Using the UVMap node didn't work for me, It kept baking the texture on the original UV coordinates. What I did was once the secondary UV was created, I set up the old UV map as Active Render and clicked on the new UV in the properties panel, then baked it. It seems to choose the highlighted UV Map as the output for me. Im using 3.4.1

I am doing the same process to an (.PMX) 3D model, so the nodes look almost exactly the same, but they don't work as properly. I used the Cats plug-in to convert my .PMX model to .FBX... would be able to help me with a solution for this?

Man, I was having some serious questioning about what how I was going to my models and textures from now on, because on Unity it isn't healthy to have many materials on one object, but the way I make my models and textures uses images fully covering the UV maps, so I couldn't bake them. This helped me so much you have no idea.

Female avatar with underwear as separate objects. I would like to bake underwear texture onto body texture and remove underwear mesh altogether. Body has multiple materials (UDIM). The problem is, that I may not modify body UV maps. So underwear has to be projected onto existing body UV. Is that possible without too much effort? Maybe you know a plugin which can help. Thank you in advance.

Is it possible to bake a texture WITHOUT unwrrapping? let's say i have a mesh and i splitted it all by 'loose parts' (example a column from a building) and that building has one huge 4k/8k UV Layout/texture, not in every game engines it will look pretty, so i need to seperate parts, so can blender bake like the column to a new image and set the scale to to given size of the new image? (again use the UV of mesh and not unwrap as it have to keep the UV)

Maybe a little off topic, but I had real problems with the Node Wrangler preview not working, or intermittendly working. The correct connection would be made to Viewer/Material output from the previewed node (and the Use Nodes box was checked). Turned out it was due to multiple slots filled with materials. Deleting all the slots, so it is only Slot 1 that is filled fixed it. I have watched multiple of your videos, and they have all helped greatly, but I do not remember you ever mentioning this.

Figured out why I was getting a black texture. At the very end, though the video doesn't show this, so it was throwing me off (I didn't make a texture in Blender; I added a pre-made image texture as a material so maybe this is why I had to do things differently). I had to make sure my new UV layout was selected before hitting bake. In the video, Ryan has the old UV layout selected before baking. I'm using Blender 3.3, if that matters.

I think your tutorials are really good. I don't seem to be able to solve my problem with them though. I coloured a model which I split into multiple objects, that already have a UV map, using base colour. If I try to bake to another UV, I keep the colour but lose the detail from the original UV map. Is it even possible to bake the colours but keep the black and white detail that existed on the original UV? Note, in render mode the details are also lost.

Hey, awesome that you made a tutorial about this. im NOT good at blender, so i really appreciate your video.
I have only one comment on your UVmap creation (the only this i know about that prosses i can comment on haha!)
If you are using this in Unreal Engine later, then you can NOT have spaces in the file names. It will not be accepted by Unreal Eninge since it's not supporting spaces in names :)
So it's better to use something like this: UVMap_baked (_) instead of space

  • @sunset-city

This works great for Diffuse Maps!
It could also work on transferring normal maps by using diffuse map bake settings. 👍 BUT-
    Warning:
This only works in Blender as you can redirect it with the UV Map node like the video,
but the OLD UV map layout camera in ▽ Data Properties has to be ON.
The color of the image may also be lighter than the original so you'll need to adjust that...
If you plan to transfer your model to another program (like Unity),
this may serve as a problem. Idk if it's possible to do the same thing.
Searched everywhere for weeks on a solution; but came up with NO easy solve.
Normal maps are just too different from Diffuse maps.
So re-doing normal map bakes for your NEW UV map layout is unavoidable sadly. :(
Make sure to keep your HIGH poly versions until the end of your project everyone!
