i like how you say her credentials, then add "and she's my wife"
Alec Risser SHE DOES ALL OF THESE THINGS.... and you can’t have her
"With Great Cuteness, Comes Great Responsibility". Funny Hank
Hank: and she is also my wife.
Katherine: Yes, I am also his wife.
Hank: Hi, thank you for doing this.
Only just a tiny little bit awkward
He wanted to touch that animal so bad. Those last 5 seconds in his head had a voice saying, "Awww! It's SO cute! Let's cuddle it." Meanwhile another voice says, "Don't touch! Don't touch! It might be illegal!"
Ivan Sexe Looks like possibly a part of why he touched his glasses/face towards the end. Looked like he wanted to move in and touch it and either did that to redirect his hand, or just to keep it 'busy.
@@otakunfranks8145 yeah, 6:27 might've been a example of that.
Don't you mean 'cat'herine
Hank. Your wife is awesome. Respect.
Hank, you love your wife and it is obvious!
Best Hank quote: "I would be fluffy if I was there." Then picture fat Hank.
*Hairy
And then, we never saw her again...
I was crossing my fingers for her to talk about the Sand Cats, those little shits are the most intense and majestic looking wild cats I've ever seen.
What? No stumping Hank?
"With great cuteness, comes great responsability."
That would make a best-selling t-shirt.
The tufts of fur on a caracals' ears also deliver low frequency vibrations down to their ears.
wow hank has a very attractive wife
I like Scishow talk show... cause they bring AMINALS!
You two are SO married!
Loved some of the quotes today...
"I would be fluffy if I lived there..."
"With great cuteness comes great responsibility."
Didn't we used to be cat-food.
Years later, they have a podcast called “Delete This,” (and a son!!) and I cannot imagine that she willingly managed a Twitter (though it makes sense that it was for SciShow not a personal Twitter for public consumption). Love the Greens!
Oh and she is my wife lol
The caracal has ear tufts to direct sound waves into it's ears. They also function similarly to whiskers in that they allow the animal to feel things overhead without making any noise.
awww they're sooo sweeet
My new favorite SciSchow quote: "I would be fluffy if I lived there[Russia]"
is it just me or is this the most awkward video ever in scishow?
Yeah. Their quirkiness is cute not awkward
Seeing Hank and Katherine interact just makes me feel happy.
Every time Jessie brings on an Australian animal, I go, 'Oh, one of those', and then chuckle when she's describing them like an exotic animal. I know they are to Americans, but it's still funny.
Maddie Briggs Relatable XD
To be fair, if endemic to Australia, they are exotic to most of the world. From human population, land mass, percentage of bio mass, etc.
Katherine looks like how I picture Emily Dickinson.
Hi, Mrs. Green.
Is it just me or does the caracal look like Pikachu?
Beautiful wife, and awesome show, also i freaking love when you show animals on scishow
Katherine is so beautiful.
I love how proud Hank looks when he knows her favourite animal :D
great video, it was really interesting.
also they're so cute together and I was like GET MARRIED, THEYRE ALREADY MARRIED AAAAAAAAHHHHHH so adorable
"Your favorite animal in the world is our cat Cameo"
WHAT ABOUT LEMON?! Good parents do not play favorites, Hank & Katherine
"Yeah, I mean some of them probably would've eaten us... pretty hardcore, so..."
Haha, kitties... man-eating kitties!
I wanted them to give Hank some bubble wrap to measure his cuteness aggression, because he was clearly itching to pet the baby.
"Yes, I am also your wife.."
"Thank you for.. doing this.." lol
I love how she is just like "yes yes I am his wife" so awkwardly wonderful :P
4:12 no glove
4:15 glove
4:25 no glove
4:29 glove and so on
4:35 no glove
"Deci" actually means, "one-tenth" in Latin.
"Centi" is "one-hundredth."
This is an invitation to see an artist theory on the physics of light & time.
Based on just two postulates:
1. The quantum wave particle function Ψ or probability function represents the forward passage of time itself with the future unfolding photon by photon.
2. Is that Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle ∆×∆p×≥h/4π that is formed by the w-function is the same uncertainty we have with any future event within our own ref-frame that we can interact with turning the possible into the actual!
The black background is still strange, the interactions between Hank and Katherine are awkward, probably because they're married, the animal handler is talking, but OFF CAMERA the entire time. It's so strange not to show her face when she's talking. And her audio quality is terrible. Give the animal handler the a clip mic.
I love your show, Hank, but the audio and video quality of this episode is really low compared to your others.
Hey guys love the show but could you add a couple more lights or change to a lighter color background. Everyone's heads blends into the background. Lights behind the subjects would make them pop out.
OMG that thing is like shrunken Kangaroo.
"she's also my wife" :D
Thank you sci show, for not only supplying loads of awesome science facts, but connecting them within every episode, which help me learn about them better, and to that I salute you!
*helps
Funny. He didn't look like Tom Selleck.
Yeah, the audio and video quality in this episode is really awful compared to the others.
4:19 the case of the disappearing glove! :O
"I would be fluffy if I lived [in Russia]."
Or, "Dude, you are so cute sometimes!" :D
Ya'know, this is really freaky. My name is also Katherine, and my favorite animal is the cat. And I really want a pet cat... O_o
Can we get a couple of small rim lights on the set? I can hardly ever see where the people end and the background begins. Also, maybe a fill light on the table? This set is super dark, and I have a hard time seeing the coolness.
So that's what you earthlings in the US call "show and tell"?
"I am.. also his wife." "Thank you for doing this." must be weird to not only be married but also act married in front of a camera, or try to act natural that you're married on camera while also married off camera which is completely natural but somehow it's just freaking weird cuz other people are watching and then they're gonna make stupid comments about how adorably awkward it all is and how it must be weird. this is like meta to the nth power i think.
Thank you both for doing this.
There is no non-circumstantial evidence asserting intelligence in any way affect any other portion of one's personality, however, deficits in social behaviors lead to people commonly becoming interested in things that are not socially popular. It is the personality that leads someone to intentional development ones measurable IQ. There is some evidence, tho, that people with high IQ's experience more social stress/anxiety, but this does not necessarily have any noticeable effect on personality.
Picture of fox, is the wrong kind of fox.. not the same one that was introduced to Australia.
C'mon Hank, it's Valentine's day and, the nerd I am - I'm not on a date but watching science videos on the Internet. And all those smart, hot women you show me are all married!
Showing off your woman isn't nice - and all that cute fluffy animals you brought are not making up for that. Well, maybe a little.
Hank and Katherine should totally get married.
Oh wait.
My name is Catherine Greene.
Wrong spelling. :D
You are now entering...
There is a video on the Vlogbrothers channel of Katherine getting her Master of Science degree. There are no more specifics though.
The lights could scare the animals, or otherwise negatively impact them (they talked about how the lights were overheating the fox on the first episode).
Besides, I could see the scorpion just fine, maybe your screen brightness just needs adjusting?
Not sure who is the cutest in this video :) Catherine and Hank are definitely contestants :D
6:11 cuteness overload
i LOVE sand cats! :D
wouldnt it be great, if you could just express your feelings and excitement without having to worry wether you appear manly enough to some random stranger?
I love the fact that Hank held that AWWWWWWW for like ten hours when he saw the Sand Cat. I totally feel you Hank, I fangirl over cats all the time.
I just noticed this... doesn't that last animal looks like...a mini mini mini Tyrannosaurus rex...with fur and cuteness instead of claws and deadly teeth?
I can understand that, though I could also argue that is why context is so important to understanding the meaning of what is being said and context should be considered before any other clue-- for a number of languages, not just English.
And, yes, language is certainly designed for that very purpose-- to clearly and concisely convey ideas and our understanding of the world around us with mutually understood definitions. But the only language that remains so constant in its definition is math--
Fair enough. It just seems a little petty to me arguing over something like the usage of a word.
As for the usage of the word "decimate," here, I understand the origins of the word and the Latin root meaning of, "deci," but I still fail to see how it is wrong for it to also formulate a second, less technical definition. This occurs a lot in language.
A good dictionary would list and define a word with all its definitions and origins, yes. I'm not even going to debate in favor of dictionary . com
Any linguist would tell you this, but it should also be common sense. Did it ever occur to you that, with each passing generation, language grows and evolves? And this is as it should be. We are human and ever-changing with the world around us; language needs to change to keep up with us. That said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with how the word "decimate" is used in this context.
Why is this even a topic of discussion?
I'm sorry to hear that you have had bad experiences with cats. I have never had a problem with any cat I have met, except for a couple of feral kittens that I tried to tame. Personally, I've never heard of a cat attacking a person for no reason. Most cats attack to either protect someone they love or because the person attacked failed to pay attention to a cat's warnings. But, I do hope that you will reconsider and give cats a chance.
Believe me when I say that, yes, my cats love to be petted and fed by me whenever I get home from work. But, right now, they are lying on my bed with me and sleeping. My Dixie will talk to me whenever I have to leave and my Pixie will crawl into my lap or onto my chest and lick my neck for as long as I will let her. Both of them also love for me to play with them. I am glad that you will consider what I have said. Hopefully, you will find that cats are very loving creatures.
I do every time I get home from work. My two cats almost always run up to me when I get home. Plus, one of my cats says goodbye to me when I leave for work. However, there are several videos on UA-cam that show cats reacting to their owners/slaves (LOL) returning home. Also, my two rarely expose their claws or teeth, especially at me. As for hearsay, you should spend a few minutes with someone's cat, or kitten, and play with it. You may receive a mild scratch but you'll have a lot of fun.
Ah, an ailurophobe. Personally, I have arachnophobia. I don't want nothing to do with no spiders or scorpions. The quickest way to make me give up a sin I'm not even considering committing is to threaten me with a spider or scorpion. However, that said, I am fascinated by them.
BTW, what do you mean when you say cats are sharp? Are you referring to their claws? Yes, it is unfortunate that their claws are so sharp, but that is because their hunting techniques are different.
Like the idea of a talk show. Just a few suggestions, please. This episodes audio was really low. So was another talk episodes but, this one was very hard to hear. It was very dark and some shadows were distracting. Maybe this low lighting was for the benefit of the animals benefit? Hank obviously was trying to keep calm but, he needs to relax. It's OK to be exited. That is what we expect. Loved seeing his wife. He obviously is nuts about her. Thank you for making science interesting.
I will agree that takes strength. I disagree that that is the only way to express strength. Strength does not require adversity, and I would even argue that failing to overcome adversity can still show strength with how you handle it afterwards. As to Hank, he does seem to really enjoy it, but saying it's easy? I don't know, that sounds pretty insulting to me, but I guess I'm not privy to how much of his time, thought and financial stability is tied into it. My initial guess would be lots.
I should have pointed out I meant PhD, not MD, that was my mistake. To your next point you made a judgement, it doesn't have to be legislation for you to be telling someone how they should or shouldn't live. I also disagree with your assessment of him and of how he should act. Sickened was a manner of expression to help place emphasis on my statement, not an actual physical or emotional sickening. Perhaps it wasn't a good choice of words but still that was also a stupid point for you to fight.
I have read more than just one of your comments. You are definitely a pushy person, at least when typing into youtube. And the 'real men act like men' attitude is sickening and unnecessary in a society switching from 'thug must hit thing' to one of technology and ideas. Who are you to decide what a man can and can't be? And yes, I do know doctors... they have to actually prove knowledge in a subject to get their degree. Do YOU know any doctors?
I feel the need to point out that I saw a video with Hank once, explaining words that don't mean what you think they do, and it was once if the main reasons I subscribed. The honest attempt at ironing out misunderstandings and spreading good knowledge was awesome. When I now hear someone say that an animal was pretty decimated, I'm just like; what is this I don't even. I know these are not totally scripted episodes, but please.
Katherine must have Toxoplasma gondii. I REALLY hope you guys keep your cat indoors. I hope youve heard the most recent study on the impact of domestic cats in the US "1.4 billion to as many as 3.7 billion birds...The study also says that from 6.9 billion to as many as 20.7 billion mammals... killed by cats annually in the contiguous 48 states." im glad she brought in something so negatively effected by cats. Furry sharks, instinctual killing machines. anyone with a cat, please keep it indoors.
It's not sexist to tell someone that their wife is pretty, nor stupid. I fully understand the want to not judge women by their appearance, and I agree that stupid sexist comments are everywhere, however if you put a man and his wife in a video of course there will be comments regarding the lesser known spouse and the visible interaction between the couple. Also, they don't "have" to remake this video. They could elaborate in another , however you don't have the right to demand a remake.
Hank you have to remake this video, I want to know more about cats, that was clearly not solid information enough, and way too short. Felidae and even feliformia are amazing branches and the fact that they've been around for so long makes me want to see a good study about them :D
Also please people ignore the stupid sexist comments including the ones saying that she's pretty. I'd like to watch videos featuring women without having people constantly talking about their sex or appearance... thanks
I don't want to sound like an ass. But you should start writing scientific names correctly. You know: The genus is written the first letter in capital the rest in lowercase, the species all in lowercase and both should be in either in italic or underlined (without a continuous line connecting both words). I'm saying it just because that's how it should be written and it's always good to teach the correct way to other people. Even if you like to write everything in capitals.
Hey guys in the comments, I love how you are defending Katherine's preference for not wearing make up, but I see a lot of you arguing that girls who use make-up just aren't confident.
In most cases, this isn't true. Make up is just FUN, and if a girl has a preference for wearing make-up, it doesn't mean she's not confident in how she looks without it. Can't we just enjoy dressing up?
It's not about hating, it's just that there has to be a comment at all about their appearance or femininity. This video and the information has absolutely nothing to do with whether they are pretty or not, wear makeup or not, or their clothes. They are giving info just the same as Hank or Michael does, and what they look like doesn't effect the content given. I feel disheartened about the objectification going on in the Nerdfighter community, and wish Hank or John would make a video on it.
The one thing i really dont like about the talk show, is in talk shows you interview people who are knowledgable about the topic... I always get the feeling in the talk show that the guest is just reading off a wiki page, and doesn't know what they are talking about and then Hank responds however he likes....
I think they should either talk about a topic they are an expert on already... or pick guests that are experts on what you want to talk about...
While the premise of this show is good i have a feeling that you either don't have subjects to talk about or people to talk about them with, the best episode was the first one with Emily which had both of those things but then you had your editor or producer talking about how he heard about some dudes doing something about self healing skin and now you brought your wife and she talks about cats. I don't have anything with either of them but this show could be so much more with qualified guests.
Here in Britain, the Scottish wildcat (Felis sylvestris) is on the verge of extinction.
Experts say 2013 will be their most critical year, where we will see whether or not recent conservation efforts have been be successful. Sadly, though, most conservationists in this area project failure for each of the various attempts and expect to see a complete extinction of the species by the end of the year.
Since 2006! Have you never watched any of Hank's other channels? He has many, and she's in lots of stuff.
This isn't spam. I think it's an ignorant opinion, but scishow viewers should embrace the right for other people to have divergent opinions.
yeah, but try and try continously, maybe someday you can find a girl that actually likes to do something similar to learning, like constructive critques,or studying, but don't except to get along with her,open-minded people hardly gets even their first kiss before adulthood(18 years if i got the right name of the thing).
The vast majority of cats love their humans. There are causes for aggressiveness (which is rare), but it can be treated with positive behavioral methods in almost all cases. I'm a huge fan of both cats and dogs (okay, animals in general), and they're a positive part of my life that I wouldn't ever want to do without.
1:05 Oh god, that gave me a flashback. When I was in elementary school, we did a project on a certain animal. One of my classmates got a cougar, and to do research she just punched it in on google... I think several of my classmates got traumatized for life...
(I went to a Catholic school too, so that didn't help the matter...)
You, my friend, are obviously NOT a cat lover. So, let me explain something to you. Given a chance, ALL animals will run away from someone they don't trust, especially cats. I reach out to pet my cats, and any domestic cat I see. I have NEVER been mauled by any of them. The ones that didn't want me to touch them, simply ran away and I didn't chase after them.
i just realized how beautiful Katherine actually is. i mean i always found her pretty when i saw her in a vlogbrothers video or on hankschannel but here... i don't know here she was extrasuperwowzy beautiful! This was a great Scy Show talk i loved the episode! I hipe Katherine will be in more episodes! oh and i want a pet Quicklie
This episode was full of cuteness! Also I love how respectful they are of the animals. Hank doesn't try to cuddle them or handle them in anyway which would be a natural instinct for myself, but this shows great respect towards the animals. After all, the animals, despite being captive, are still wild and should be treated as such. Good Job SciShow :D
I think we need another dose of IDTTMWYTIM, but this time with sexism. Might as well toss racism into there, while in the discriminatory category.
It's not that I'm making fun of you, it is that this has been over 10 times in a row that I have seen sexism be misused, along with racism but on a different count that is much larger.
While I have nothing against Animal Wonders (as opposed to most zoos), I really don't see the point of bringing wild animals onto the show. We would probably learn more from seeing them in a more natural environment than we do seeing them sitting in front of you looking uncomfortable. Overall these talk shows are much less informational than your other content.
I know Katherine from Hank's gaming channel, and trust me, you just need more of her personality. She's hilarious.
But yes, people are hating on them. Specifically I saw comments for Emily telling her that if she wanted more people to watch the videos she should try and improve her appearance, look sexier.
they seem like they get off talking about atoms and the ethics of parlament oh yeah explain that new bill (OHHHH YEAH!!!) MORE MORE PLAEASE....... idk wheres the charm and why don't they sit closer together.... just seems boring and he's kinda a asphole. this host makes me crazy but i like the program so idk what to do.
Sometimes I wonder if Hank is trying really hard not to pet the cute little animals. I sure as hell wouldn't be able to keep my hands off
