The difference in the money was 1024, which is exactly two to the power of ten, so I suspect that it was caused by a bit flip in memory. This can happen randomly at any time due to cosmic background radiation, so it is entirely possible that you were robbed by the universe itself
@@handtomouth4690 as silly as it sounds, there's constant radiation. It's nothing harmful honestly really, just another type of energy. Similar to how an EMP can negate all electric energy, it'd make sense that an energy impulse on a different wavelength might just swap a signal. In the end, all data consist of 0s and 1s in which the 0 stands for the absence of energy and 1 for energy so a good ray of radiation might just alter that input and change the number. Im no physician myself but that's how id guess and explain it
Whatever was the memory address that stored the amount of pokos he had for that save file might have been flipped from a 1 to a 0 by some random thing happening out of his control. All it takes is literally a single bit to change something like that, but it rarely ever happens to computers
21:18 1024 is 2^10 and computers store numbers in powers of two. what i suppose happened is that the 1 on the tenth place in charge of storing the pokos you got turned into a 0 and just like that it counts 1024 less this is just a randomly ocurricg glich
I found this channel recently and it's always nice to see Pikmin 2 getting more love! Binged this over the last couple days, props to you, I'd never have the patience or confidence to do a full run of this mod haha.
I'm guessing it's because you collected more monsters than the game can store in memory? And then it only paid out the first 256 you collected, or perhaps the last 256? Seems like the poko value that's displayed inside the cave is just a placeholder, not your actual saved value. When you exit the cave via geyser, it recalculates your new total, rather than using the value displayed inside the cave.
That seems unlikely to me, why track what enemies were collected when you can just store the value of them? Though the cosmic radiation theory is also very unlikely. I don't see a likely situation here.
@@realHeff believe it or not, i might actually have a plausible answer thanks to some code i played with in the colossal caverns mod. what i think happened is you managed to get more than 256 enemies in a single visit, and that might have confused the game to loop back to 0 enemies collected. it's my theory because i'm one of those weirdos that literally went through the cave to see just how many pokos you can actually get. i think i went through 70+ floors collecting every enemy, about 14k pokos or so, but by leaving (doesn't even need a fountain as you can see the value before it drops to 0) i noticed that only 8k or so was kept. it's not my fault i swear, but i think as long as you leave the cave, all money is permanently banked, proof being that you can play off the debt in vanilla by going to emergence cave over and over within 1 or 2 days, going well past 256. idk if grassdigger went through stuff like this in his videos, but they're a great place for technical knowledge and one video explains that the days can loop around back to 1. i assume that almost everything can loop back too
How do you gain pikmin in sublevel 11? Every time you reach level 12 with more than you left level 10 with? Oh, i thought they were only flowers to convert in the main game. Not very kaizo if it doesnt even do that.
That moment when your revenue stream gets taxed by the game because it's not passive income.

Seriously?

I'm pretty sure there was a mario 64 glitch that no one was ever able to replicate because this is what caused it.
If he had a Poko for every time he says "quite frankly," he'd have recovered the whole debt in the first couple of play sessions.
And then I would’ve lost 1024 “quite franklys” in this video alone 😢
@@realHeffI see what you did there
It satisfies an itch the original never fully scratched to see the Pikmim carrying a huge line of enemies like an army of singing ants
Cavern of Chaos sublevel 8: *Bonjour*
This was probably one of the most painful parts of this playthrough. Aside from Cavern Of Chaos and Dream Den

Am I the only one who finds watching the Pikmin really satisfying, specifically when they're carrying a bunch of stuff at a time
While talking about hunting, he forgets the fact that he has had many worker fatalities. The Pikmin should start a union for unjust labor.

i absolutely love this series and it actually got me into playing pikmin 2 again!
the game was just allocating tax and unpaid workers wages for you
I hope it went to my 401k tbh

That 2 floor dungeon might be for grinding bosses for pokos or something
After this the ecosystem has no chance of recovering
All the numbers remind me of the scorned maestro fight, when you collect all the scornets
not the profit motive 😰😰
not THE WORKING CLASS BEING EXPLOITED 😱😱
you hate to see it
I am sorry to have to tell you this, but since those are unpaid workers capitalism isn’t what most would describe it as…
Supreme Leader Olimar 👀
WOOOOO, I LOVE THE ECONOMY! :D
Why did ur game steal 1024 pokos from meee

This is a grinding cave, so the dev probably felt merciful and added some Queen Candypop Buds.
