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/MmIn5J22lV0/v-deo.html
@@JohnGress totally agree I'm just saying the wall would definitely be easier of a setup than trying to get 4 stands and soft boxes perfectly straight. maybe you should make a collapsible wall backdrop that has the holes feel like it's so much easier to light and wouldn't require having four soft boxes and lights
great....too bad it gets so expensive with the current dollar rate against my money. Do you know the one thing that I think would be amazing to shoot with this? a tiffen black mist pro filter. I think it would look great with effect in the lights. although they are very expensive too ahahahah
Oh that is a good idea. It would be way better to get a fog look without the fog!
@@JohnGress hahaha exactly what I was thinking...
I might try it, but it will regrade the contrast on the subject too.
@@JohnGress if you can post the results I'm really curious about it... Yes it will lower the contrast but I think will gonna give it a cinema look.
It seems like a good one-off kind of lighting situation but photographing a an individual from a sports team with this doesn't mean you want to keep repeating it every year. Because young athletes would like a different look with their pictures
It looks as if at least 50% of the light is ‘wasted’ by the mask. Will the ‘stadium floodlight look’ quickly become clichéd ?
Softboxes waste 75% to 87.5% of the light coming out of the flash tube.
@@JohnGress So with the wastage by the mask, there’s not much left.
