This is one of the most helpful, well thought out, and useful videos I’ve ever seen! Thank you for taking your time to explain and help others by sharing your story. I was strongly debating taking a growth year after my bachelors and paying off my bachelors and saving money. I’m feeling good about doing so after hearing your story! 🌸
I didn't hate Chemistry! 😊 However, I think it hated meeee! 😠 It was those darned stoichiometry/balancing equations! Chem and O-Chem are the bane of many pre-Med students!😅 We DEFINTELY need more pre-PA advisors in schools (and pre-Med).👋🏾👨🏽⚕️
Pre-PA (and new subscriber) here! 🤩🤩This was such a thorough video, and I really appreciate all of your great tips! I also love how you called it a “growth year” rather than a gap year. I’m currently a sophomore college student in GA, and I’m thinking about taking a growth year. I would love to hear more about your experience and how to know if it’s a good idea for you. Thanks!
Hey Meagan! Thanks for watching :) I highly recommend taking that year off if you can and get some experience. I got to meet and work with two PAs who I still keep in touch with, and really got to see what their roles were and it just solidified my decision to be a PA. However if you've been working on your hours early (freshman year, highschool etc) and you have seen PAs in their role and you're 100% sure PA is for you, go ahead and apply and start PA school. I think the growth year is dependent on everyone's own life/schedule and I had plenty of classmates who took a growth year and others who didn't. I hope this helps :)
@@Audreythepa YES! This was very helpful! I kind of just started on my pre-PA track, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can about the profession :) thank you!!
Thank you for this video Audrey! You are doing my dream job right now and I really appreciate you being honest about the pros and cons of your experience in getting there.
Hi Audrey! I'm in my junior year of college right now and I'm concerned about how I'll get patient care hours in. I'm planning to take a growth year after graduating but most of the common ways I've heard of (MA, CNA, etc.) take about 2 years to get certified for so I'd love to hear your thoughts and advice on what to do 😰 On another note, thanks for uploading such detailed content and taking the time to reply to the comments!!
Hey Tanya! You have so much time to get patient care hours done. I would try first look up any volunteer opportunities near you (non-profit clinics, American Red Cross) and another option is just cold calling offices to see if they’re hiring MAs, drop off your resume! Many offices are open to training pre-PA students because they know you guys are motivated and work hard. Hope this helps 💛
I love the video!! When you found out chemistry wasn't for you, I had the exact same thoughts. What did you do during the school year while taking your prereqs? I dropped football and have a little more time on my hands. I wanted to figure out what can I do while having this extra time on the path to becoming a PA.
Oh my God I am exactly like you I hated chemistry as well especially organic chemistry. Do you think I can make it into PA School? Do they require chemistry and organic chemistry to get in and is it part of the curriculum once you do get in?
But I already have two Cs from my first year of college 😕 and I’m taking fundamentals anatomy & physiology which is like for pre nursing nursing I guess cause I thought I wanted to do nursing ... so pa school won’t accept that and I’m doing it for nothing ?😕 I feel like I won’t be able to get in I mean I got 66 and 63% on my first two anatomy exams and now it’s getting crazier
thank you so much for making this video!🥰 i’m currently in nursing school realizing that nursing might not be right for me and i know i want to further my education past my bachelors & found that PA school might be an option! definitely interested in dermatology (i thought about being a dermatologist in highschool but didn’t think i had what it took) & a dermatologist PA seems like an amazing choice !💗
There’s so many different roles on healthcare but I’m excited you’re considering being a PA! I love it and especially dermatology :) let me know how I can help yasmine 💛
I'm at one of those points too in my life where I like healthcare but I don't know what I want to do. I'm a high school senior right now and what got me interested in healthcare is the Anatomy and Physiology class I'm taking right now. I'm a bit unsure about the field because although I would love to connect with people and the patients, I'm socially awkward and afraid that my presence would be weird or that my bedside manner would be bad. Do you have any advice about this? Sorry that this was so long. 😅
Hey Tony! Your feelings are so valid and I didn't even know there was a profession called physician assistant until my sophomore year in college, so you have PLENTY of time :) I am more of an introvert (so even doing youtube is hard for me) and it does take a lot for me to communicate and talk to patients all day, but it is something I work on everyday. No one is perfect at building great bedside manner and I struggled throughout PA school to get better at this, but it does get better. If you want to go into healthcare being a PA is great and I love it. Hope this helps!
@@Audreythepa This definitely gives me a lot of hope in healthcare. In fact, at the moment I'm figuring this out, and at the moment I want to be a PA. Thanks so much! :)
Did you feel that you major hindered the ease of you getting into PA school? I know that you majored in dietetics, and I am planning to go down a similar path as you, but I am still unsure about my nutrition major for myself.
Hey Audrey, I think I’m a little confused about the CASPA application cycles. I’m a junior considering applying for the upcoming cycle that opens in April but I was looking to get into PA school after graduating either summer 2022 or Fall 2022 and if not taking a gap year. What are the exact times I should apply? Does it all depend on the program or should I apply this cycle for summer 2022 and then next cycle April 2022 for fall 2022? Hope this makes sense lol
This video is so detailed!!! Love your experience. ♥️♥️ I’m a freshman in college rn and I want to get my step in asap as MA. Did they train you around junior year? I’m afraid that I’m just a freshman-sophomore so they wont get me trained. Or should I take the MA certification?
Hey Emma! I just called offices the summer after my freshman year to intern/work for free for their office as a medical assistant and you’ll be surprised how many offices will take you! (I should’ve asked to be paid but I loved the experience) try to get in a derm office most derm offices are open to actually train the right candidate :)
@@Audreythepa I asked many clinics to shadow but they said due to Covid, they don’t accept it. Btw do you mind if I ask if it’s your clinic located in Georgia?
I have watched hundreds of PA videos and this one is by far the most helpful and informational. Thank you so much for your time in making this video!

how many hours do you work per week?
Did you graduate with a bachelors with nursing and then went into PA?
3.7 isn’t that bad
3.7 is extremely good, definitely put you on the target for a first year acceptance.
Don’t you need a bachelor’s degree before applying to PA school?
