  • It's a long video. I'm sorry about that.
I picked up a Sheldon KS Metal Lathe and while playing with it the very old leather belt broke... twice.
I talk about the lathe and the tools it came with. I take a look at the second lathe I picked up with it, a Little Giant wood lathe.
Both machines use a leather flat belt. I mix up a leather conditioner using lard and cod liver oil to treat the belts. Then I spend way too much time trying to cut and fit the metal lacing on the new belt.
Again, I'm sorry it's such a long video.

Small world, I was born in Greenfield Mass. and had many relatives that worked At the Greenfield Tap And Die,for a couple of generations!!!
They have been gone for a couple of decades now! Done in by Cheap Chinese knock offs!!! Incidentally GTD was a major employer in the area for a long time, During WW2 were a big factor in the war effort, having at one time over 1500 employees and three plants.
More info can be had at a historical website “ Museum of our industrial heritage,”
    Check it out.👍

That's great. Thanks for sharing. A lot of things were given up for cheap Chinese knock offs. I think that's the right link I shared. I'll check them out. And, I hope others check it out too.

Probably McMaster Carr. They are still available from the better industrial supply houses.

Probably McMaster Carr. Grainger and Zoro may also carry them.
