You know, I've been watching this for sixty years and never fully articulated this problem. I always glossed over it by vaguely wondering if there was some sort of naturally occurring stop inside.
They tried doing this on MythBusters. Didn't work. Even with commercially made gun powder. Powder laying loose at the bottom of a tube will not generate sufficient force.
And there is Scotty behind them watching and hearing all of this as the chief engineer of the ship. He can tell us about the process of dilithium crystals releasing energy to the warp drive. But can't come to the realization of what the substances gathered by Kirk are for. Unless he is choosing not to speak which I doubt.
Spock was much more aggressive in the earlier episodes. He was perfectly willing to murder Gary Mitchell, but then a short time later he refused to kill the Horta. And look at the way he's salivating at the prospect of killing the Gorn ...
@@johnsledge3942ridiculous retcon trash. That shit is not canon. This episode is the first contact the Federation had with the Gorn. Don’t read into it shit that’s not there.
"Look around you… can you fashion some sort of rudimentary lathe?"
Such and underrated line.
I always find it humorous that Kirk keeps filling up the bamboo tube but it’s hollow at both ends!!

“I grow weary of the chayssssssss!” 😂
He just happens to find all the ingredients for gunpowder close at hand ...
“Oh, look. A perfectly shaped bamboo pipe. How convenient!”
And some rope from a hardware store happened to be there.
It was deliberate. The environment was set up to assist combatants

Why would you expect a 24th century engineer to know how to make gunpowder?
@@absolutelynothingtoseehere I expect him to be familiar with what is some of the most basic of chemistry like Spock.
It's absurd to expect that any 24th century person would know how to make gun powder.
Fascinating and freedom to really nice and freedom get it now.

Given his experiences with them in Strange New Worlds, his reaction kinda makes sense now!
How are those two equivalent? The Horta was an innocent being defending her young. Gary Mitchell was a delusional, murderous, psychopath.

I tried that. Didn't work. Maybe because I used salt instead of salt peter
Panzerfaust
How come there are no underarm sweat stains?
He's wearing 24th-century deodorant.
Movie sets are air conditioned. Plus the actors sit in their chairs drinking coffee for 20 to 30 minutes between each very short take.
