You have to travel west of mainland Ansalon to find Northern Ergoth. It features a massive mountain range which runs northwest to southeast dividing the island in half, but there are five distinct realms herein. To the west is what remains of the mighty empire of Ergoth. It features grassy plains which run up against the mountains. To the north is the lands of Ogaral, with its poor drainage and muddy fields and bogs. It’s believed to be the home to many tribes of roll. The far north is the realm of the sea barbarians, known as Ackalites, who have long ago deforested the territory. The east is the Kender nation of Hylo, covered in lush forests featuring a wide variety of food and medicinal plants. These are some of the oldest forests in all of Ansalon. To the south of the island you will find hilly deserts with scrub and sage. It is the realm of goblins who live a surprisingly peaceful existence here . This area is avoided by humans and Kender primarily, even though there are old human settlements and ruins buried beneath its sands.
Northern Ergoth has relatively mild summers lasting from Corij to Reorxmont and its winter season runs from Phoenix to Chistlemont. It’s the currents which run from the Southern Sirrion Sea which cool the island throughout the summer months and ultimately moderate the worst winter weather. The sea itself brings in heavy vernal thundershowers and seasonally thick snowfall. The only exception is the southern area of the island which is protected largely from the ocean's breezes, hence the land being green and lush.
In this War of the Lance era, Northern Ergoth is ruled by Emperor Mercadior, a position that is a holdover from Ergoth’s dynastic glory days before the third dragon war. He oversees Ergoth’s senate which governs the empire. The history of the decline of the empire deserves focus unto itself, but between the Solamnic Revolt, the slow decline of Ergoth and Rise of Istar, then the Cataclysm, it's a wonder there is any empire to rule over. The emperor encourages salvage and search missions where the majority of the old empire's relics now dwell, deep beneath the waves of the surrounding sea. The emperor is pursuing a treaty with Qualinesti to out flank Southern Ergoth and eventually rebuild itself to its former glory. It has an estimated population of two hundred and fifteen thousand residents, with approximately ninety percent being human, ten percent being goblins, and a smattering of other races. Life on this island is very traditional where you are born into your station and women have few if any rights.
Northern Ergoth specializes in trading copper, brass, steel tools, relics, and cut stones. They have open trade with Solamnia, Sancrist and Hylo. They receive food from Solamnia, precious metals from Sancrist, wood carvings from Hylo and fruits and leather from Qualinesti.
Some of its major settlements include its capital Gwynned with nearly seventeen thousand residents. It features gladiatorial arenas, opera houses, imperial universities and is a center for artistic and academic pursuits. Its grand palace overlooks the city of shining marble. It is truly a den of iniquity as well, where any service or pleasure can be found for the right price. Lancton city is the next largest with just over seven thousand residents. It is fortified, standing at the only fordable section of the Dermount River...

This is where I base most of my material. Thank you for doing this; I need some people to watch this to prep them for anything I have running in the area. Thank you. Your channel tends to have more legitimacy than mine so I don't have to argue with them- 'adam researched it its good, now roll..' You find younger audience just getting into DL are critical so best to start them off with the right info.

    Well done!
    Thanks for this video!
Im making a campaign for the Kingdom of Solamnia, and one thing the Knights of the Crown focused on AC was helping folks become sailors because all of a sudden they had ocen front property.
One thing the Knights did was protect the citizens from Northern Erogth scouting ships who might do a quick raid.
    Especially, the Goblins.
I'll let you know when the campaign is ready. Its going to take place near Kalaman.
    Have a great Spring.

I also had the complete misconception of Northern Ergoth as a Solamnic Knight stronghold but this great vid explained that it's main populace is a remnant of the Ergothian Empire and they overthrew the Knights, which is much more interesting.

Hylo Citadel the Kender are often described in manner as the dutch/Portuguese were in Japan. They're 'old country' Kender culture stemming from pre cataclysm Goodlund who were marooned when the citadel crashed. And the Ergoth Kenders along with the Island Kenders keep the place hopping.

They're in the middle of Northern Ergoth where the human and half elf population are darker skinned. Theros family was from Ergoth. The Hylo Kender have shorter hair* but some are fairer skinned; unlike Goodlund Kender which vary. (All of this came from 2e material) I think of Hylo Kender as little German or dutch who speak with an accent in contrast with the 'natives' of the island but they are still Ergothian in flavor.

The Knights came from this land.
I guess they went west and east to to from own nation.
      Sancrest is very important.
AC, the Knight of Solamnia could just take ship and skip the land route to get Sancrist. Much quicker, but this may have caused the two cultures to drift apart, especially for Humans who live such short life's. This might also explain why there are so many goblins in the south. The Knights of the Sword would drop the hammer on that.

Great stuff! So many good gameplay ideas in Northern Ergoth. For example, a character could have to travel to Hylo's ancient forests to get a certain plant needed as a spell component or medicinal herb for a special spell as Hylo seems to be like the Rainforest. 👍

      Agreed.
And most of the old Hylo is covered by the sea.
So, you could have the players try and salvage something underwater.

@@travisdonaldstanley6420 that would be cool. I'm picturing Waterworld when Kevin Costner has to swim to the bottom of the sea and sunken cities 👍

I can not wait for you to do the Mortal age version of these. Oh I would also love it if you did the Metalic Dragons of the Fifth Age. I know you already did the Dragonlord Splender but I mean the other ones. I called them the Metallic Protectors there's Sunrise the Gold Dragon who is the Guardian of the Silver Dragon Mountain and later Dragon Mage with Ulin Majere. Then there's Mirror a silver dragon the Guardian of the Citadel of Light who became blind and tagged along with Razor a Blue Dragon to Figure out who Mina was during the War of the Souls. Then there's Crucible a bronze dragon who was the Mayor/Guardian of Sanction then later Love interest for Linsha Majere. Finally Clang a copper dragon who was the Guardian of the Tower of High Sorcery at Wayreth then later the Last Bastion. I think it would complete your dragon overlords and dragonlords series. I would call it the Metallic Protectors or Dragon Minor Lords.

Personally I was overjoyed hearing about Sikket'hul. It is the proof that things in Dragonlance are never so black qnd White as people like the Kingpriest would have us thinking, and a culture is as "civilized" as circumstances allow It.
