Hey Carol! I actually have this whole tutorial written online with Gifs and images that might help! clubcrochet.com/crochet-stripes-perfectly-amigurumi/
You can slow the video down. On a phone or tablet: tap the 3 dots up in the right hand corner, then tap "playback speed", then select 0.25x (quarter speed) 0.5x (half speed) or 0.75 (three-quarters speed). On a laptop or PC you can change it by clicking on the settings (cog wheel) icon which sits at the bottom right hand side. Of course, the sound track will be slowed down too but the video is perfectly clear. Hope this is helpful.
@@jgomes7195 I am so grateful you posted this reply. I have been watching UA-cam videos for years and had NO clue that you could change the playback speed. Thank you so much!!

Yes me too! I just made 2 bees one for me and one for my boyfriend and the stripes arent entirely even I and so going to be thankful for this video (I just started it now )
@@littlecrisp8164 Hi!! im 12 now and i still love chrocheting! i dont have much yarn atm because it’s pretty rare to find good quality yarn in Jamaica. I’ll try my best to get some more ASAP! Also.. thanks for checking up on me kind stranger!💕
Thank you for this!! I learned that when changing colors, if you hold one color to the back of the work every time and the other color to the front every time, it doesn’t twist like that! It helped me a lot.
Just like another commenter, I TOO was crocheting a chubby bee as a baby shower gift and I wish I saw this video because it came out looking weird on its belly where the seam was. Then after I gifted the bee, the pre-existing toddler older brother found the bee and claimed it as his own. 🤣 He sleeps with it and everything, its adorable. So NOW I am crocheting a SECOND, slightly smaller bee for the baby. I'm done with all of the color changes already, but due to my laziness I kind of discovered the no yarn change method. But it still looks a little janky because I've never before heard of half color changes. I work in a school and the bee is VERY POPULAR. So it seems as if I have quite a few requests for more bees 😂 I'm so happy to have found this video because it will improve all of my future bees! THANKS! Btw I made an account on crochet pals but I still cant download the pdf.
I started making amigurumi last December after a friend sent me a pinterest link of a little Eeyore she wanted for Christmas 😂 This is a nifty little trick! This was a "issue" that I didn't know had a solution to it! 👏
I’ve been trying to do half colour change in the round whilst increasing and it’s quite tricky, the twist I’ve learnt is vital. It will take more practice but I love the straight line finish! Perfect for the zebra I’m making
Sorry to reply to a two year old comment but what's the difference between twisting and not twisting the yarn while doing this? I find it difficult to hold so i've been doing without for a little bit but I feel there must be a reason lol
Thank you very much. I think I'll be using your first technique from now on, I don't mind the tiny inconsistency, it's still heaps better than the usual method, and your second technique makes me itch, I loathe yarn ends.
This is the only well done youtube video on how to do color changes the right ways thank you!! And thanks for the bee pattern!! While I was watching this I literally thought to myself that I was gonna look up cute bee patterns to practice this technique with and now I don't have to!! ❤️❤️❤️

Hahaha I'm Louie! I actually have another channel called Louie's Loops where I make weird stuff with crocheting but no tutorials here if you wanna see more stuff that I make: ua-cam.com/users/louiesloops
Hi! I understand the tutorials in full, and in practice, when you do it I end up with a large stripe. When doing the first round (with only the upper top being green and letting the bellow "half-of-the"sc purple = complete sc) you are adding an "half"-sc in purple and the top in green - that results in the bottom always being higher. I don't know if you can understand what I'm saying. When doing the comparison..imagine you have 3 rows of one color, and 3 rows of another.... making this method in changing color, you will be adding another row to the first color, since changing will give a little of the first color (bottom part of the sc) and then a little bit of the last color.
I understand what you said and I noticed that too. I still think it's worth doing the half color change because the cut is so much neater. I just accepted to have rows of one of the color a bit "thicker"
i got frustrated with the no cut version because i kept getting additional stitches, so i decided to just go with the half-colour changes for now. turns out that you can strategically weave in the leftover tail of the second colour to smooth out the gap between the rows. it looks super neat :)

The difference is incredible with the half color change thank you so much! Is it an official technique taught "in books" I never read or is it you who came up with it? In any case the explanations are crystal clear even if it remains hard anyway haha
This is brilliant! I so dislike when my stripes get crooked. Thank you so very much. Will need to practice but that is one of the things I love about crochet, never stop learning and trying new things. Keeps it very interesting 😎
This popped up at an eerily perfect time. I was crocheting my very first stripe on an amigurumi yesterday and I was like “shoot I did something wrong. Why is the stripe lopsided?” And then I wake up and UA-cam was like “boy do I have a video for you”
Thank you so much for sharing this technique!! A game changer for me as I've been looking everywhere for the best jogless colour changing technique! Just one question... this techniques means you get an extra half row of the "old" colour and a half a row less of the "new" colour right??... so do you count the first half row (i.e. the half colour change) as your first row of the new colour? Thanks again!! :)
Thank you so much for sharing! The instruction given on this video is very clear and easy to follow, even for me. Lol. Very professional and well done. Bravo! Thumbs up and subscribed.
Thank tou so much! I love this technique and the effect is very neat, but I have a question.. I’m very new to crochet and amigurumi so I’m sure that I’m not understanding something right, and I’d be very glad if you could help me. Thank you…
Hi, thank you for this video, it's really helpful! I do have a question though. I'm sorry if it's been asked before! I'm currently working on a project that requires a colour change at every row to create stripes. But when I used your no cut join technique, I ended up with wider stripes which made the project misshapen (I did an extra row after the half and half row, with the new colour). Is there a way to avoid this please?
Thank you!!! I really appreciate the no cut technique. I am hoping to make a character from an anime, danganronpa. monokuma, a teddy bear which is half white and white black, split right in the middle!
Oh yah!! I know that character!! You totally can, you just might need to make your piece sideways / more of an oval pill shape. This is awesome! I can't wait to see!!
I have a pattern that changes colour half way ( rounds 1-15 blue, 16-30 yellow). Noticed when I finished my last round of blue and then did the half colour change for round 16 that I had too much blue. So if you’re trying to make as close to exact halves as you can, do the half colour change on the last round of your first colour ( for me that would be 15, not 16)
This is amazing! Would either of these techniques work if my pattern has color changes that just go for one row before switching back to the original color?
hi im new to crochet! when you do the no cut join, does the slip stitch and chain count as 2 separate stitches from the normal sc count? for instance if I had 18 stitches would it be a slipstitch, chain, and then 16 stitches? or would the 18 stitches start after the color change?
Excellent tutorial, thank you! I do have a question though. When creating the row with the half color change, would this row count as the last row of the first color?
Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I'm new to crochet and I am trying to use your no-cut join technique. I'm wondering how to count the rounds. If I end on 5 make the color change, does it count as my 6th round in a pattern, or does the next full 2nd color round count as the 6th round? Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
If I use the last method when working in continues rounds, when should I change my colour? Say I'm working in rounds of 24 single crochets. Once I've completed my 23rd stitch, should I then pull my yarn through and make the join and count my fake stitch as the 24th stitch or should I finish my round of 24 and then make the fake stitch and count it as my first stitch of the next round? And when doing which ever way is the correct way, where should I put my stitch marker when changing rounds?
It replaces 1st stitch of the same round you just finished. So make your 24th stitch then do invisible join to replace 1st stitch. Join new color into that fake stitch, ch 1 and make 1st stitch of next round.
I love it but am very slow in absorbing the steps, is there a way you can show the sequencing in slow motion?

Amanda Stovell I’m looking in the comments for the exact same question!
It replaces 1st stitch of the same round you just finished. So make your 24th stitch then do invisible join to replace 1st stitch. Join new color into that fake stitch, ch 1 and make 1st stitch of next round.
Thank you! This is beautifully explained.
