Hi Jayda! Thank you for clarifying the stitch markers purpose. I have never used them before and still don't. I just don't see the need, to use one if you all ready know where your first row starts. I don't like having to move it every time either. I felt like it they where more trouble than they where worth. "Thank you" for sharing your talent with, us!
Thank you Jada for explaining on how to use the stitch markers because they really do help me a lot... I love your style of teaching.. I catch on very quickly .. 🐱🌷😊🌹
This helped me immensely. I have been having some issue with my increasing where I am ending up with a sort of a "hunchback" on one side of my projects. So basically my mini storage cups/ containers end up lopsided and misshapen so that I have had to end up frogging so many of my pieces. With my current one I have just continued crocheting in a spiral, eliminating slip stitch/chain 1 on my new rounds. I'm still pretty new at this so that's when I realized I have so much yet to learn!
thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I am just beginning amigurumi on a more consistent basis and my "creations" look NOTHING Like the patterns. This was helpful. :-)
Hi Jayda thank you very much for the video clarification. I have done the Dino and shall try a bigger size using a larger needle.I am wondering how to post a pic of the same to you.
Hi Jayashree! I'm so glad that you found this helpful :) If you have a picture to post, post it on your google+ page and leave me a message on one of these pages and I'll go see it! I think that's the easiest way to do it. I post lots of pictures of things on my google+ page. You can view my page if you click on the little g+ on my channel art on the Jayda InStitches home page.
Hi, I am just starting to dabble in crochet and i am giving your narwhal pattern a try. A question i have is that you say to add a few stitches at the end of row 7 to be in line with the stitch marker and then for row 8 you stitch 2 together and then do one single crochet and repeat and there should be 18 stitches at the end of that row, how does that work out with the additional stitches added to row 7?? Sorry if my rambling doesn't make sense xD
+Sparklepire Hi There! When you 'add a few stitches at the end of row 7 to even up your stitches with the marker' you're not adding any stitches to your stitch count because you're working in the round. All you're doing is making sure that you start row 8 (with the decreases) RIGHT where the first row join happened back at the end of row 1. I have found that this makes for a much more even looking piece of work :)
+Jayda InStitches I see, that makes sense. For some reason i was thinking that it was going to add stitches to what was already there. I noticed that the tail part of the narwhal called for double crochets and i was wondering if you had a tutorial for that, since I found it hard to correctly copy what you did in this video. Thanks for the reply and clearing up my confusion ^_^
I'm still not sure...if I'm doing it right does each row end on the stich marker? I have a very hard time following patterns because I will use a stich marker and do the amt of crochet the pattern calls for but don't end up on my stich marker. I'm thinking you should land on the marker of the previous row or there is a mistake. can't tell u how many times I've ripped put my stitches because Im ahead or behind my marker.
Hi Diana, when working in the round, each successive row of increase will land you 1 more stitch behind the stitch marker. For example, if you leave your marker at the beginning, and you have 5 increase rows, you will be 5 stitches behind the stitch marker when you finish your 5th increase row :) Then, in order to "even up" you would just crochet the next 5 sts normally with no increasing. This would not change your stitch count. So you're actually doing everything right :)
Thank you! I have been tearing my stitches and hair out for nothing! This was very helpful because this has been holding up. I hear you tubes that say " land on the marker" and it sounds as if you really should land there if you're doing it correctly. They don't really show it either so I was never sure. Thanks again.
If you are on a decreasing row is the stitch market slightly aligned one stitch ahead, meaning if you go straight across from the first stitch there shouldn't be a single crochet alight?
dec30magq31 If you increase up a few rows and then immediately decrease down the same number of rows, by the time you're finished you should be roughly in line with the stitch marker. However, I usually use this method when making pieces that require several rows of straight single crochet in the middle (no increasing or decreasing) and I like to finish those 'straight' rows in line with the stitch marker before I begin decreasing. If I decrease down to nothing (closing off a hole for example) the stitch marker no longer is important. But if I'm decreasing a little and then leaving an open bottom (like an ear or an arm piece) then I like to make sure my last row is evened up with the stitch marker. You do this by just crocheting a few straight stitches to be in line with the marker and then you fasten off. I tend to explain this as I go in most of my amigurumi videos. I hope that helped :)
Thank you for this. I have decided to take the plunge and crochet something besides a scarf or blanket. My son and his wife are going to have a baby in August and I was looking around for something to make for the baby. I think I may try an animal of some kind. Can you recommend something that is fairly easy? I just found this video from a google search. I am hoping you have some tutorials on youtube I can follow.

Hi Lucy, we've got several videos on stars! We have a star applique: ua-cam.com/video/fpRWo3brvU4/v-deo.html a Granny Star: ua-cam.com/video/zS5fSGxOMAc/v-deo.html and even a Star Pillow: ua-cam.com/video/oqODu07OFdU/v-deo.html
Counting is the most boring and annoyingly, the most important part of crochet! But better to count and save yourself having to frog work later (speaking from a LOT of experience in that department 🤣!)
