Underated performer - all we heard was what was wrong and it became fashionable to bag rail. Unsupported by successive anti rail governments for 15 years at one stage owned by incompetent overseas interests. Rail suffered the same indiiference as housing and look where that has left us. Every other western country fully supports rail - NZ has fostered bloody trucks and cars in the never ending catch up game of providing more and more roads and spending exhorbant amounts off shore on increasing oil costs etc. No brainer but we may now have lost the battle and highlights the incompetence at times of many of our decision makers. Let's hope the Hamilton to Auckland rail service is successful but the initiative my be too late. Great shame.
I remember an NZ Rail ad in the 80s, for a bunch of Scottish people attending a wedding. I saw it on UA-cam a while ago but can't find it again - sound familiar to anyone?
The attitude on railways that should never have left!!! I just hope someones takes over with the same commitment one day before the current business leaders run the railways into the ground!!!
No doubt the best way to move stuff around the country. But like all govt departments, wrecked by incompetent morons & lazy thieving workers. Thats the truth.
Roger Douglas Fay and Richwhite - corperate pirates - thanks a million!
We're putting a great deal on the line
Damn, I miss these days!
Super proud to be a rail kid🙏🙏🙏
my interest is cook strait rail ferrys. Brings a tear in my eye when I saw the much loved Arahura R. I.P old girl .
You and me both! I took Arahura's final sailing
The last add was probably when they turned the company in to a corporation . I miss seeing that new zealand rail logo

I know the advert you're talking about too, I can't find it either! If I do, I'll send the link.

The ferries look in better shape then than they do now
Great although that last add was a bit long
Anyone know what that song is that's playing in the last 10 seconds of the video?
I'd say it's a jingle that was custom made for the doco.
..I couldn't hear anything at all.
Many Governments Have dropped the Ball Especially Roger Who thing a me lol lol lol
Roger Douglas and his "Rogernomics" under the New Public Management (NPM) Reforms in the 1980's.
No doubt the best way to move stuff around the country. But like all govt departments, wrecked by incompetent morons & lazy thieving workers. Thats the truth.
Lol 'Electrification' didnt come to that much
We'll they did show an electric train network in the advert... but it was a scale kids model. 'We're the NZ railways, and we put toys on the line'.
True that, and now it's even less than it was with the announcement of withdrawal of the electric services.
I would've loved to have read that book. It was a fascinating topic when I was a young fella.
And now the rail service is abismal. Over expensive and hardly used
