Fascinating. I have found with my loco that the rear driving wheels move forwards and backwards as the loco runs. It looks like either shorter conrod bolts should have been used or packers put on the conrods as I think the conrods are sliding along the bolt. Full size I estimate this would be lateral slop of approx. 5 inches! It also seems like the hole in the conrod is a little big for the bolt adding to slop.
I have disassembled the loco but there is not much I can do immediately, though will look to remove the conrod bolts and install some tiny packing, brass tube or something, to see if that clears up the movement.
Also the wheels on the coaches rub on the outer frame on the R3 bend which creates an annoying sound but also perceptively slows the loco on the bends especially when running at low speed (which still seems a high scale speed).
I have ordered the Eastern set and am overall excited for the Hornby TT120 scale. I hope the issues I have had are just early QC things and in time quality will improve as I am fully prepared to go all-in on TT120. Visually the Scotsman set is superb and the couplers provide wonderful close coupling.

Many thanks for posting these. Very helpful. If you could find an alternative controller to use, would you post a brief update? Really interested in the slow speeds over points, but guess the 08 will be better geared for that than the A1/A3s.

Try a gauge master controller .They're based at Arundel.

I'm just waiting for a bit because defects bug me on a new model so I wait for them to sort out the problems before buying one

I have managed to get a very comprehensive layout on a sheet of 8' x 4' insulating board, (Kingspan). Hopefully many months of building ahead. I found N gauge too fiddly, and hadn't the space or 00. I bought both train sets, as this is the cheapest way to get started

Good move....I've always thought the best way to get into any model railway is a couple of trains sets; two controllers two trains and enough track to build a decent sized oval with sidings.

Have to say like it - superb detail (apart from some QC - hopefully early batches), well made by the Chinese hard workers, great and innovative coupling, also Ba11sy move by Hornby but make sense to make a more popular scale in US / Europe, ride trade off between size, detail and scale. Again my only moans are the entry price getting into the new Scale (no cheaper starter sets), lack of UK 2nd hand market of this scale, Hornby exclusively only selling direct, getting punters to switch / add a new layout, etc and off course the price isn't much cheaper than OO scale equivalents.

Hi Richard. Let's hope Hornby step up to the mark!

The long fur animal pet and the carpet are the reasons, I have bought Tillig TT "Bettungsgleis" - "Tracks with bed". Nice stuff. I would like to see it with coupled coaches. I wish I could buy it, but I have not seen yet in our shops.

Great to read that you too are happy with the overall performance and quality of this set . I agree that track power connector is not very good . I do hope that there will a more robust alternative soon otherwise it's going to have to be a soldered connection on my layout when i build it . I may go for the finer scale Peco TT track when i do this . Also an electric decoupling ramp would not go amiss . Still it's early days yet so we will just have to wait and see what the future holds for this scale . I have also pre ordered The Eastern set . No doubt i will order more TT soon . I hope Hornby give you a quick replacement turnaround time for your loco. 🙂

Hornby have annouced a decoupling Track already. Which I belive is operated by a standard point motor.

Every new scale should have a Jinty in the starting line up ! 😉😀

Without wishing to undermine Hornby, I would recommend Peco's meter gauge (12mm) trackwork. The turnouts are also what they call 'insulfrog' which means that there is no dead section. Any layout using these has to be wired in a certain way - power applied at the 'toe' end and insulated rail joiners fixed at the other end but they are great! Maybe Hornby will take a leaf out of Peco's book!

This is the German coupling that the German TT manufacturers have been using for many years (almost 20 years).
Hornby has been making TT models with the German company Arnold for years, using this coupling too

If your loco is running well, I wouldn't send it back to Hornby! Thanks for uploading.

My set was very poor quality. There was a loose part in the box which had come away from under the buffer beam on the loco. The track sections separated at the slightest movement and the controller was a real pain to get working. The power track was defective and had to be replaced.
In fairness a call to Hornby resulted in one arriving after a few days.
Personally I found the couplings a nightmare. They came out of the pockets at the slightest touch and several fell to bits. I tried to re assemble them but in vain. One of the coaches had an annoying scraping sound from the bogies at one end and try as I might I couldn’t eliminate it.
Overall, poor quality manufacturing and quality control in my experience. I have opted for a return and refund.
