    So many thanks for posting this. I ordered the chip and speaker yesterday from Digitrains, arrived this morning and by 12 noon, my class 08 was tooting away! Magic!

      Oh David, that is really lovely to hear and it certainly bridges the gap. I will look into this again when Hornby release their new smaller power banks as would find this the only model in the TT:120 range in need of one until the j50 comes along, possibly, and if your track and points aren’t in peak order 👍

      That’s what I thought. Don’t try force body back down. When speaker is located right, it will go back in place but, a bit of jiggling may well be needed. Just keep calm if it takes several attempts first time you try. For insulation a cheap roll of capton tape off eBay is far better than insulation tape, which holds in any residual heat and is too thick for the job tbh, if you’re using a bit to cover decoder.

      Ps as some people are very static or may have greasy hands, a pair of those tight fitting surgical gloves 🧤 are something to be recommended if not, always avoid touching the decoders component parts and minimal handling only, at sides. 👍

    That's real nice . The one thing with modelling that I don't like Is the cost and in a lot of cases trying to obtain spares .
    When it comes to soldering small stuff I rest my hand on a block as have slight tremor.
    Just seen the latest news from London. Hope they get under control fast.

    I've just ordered the BR Blue 08 for an upcoming TT:120 build I'll be doing on a new channel and was perplexed as to the unavailability of the 6-pin decoders. This video was very informative and has pushed me towards the This Way Works 8-pin HM7000 install as it's a much cheaper option, even if it does require some high speed sanding. Thanks.

    I’m actually considering going with the Zimo decoders instead of the Hornby ones as they seem to be more versatile and I’m not planning to use Bluetooth anymore as I want to be able to have full automation. That’s why I have bought Itrain and the Rocco, Z21

    Ingenious. Although it just goes to show what good value the Hornby HM7000 decoders are if they are available. The option you used pretty much doubles the cost of the loco (£125 for the decoder and speaker).

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  4 місяці тому +1

      It does, it fits but, cost, that’s the rub. The Zimo sound files from Digitrains do sound good and love the vocal conversations included though it has to be said.

      @modeloco  7 місяців тому +1

      👍 Yes it came soldered on, didn’t expect that but, so glad it was. The sales guy I talked with there was very helpful indeed and they do fit these as a service too if required so having that vital experience which they shared

  • @stevio7777
    @stevio7777 6 місяців тому +1

    I’ve fitted the decoder, programmed it and got the sounds working. I use the Roco Z21 command station in conjunction with iTrain.
    But also use the Z21 app on my iPad to program the loco. when I tried it on my test layout it struggled a bit and when I tapped on the engine sound it cut out and I got a red light on the Z21 denoting a short.
    Now I can’t even reset it because as soon as I place it on the layout or program track it cuts out. Doh!

      Oh dear. I had this kind of reaction when I first fit a Loksound into my first Scotsman. Before doing so I’d followed the then official do’s and don’ts and attempted to run the loco in analogue mode via my elite controller. The blanking plug smoked and when I fit the Loksound decoder it did exactly what you say is happening to yours now. Struggled and then gave an ‘error’ message on my cut out elite, every time I tried to connect it again. I sent the decoder back and it was kindly replaced as decoders can either work or fail. On return I then sent the whole lot back to Hornby. They tested the loco to say it was okay. Have no idea what they found or did but, as the Loksound wasn’t theirs said they wouldn’t touch that and also changed the advice about analogue running. I’m still not sure if it was because of what I uncovered or not. I fit the Loksound and it all ran fine.
      Your situation is different as you’ve added a wired on speaker too and you’re running on a Roco system not an Elite or as with my itrain system a Digitrax system. I trust your other TT:120 locos run with the Roco, yes/no/don’t have others?

      Ps After eliminating the Roco app, you could try removing the sound decoder, speaker, etc and put the original blanking plug back in and test the loco is running with a 9 volt battery across the rails. You don’t have to put the body back. If it’s not the loco needs to go back to be looked at I’d say. If it does run back and forth then that’s at least eliminating that side as well.

      Nice job, I fitted the non sound version of the decoder with a Lais stay alive, superb low speed performance down to scale 1/4mph! I had filled the radiator end with extra weight where you have popped the speaker in. Black Tac is great for securing components, doesn’t get affected by heat like Blue Tac can. 08 is a superb model in TT 😁
