"Over here, dear." Vinny has not done anything to hide or smooth out the rough edges of his personality, which really makes his delivery here perfect. He's being gentle while still getting his point across. The jury has enough experience with him by this point to recognize that. This scene isn't about proving she needs glasses to see, it's about establishing that she's underestimating how much she needs them. If he'd been rougher or more judgemental, she likely wouldn't have gone along with his requests. Or even if she did, the jury might think he's bullying her. It's the little details in this movie, man!
In this classic scene from the movie, " My Cousin Vinny", Vinny Gambini says that the distance from where he is standing at the back of the courtroom is 50 feet - but when he says that the tape on the tape measure is clearly slack which means that the actual distance is less than 50 feet - at least a foot less!
What's often overlooked in this movie is the chemistry between the late Fred Gwynn and Joe Pesci. 2 completely different actors from completely different eras but they play off of each other like they've worked together for years.

She had a 1 in 5 chance of getting it right. That's not bad odds. What if she got lucky? I know it wouldn't be as fun in the movie, but he couldn't get an eye chart or something?
That’s assuming she guessed randomly. The thing is, Mrs. Riley knew that Vinny already raised two fingers: when he asked “how many fingers am I holding up now?”, she may have assumed he was raising a different number of fingers, because it would be too obvious if he raised the same number twice.
@@NoxaClimaxX That would be true the second time. But it's not like Vinny knew that the judge was going to give it away the first time. So, the first time it really was 1 in 5. This would've been the right thing to do and possibly commonplace in a town like that back then.
Anyone notice the continuity error in this scene from the great movie, "My Cousin Vinny"? When Gambini says, " Now Mrs. Reilly and ONLY Mrs. Reilly.....", the tape measure is taut, but a second later when he asks her, "How many fingers am I holding up now"?, the tape measure is completely slack!😂
Rudy Giuliani memorized this clip and used it on all of his court appearance.
"Now, Mrs. Reilly...
aNd OnLy MrS. rEiLlY!"
Fred Gwynne was a national treasure 😂
Nice
"Over here, dear."
Vinny has not done anything to hide or smooth out the rough edges of his personality, which really makes his delivery here perfect.
Rudy Giuliani "How many fingers do I got up? And she says three. Oh, she was too far away to see it was only two."
Wrong on so many levels.
@Ty YT His hair dyed that day.
That pencil is as long as his arm!
Thank you Rudy Giuliani
The guy who his hand in his pants and whose hair dye started dripping, that Rudy?
In this classic scene from the movie, " My Cousin Vinny", Vinny Gambini says that the distance from where he is standing at the back of the courtroom is 50 feet - but when he says that the tape on the tape measure is clearly slack which means that the actual distance is less than 50 feet - at least a foot less!
Ahhhhhh so this is where Rudy Giuliani got his law degree. It all makes sense now.
Except, the movie is fairly accurate:

Rudy is just an idiot.
What's often overlooked in this movie is the chemistry between the late Fred Gwynn and Joe Pesci. 2 completely different actors from completely different eras but they play off of each other like they've worked together for years.
Rudy sent me here
"Over here, dear." 🤣
Any thicker, they'd be wearable binoculars for normal people!
More like minoculars.
Her next lens prescription will be a dog!
The Guiliani Defense! Strangely, its applicable -- I hope to hear the phrase "yoots" when this goes before the Supreme Court!
Won't even get close to it, but wishful thinking helps people get through their delusions i suppose.
@@Gan596 If Guilliani brings up the Magic Grits Argument, it's over.
@@boedye I would literally die of laughter. Can you imagine?
@@Gan596 At this point, anything is possible -- Im leaving nothing to chance anymore! Hell, lets make the Legally Blonde argument: "The Fitness Wife didnt kill her husband because the daughter didnt actually get a perm, and the pool boy was gay" argument!
She is so sweet and beautiful
I love this movie this is funny
I love Joe Peshi
Crazy to think that Ralph was 31 in this

Tape measurer goes from slack to tight to slack. No wonder why she got it wrong, it’s a moving target
Crazy Rudy Giuliani brought me here.
He is a Funny Guy
And only Misses Riley
She had a 1 in 5 chance of getting it right. That's not bad odds. What if she got lucky? I know it wouldn't be as fun in the movie, but he couldn't get an eye chart or something?
You're an idiot.
@@redchili6927 Says the idiot who felt the need to hurl an insult over the most benign of comments.
You might even argue 1 in 4. 5 fingers might be too easy to see, so he probably wouldn't do that. But again, it is just a movie. Some unrealistic things that happen in movies you can't live with even though it's a movie. Other unrealistic things you can live with. I would say this scene falls into that latter category.
Where can I hire this lawyer
So as your eyes have gotten more and more outta WHACK. 🤣
