    I really hate those trips that influencers are taking like Samantha march or Angelica Nyqvist. I do really like them. But these fans or whatever you'd call us have to pay more for a trip to cover the influencers trip and they get paid to go on top of that. It would be cheaper to just go to Greece alone. They're like i wanna meet people and have fun and a community. But then they get paid to go? Angelica was like well I'm taking off work and stuff to go so i need to get paid. Umm don't the other people your new "friends" have to miss work too? My friends don't have to get paid to spend time with me. It really pisses me off lol. They're just doing it for a free trip to a cool place and getting paid on top of it. Gtfoh with that. It's unfortunate bc i really like and trust them

      I dunno man…I just don’t get pissed at all about what other people do to get money. If you can point to the unfairness in this it just means given the same opportunity that had you would take it as well because you recognize the value and benefits inherent in their choices. You also don’t know what they have had to sacrifice to get to this point or what their values are. We all just make assumptions about people and sometimes we can tend to see only worst in them if we feel they have some perceived “unfair”
      advantage when it you really wanted to you could make all those things happen for yourself: the internet is the great equalizer.. If all our financial choices and preferences and short comings were dissected on the internet the way influencers or celebs are FOR SURE..people would take issue with us as well. None of us are perfect but it’s easy to tear others down when we have no skin in the game. No one is coming for us or reading us for filth or calling us on our own bull shit. It’s a great place to be. It would be like being mad at your friend or partner and it’s all bout what you think and why your mad and what you don’t like but they can say NOTHING back to defend themselves or point to your own ineptitudes or hypocrisy. You always win fights in one sided beef. For the record this message isn’t pointed at you specifically please know that. It’s just a whole vibe and conversation that I wish we would be more aware of which is why I pointed it out in this video.. If it’s not interesting to me or exciting me it doesn’t exist. Just like my real life. I get the folks like the tea and it’s fun to get caught up in that but I’m very over that vibe personally.

      @whitneyhedrick i can appreciate transparency in a situation like this. The things the guests or whatever you call them aren't typically made aware of is that they are paying more than they would if they took the trip independently and that the influencers are benefiting from it. I appreciate that Angelica did tell everyone after the trip that she is paid to be there. Don't pretend that's not why you're going I guess is what is annoying to me. Also not a single influencer I've watched info4ms them that they are uncharged to pay for the influencers to go. I'd definitely go on a trip that was paid for and I was being paid to be on, but not at 5he expense of the people already giving me my income in the first place. It's not like a business trip that is for work that your business pays for. Trova trips is a total scam imo and i would personally not endorse something ripping others off from my perspective. That being said ai don't dislike the influencers or distrust their product reviews because of it. I don't think they even realize this perspective on the matter. I still feel how ai feel about it though. I do care how people make money if it's scamming other people out of money. Just like mlms/commercial cults or master resell rights and pyramid schemes. I hope i explained it a little better.

      @@whitneyhedrickI have to heavily disagree by pure logic that someone's ability to use their brain and knowledge to recognise the ways influencers use parasocial relationships to make money and disagreeing MEANS they would act the same way. Recognising and analysing a behaviour and situation is absolutely not identical to wanting to behave the same way. Its very much separate from it. Disagreeing with such behaviour and considering it negative is even much less an indication that you would behave the same way. Your making a very far reaching assumption... Maybe based on yourself or maybe just to make the poster feel bad and guilty about daring to call bullshit like that out? And trying the :you'd do the same so shush? But it's not a truth or fact in the slightest.

    Ugh. As a fellow millennial I also remember when the “Best of” by Allure stamp actually, really meant something. Especially with drugstore brands. I would immediately make those products my HGs - and with good reason, too, because once you tried them you SAW the award-winning performance before your eyes. I relied on metrics like those to make me a better consumer, especially as an adolescent with very limited funds. I do not doubt for a second that a lot of those spreads are now bought out by the highest bidders 😢 I wonder if a lot of the beauty editors/staff had their roles completely changed or altogether eliminated as a result - I remember reading those fun little first-hand editorials about their experiences trying out hundreds of products months in advance in order to hand-pick the best. In this current landscape, do they even do that anymore?

    • @whitneyhedrick
      @whitneyhedrick  2 місяці тому +4

      It’s probably down to the fact that they have to deal with advertisers moving towards influencer marketing instead of just buying ads in print so they may be trying to keep the lights on. But if they just did a better job I think it would help. Like I said they move too slow and have nothing interesting to say anymore IMO

      Would love to see you talk more on pretty privilege actually, i agree with you 1000%.
      Here is my hot take:
      The key word is *pretty* privilege, not “gorgeous” “stunning” “ethereal” privilege. Imo pretty/cute/hot/sex-y is accessible in a way that stunning/beautiful/striking isn’t, and that’s where the two sides of the argument collide. The gorgeous model-esque people say there is a dark side to their beauty and they don’t get treated well - and yeah it’s cause they aren’t pretty, they aren’t benefiting from pretty privilege because they are beautiful. Their beauty is not accessible and warm the way a very pretty or very hot person is and therefore not something they can commodify for themselves. People don’t see a supermodel and think they can be their bffs or they can get something from this person, there is distance and that distance makes the beautiful person lose a lot of pretty privilege benefits.
      At the same time I see so many women who aren’t beautiful, they are more “average” but considered hot or pretty get loads of benefits. They get so much of a boost - free drinks, free entry, easier time making friends, easier time finding a partner, more offers. The hotter or prettier they are, the more this escalates.
      It’s like comparing an angel/goddess (beautiful) to a princess/mermaid (pretty) - the latter has attraction in a personal way and therefore can use it for status. An angel/goddess is revered and complimented but that’s about it, they don’t have social currency the same way.
      And I think that’s where the two sides of the argument fall apart because people aren’t arguing the same thing (because we think stunning = extra pretty, when it’s two different categories).
      Hope that makes sense and isn’t too long!

    One thing I'm sick of is: people being rude! No matter what the topic is, if they like some product or don't, rudeness is, and never will be, acceptable. Honestly, I'm aware that it's the indicator of someone's mental state. My grandma was a neuropsychiatrist and was telling me all my life that rude, angry, aggressive people are unhappy with their lives and/or themselves. Nevertheless, I will never condone it.
    Being behind screens and keyboards just makes it so much worse. It's mind-blowing.
    Even when we disagree with something, there is more than one way of conveying it politely and respectfully.
    Truly, people are so vile w/o a reason. I could write a novel on this topic, so I should 🤐
    Here I go, editing my my comment because I simply can't wait till the end of video🙄😁
    To keep it short, I'll just say that your every thought was perfectly on point. Also, thank you for deserting the idea of "perfume channel" 😂 I'm one of those who can't make a distinction between more than two or three perfumes.
    To summarise, thank you for being a wonderful human being. I think you were one of the first ones I've watched and subscribed to. And I have been on YT from the beginnings. So not that long... 😅

    Hey Whitney... Regarding Mac fix+ that person believes that because of a video Wayne Goss made about setting sprays and he did mention Fix+, I don't remember what he said but I do remember he said that UD All Nighter (and the parent company's bridal spray) was basically the only true fixing spray on the market, whereas Fix+ doesn't really "fix" makeup in the same way and nothing compares to UD. He basically called most setting sprays bar that one a lie, that they don't actually set to the degree they have you believe. Check out that video cuz I'm not 100% but that's absolutely the source of that sentiment.
    Also what blush and lip combo are you wearing? Your makeup is so refined here, I love it.

    • @whitneyhedrick
      @whitneyhedrick  2 місяці тому +2

      Maybe but either way I didn’t say in the video it makes you makeup last I said it made it look better which it does. It does what that tik tok tend one standing in a steamy shower after you do your make “does”. Takes away the powdery look and makes it look dewy and fresh. But they didn’t say “hey just so you know it doesn’t make your makeup last” they said I was lying. That’s my issues. It’s not that people can’t disagreee or have different perspectives..it’s the jumping to “you’re lying!” That I can’t deal with.
      This whole look is in a video I recently posted called “full face of makeup I can’t get enough of” cause I filmed them on the same day. Unfortunately off the top of my head I can remember what I had on cause both of them were filmed about a month ago :)

    • @JadeAdams-z2u
      @JadeAdams-z2u 2 місяці тому +1

      @@whitneyhedrick thanks for letting me know, I must go back and check that video out!
      And yeah it's wild to accuse someone of lying when that's just not the case. That person watched the Wayne Goss video and just did not think for themselves at all, instead parroted information they probably didn't even understand.
      The purpose of setting sprays is multi-facted and some are better at actually setting than others, certainly UD all nighter is top tier but it's not like other setting sprays can't compare in terms of hold, not is that their only purpose anyway... It's definitely not lying to say fix+ is good lmao it's cemented in the market for a reason. I love using setting spray but I don't care a wink for hold, I care about a pleasurable misting experience, scent, some hydration and taking away the powderiness of my makeup, melding it together. That's what fix+ is great at, and it does provide hold too, just not as extreme as all nighter.
      Some people be crazy man. They just can't think for themselves, about the nuances.

    I feel like Morphe gets a bad rap because a handful of influencers who were heavily involved with the brand have been involved in toxic drama and even more serious scandals. NappyHeadedJojoba used to say, “Never trust anyone with a Morphe code”. Perhaps they could have been a bit more careful to vet the influencers they worked with. But it isn’t a reflection of the quality of their products.

    I really enjoyed this video! It's refreshing and much needed. However, I want to highlight that disabled people like myself don't have the same choices when it comes to self-care and beauty routines. Saying we're not putting in enough effort or aren't attractive because we can't do certain tasks is problematic and exclusionary. Many of us physically can't do those "simple" things, and beauty has not always been accessible to us. The beauty community still has a long way to go in being truly inclusive. I do not want to get your back up; I know that you weren't thinking about disabled people and that's the problem with most people in the community is that we don't think about 'them' until we are one of them.
    We need to move away from unrealistic beauty standards and recognize that beauty isn't one-size-fits-all. It's not about hating on anyone for being pretty-it's about ensuring everyone feels represented. If you want to learn more about ableism in beauty, feel free to ask! I have a channel (Serenity with Lawna) where I'll be talking more about how my relationship with makeup, the beauty community and self-care changed once I became disabled. I think you'd enjoy it so stay psted!

    I enjoy Morphe brushes because they perform really well!
    Also, in my opinion, Allure has been taking money for places on the best of beauty for a couple of years, at least! Some of the things last year were not good at all.

    Si que el tema del " pretty privilige" es interesante, me quedo con tus palabras de que tod@s podemos acceder a ese pretty privilegio, no conseguir todo pero si conseguir algo, lo que no concuerdo es sobre la divinidad femenina o lo masculino que solo pertenece a ese género pero si estoy de acuerdo que una mujer exitosa más allá de la belleza ya sea en finanzas o política se le juzga como una mujer fría cuando no es así, es una mujer inteligente que no solo disfruta de la belleza disfruta de hacer y desarrollarse en otros ámbitos, desgraciadamente en esta sociedad nos meten en cajas de a lo femenino solo le corresponde la belleza lo sutil a lo masculino solo le corresponde la fuerza la practicidad ¿ Por qué no tomar características de ambos sentidos y así vivir tu vida como quieras sin necesidad de meter cada cosa en cajas y solo meter todo en una sola caja ?

    I thought I was the only one who doesn’t agree with the Allure Best of Beauty awards. Most of the time I don’t agree with their product picks, objectively it could be because my preferences are different than those making the list. Also, I fell for the KKW contour stick hype 🥴🤣. I liked the convenience of the stick and drawing it on but it was not worth the top spot by any stretch.

    Pretty privilege is only an issue for people who have low self esteem. When you find things you like about yourself, outside of just looks, you don’t feel intimidated by others for just existing because you know you also have value.

      Hmm.. nope. Imagine you work hard to climb corporate ladder only to know your promotion is snatched by pretty coworker who is less capable than you by work result statistic, how is it? Thats the definition of pretty privilege, nothing to do with your self esteem

      I work in lawfirm in my country, I see pretty legal associates are taken meeting to places by the lawfirm partner while the real horsepower of the work are ugly legal associates who work behind the scene and only meet clients through zoom meetings. Pretty privilege are given by people, not you feeling low self esteem, pretty privilege can be manifested like: in your job you are a show ponny, people think you are stupid but without you the business is not complete so people obsessed about your presence.

      @@ambycarr1695 pretty privilege is not the same with high or low self esteem. Nothing to do with how high your self esteem bcs privilege is byproduct of how people perceive you, not how you perceive yourself.

      @@ScentsibleJournal How would you EVER know thats why they got it? We can guess and assume all day....but we can never actually KNOW for a fact. So why choose to paint that situation as "well it was unfair" instead of "welp that wasnt for me" and you also dont know what that women had to go through to get to "pretty" most people arent born that way and they invest and work at it just like anything else.
