  • Tomato Rice Recipe (Malaysian style)
    Today I have decided to fix my eyes on the Malaysian tomato rice, a dish that has to be tasted to be believed.
    Malaysian tomato rice is prepared with a plethora of spices and fresh ingredients transform the ordinary ingredients to a rice dish heavily scented with spices. It is different from the tomato rice from southern India, cooked with a different combination of spices.
    This rice dish is evolved from the original Indian version and has become the staple of Malay cuisine. It is the result of the cultural mash-up of Asian and Western cuisines, due to the influence of the European countries who settled in this country in the past centuries and the migrants of the Indian community.
    Tomato rice is a drool-worthy, gluttonous gem on par with the biryani rice. Furthermore, it has a universal appeal that is liked by everyone, and kids friendly.
    Fit for any banquet tables for festive occasion and ceremonies. I bet you would like to give it a try.
    Let’s kicks thing off with the video with the step by step instruction.

    😃Excellent tomato rice recipe , Mr Kwan. Its always my favourite dish. Goes well w simple saambar/dhall curry w veg or any non veg curries too. Good on its own itself. Thanks a ton for sharing. By the way I tried your melting moments recipe. Just a small modification for my 4yrs old granddaughter. Had to add little cocoa as she loves chocolate. It was a hot item and the whole family finished the jar of cookies.Many many thanks for all your beautiful recipes👍

      Yes tomato rice is great to serve with dhal. Really happy that you like it. As for the Melting Moments, mine is only guideline, by all means improvise and make it better. Regards.

    Thanks for sharing the yummmmy recipe. There is no pandan leaves where I live. Is there anything that I can replace it?

    • @TasteofAsianFood
      @TasteofAsianFood  5 років тому +3

      I do understand and in that case you can skip it. I know there are pandan artificial flavoring available but that's awful. Omit it will not make a huge difference with so many other ingredients cooked with the rice.

    I think your tomato rice looks delicious I made some tomato rice years ago when I had a lot of ripe tomatos to use up and it was lovely I want to make some more of this forgotten dish ( in my house ) Im going to follow your recipe although I don't know what the leaf is that you added ? Is there an alternative or How does this leaf taste ? Thank you

    • @TasteofAsianFood
      @TasteofAsianFood  2 роки тому

      That is pandan leaf (screwpine leaf). Unfortunately, there is no substitute, but try getting the extract from the store. You can download the recipe from my food blog. www.tasteasianfood.com/tomato-rice-recipe/

    • @laxmilaxmi9579
      @laxmilaxmi9579 2 роки тому

      The leaf adds aroma for the rice…

  • @megsarna7429
    @megsarna7429 5 років тому +1

    what can be substituted for pandan leaf? Bay Leaf or mint leaves?

    • @TasteofAsianFood
      @TasteofAsianFood  5 років тому

      Bay leave and mint leaves cannot be used to substitute pandan (screwpine) leaves. They have a very different flavour. You can either 1) omit the pandan leaves in the recipe or 2) use pandan extract if you can get it. Hope your tomato rice turns out great.

    • @songwaikit8718
      @songwaikit8718 5 років тому

      Actually there was a study regarding that. If u take rice which turns to sugar with high fibre food like vegetables. The fibre actually slows down the absorption or sugar. That is why eating rice and fruits doesn't make one diabetic unlike sweets and desserts
