Great reminder of a rail network and stations that has been systematically asset stripped by corporations, not for the value of its service but for the value of its properties.
I remember catching the Northerner from Waiouru to Auckland and back in 86 it was great,Bar was on ,girls hockey team on trip back to Waiouru ,ciggies in open cabin near the end for the workers ,cold double brown big cans and bluebird chips ,great times and cheap travel
Thanks John for showing the section of single track through the swamp area as I now can see how much thy will need to fill with the spoil from the CRL tunnel and hopefully it will happen to help the new H2A service .
Thank you, so good to see the good old Auckland Railway station in its intended function. Should never have been dismantled + sold off!!

What a great video! So many changes and so many memories.
Thank you for this most excellent step back in time! Beach Rd station was an amazing place.
Good to see those suburb auckland stations being used now!! Can't get over the lack of cars on the highway back then!!

What year was this filmed? I have been on the Auckland to Wellington service many a time. Always a great trip.🌿
This was taken in 1992, can't remember what month but was on a Sunday
@@johnkirby8160 thankyou for the information, I thought it might have been earlier 😀
If only money had been put into the railways instead of into motorways….
