Rev, GREAT to see you out enjoying yourself on the trail with your pack on your back!! You’re making your heart attack episode seem like a minor “speed bump” on the road of life! Truly inspiring!
Thanks. The main purpose of my trip was to “test” my body (especially my heart) to see how it would react to stress and elevation gain. I’ve gotta be very patient and take my recovery regimen slowly. I’ve got several long distant backpacking trips scheduled for next year, barring any additional “speed bumps.”
I day hiked to Alamere Falls with my daughters a few years ago and I am so excited to have a campsite at Coast camp for a couple of nights this spring. It will be my first solo backpacking trip. 😬
Can't wait to follow your footsteps, minus the disappointment finding two access trails to the Coast Camp were closed. Bummer, yet with every setback there's lessons learned as @tex duke pointed out the possibility to park by the Hostel or Limantour Beach parking lot for a short hike to the Coast Camp from the other side (Muddy Hollow or Laguna Trailhead lots). Nothing like having some sort of maps for a backup plan (hiking map, AllTrails, Gaia, OsmAnd, etc.) The Gaia map overlays for the Coast Camp are very nice and the OsmAnd and AllTrails maps even shows the location of each tent site on the spurs. The quality of the Map Adventures paper map is very nice while the National Geographic topo map is quite colorful illustrations. When on the trails and need to research a backup, do you use any of these or others? Happy trails, Michael
Hey there Hiking Rev. Just subbed to your channel to support a fellow UA-cam vlogger and hiker out there. I am heading to CA in March and I am going to see if I can fit Point Reyes in. It stinks when the trail you are on has a detour or closes. Sorry, your trip got cut short. Looking forward to following along on your channel and watching more of your videos. ~RVA Hiker Girl~
Thank you for the sub, RVA Hiker Girl! You are very kind. I’ve got some long distance hikes planned for this year and am looking forward to sharing them on UA-cam. I had some hikes planned for last year but were postponed on account of a heart attack. I’m fine now but I hope it doesn’t happen again this year. If you get a chance, check out my Pacific Crest Trail Thru hike. I think you’ll enjoy it. Again…thanks for the sub!
@@TheHikingRev Oh no! Glad you are doing better. Sending continued healthy vibes your way. I will def check out your PCT vids. I am a AT section hiker myself if you're interested in any of those vids. Glad I came across your channel and could support you. #hikerssupportinghikers. ~RVA~
Wonderful to see you hiking and enjoying yourself. Each step is a bonus, after your heart attack could have ended your hiking permanently rather than temporarily. Enjoy the time out there with ‘Marmalade’ etc. Stay safe and do pace yourself.
Thanks. Yes, I’m very blessed to have recovered from a very unfortunate situation. Now, I’ve got to get back in “hiking shape.” I’m definitely going to pace myself.
Rev, Sorry you got a bum steer and missed Coast Camp. Leaving the Bear Valley parking lot and turning left or west, drive two miles to the Limantour Beach road turn left again or south...then seven miles over the ridge. Coast Camp can be accessed from the Hostel turnout one mile before road's end at Limantour Beach. We live close by and hike the park and beaches every week. Just found your channel and enjoying your videos.
I’m sorry you got skunked on that last night. It sure is a beautiful area! Did you get a chance to walk out to Tomales Point? It’s longer than it seems. The last time my wife and I went there, we came back in the dark, tooth by jowl with the elk herd during rutting season - an interesting walk!
I have hiked in Pt. Reyes many times in my early backpacking career. A friend of mine came up from San Diego to hike with me there and the trail was closed due to a recent fire.
Whoop! Whoop! Marmalade didn’t have to carry your pack or you! 😉 Looks like you did great out there! Enjoyed the narrative and videography very much! Keep training/testing your body and you’ll be back doing big miles before you know it!
Thanks Nancy. I faked like I was having a heart attack but Mike wasn’t buying it! 😂 I’m looking to do more long distance Thruhikes in the future…if my health holds up.
Great to see you getting out there Rev! Loving your video techniques. I started a UA-cam channel to capture my outdoor adventures and PCT hikes. Enjoy your content and gives me some good ideas too 😀
We parked our cars at the Bear Valley Visitor’s Center/Trailhead and hiked to and camped at Glen Camp Tuesday and Wednesday night. We left Glen Camp and hiked along the coast toward Coast Camp where we found the trail there to be closed. We then retraced our steps and hiked toward Mt Wittenberg where we found that the trail from Mt Wittenberg to Coast Camp was closed also. Since it was so late in the day, we decided to call it and go home early. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to go again.
Enjoyed watching this! Nice music and filming ! Wonderful to have a hiking buddy- I’ll check out Marmalade’s channel. Did you see any wildlife? Bet it was nice not having to carry as much on your back as you did on the PCT. Big disappointment that they closed the trail/ fires? How did it feel to be back on the trail? How was your stamina? You sure had nice weather! Until next time......🥾

Makes me happy to ee you hiking again!!! .
Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome Jason. It’s great to be back out in the wilderness.
Looks nice. Glad you and marmalade hike together. Great pair. Enjoy his videos too
Yep…Mike had fun babysitting the “old dude.”
Thanks Mi.
Rev, looking good! Wonderful scenery. Enjoy! All the best. God Bless.
Thanks Robin.
Thanks Robin.
Point Reyes, nice hike. Thank you for sharing. You have a wonderful day. Take care and ATB.

Thank you. Yes, I do use different maps like all trails, Gaia, and Far Out.

Great video. I truly have a deep respect and appreciation for fellow backpackers. I saw they have bear boxes at camp. Are bears found in that region?
No, but other “human food grabbing” mini-bears are. Mice, deer, squirrels, raccoon, etc. 😁

Thank you for the video
You’re welcome. I hope you enjoyed it. 😁❤️👍
Did you get a new Duplex under warranty? Thanks Rev
I got it repaired.

Thanks. I’m glad you enjoy my videos.
Just curious. Why didn't you drive down to the parking lot by coast camp?
Beach fires were legal there years ago. I wonder if they still are.

Thanks. I had a great time Rebecca. Felt great and had plenty of stamina.
Thanks Rebecca. I feel great…some times. 😂. I throughly enjoyed being outdoors.
Nice place and video. Bummer you had to cut your trip short..
Thanks Barbara. Yep. I’ll have to go back again.
Glad to see you have a hiking partner!
Yep. Marmalade was my babysitter. 😂
Stay healthy buddy!
Thanks Larry. I’ll try.
Great job Rev! Great job acting as well! :) only thing I’d change next time is show more Marmalade! He’s great!!! Lol
Thanks Mike. That Marmalade is a very humble guy! 😁
@@TheHikingRev You guys crack me up . . .
🤪
Nicely done. Next time you see Marmalade put a friendly elbow in his ribs and tell him your video has better production value.
😂😁😂
Thanks. I will.
