    As we say in my country: use the right tool for the right job. A dual cpu (not this one actually) setup with plenty of cores/threads are aimed for multi-tasking, a lot of containers, virtual machines and so on, not for playing games. Greetings from Brazil!

      should try this with the 2699. From what I've seen with these xeons, the base clocks don't really matter much. What matters is their boost clock speeds. the 2699 can boost to 3.6 megahertz with 18 cores/36 threads. It's what I personally use. Can't imagine two of them working together.

    I'm running a zx du99d4 with dual 2699-v3 18-core cpus, 128gb 2133 ddr4 and a 6700xt.
    Modded Rebar support into the bios, removed a microcode and used the 2011-v3 all core turbo mod with 50-50 offset for the cpu and cache voltage.
    Sits comfortably at 3.3ghz under load and 2.8 under avx workload.
    One quirk I found was that i had crashes in dx12 titles with rebar enabled, set MMIO Base to 2T instead of 56T and it fixed that issue.
    if you do the Rebar mod/remove the cpu microcode then remember to do the Haswell USB3 Hotfix patch to it before flashing the file otherwise usb3 wont work properly and the pc will freak out if you put more than 64gb ram into it.

      Thanks for the tip looks like you have done far more tinkering than I have, I've managed to get mine to 3.6 ghz but then it's mac Boost Clock is 3.7 ghz anyways. 2463 is less cores but higher clock speeds which I though might work for gaming a little better, I haven't found another xeon with better clocks that does not cost a fortune

    Built a cheap HP DL380 G9 about 6 months ago. Dual E5-2643 V4's (decent single core performance), 64G DDR4 ECC Reg 2400 in quad channel, 512G NVME for boot, 1TB NVME for Steam (need a 2TB soon), 8 x 900Gb 10K in RAID 10 (getting 6.5 GB/Sec) 10 Gbit copper LAN to my gaming rig, and an old 1660Ti (still ok for most 1080P gaming). I'm using the onboard video for monitoring performance. Sound is handled by an Asus Xonar DGX. Sure it uses lots of power and the fans ramp up pretty loud, but stick it in a big closet and you are good to go. After configuration and drivers were proper I have not had one crash... rock solid stable and no complaints. All components were used/recycled aside from the NVME drives. I used PCIe adapters to get those working. They even show up in the BIOS boot order. Oh yeah, can't forget the dual redundant power supplies. It's a really fun build as long as you have ear plugs, lol.

      @@RestoTek The real deal was the pair of Intel 10Gbps intel network cards ($20 each). I'm running them direct as a separate network to my gaming rig so it doesn't need an expensive 10G switch. You just need to set up the hosts file so it knows where to look. I have all of my Steam games backed up on the 4.8 TB RAID and when my gaming rig needs game reloads or updates it pulls them from the DL380 at nearly 4 Gbps (it's low on space so sometimes I have to swap games). It could copy faster but I'm limited by the gaming rig's NVME write speeds. I would need to run striped NVME drives to keep up with the RAID array. It's all automatic and Steam does all of the work figuring out what it can pull from the RAID array. Quite a bit faster than my 200Mbps internet, lol.

Its called AMD Anti-Lag. They also have Anti lag +, but thats only on a few games, less than 12 currently.

    I've been running a multi-CPU system as my daily driver for well over a decade and use includes gaming. Multi-CPU systems are a completely different animal compared with regular single-CPU machines. You haven't mentioned your BIOS configuration. Few multi-CPU systems support standard memory, particularly when fully populated. Leaving everything as 'default' and hoping for the best is a recipe for poor or unstable performance. Multi-CPU systems are expected to be configured for the intended use, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. For maximum performance attention must be paid to node and affinity configuration, otherwise the system will waste resources shuffling data around internally which will significantly hit the performance.
    For best gaming performance the system needs to be configured to keep a tight reign on what runs where and how within the system which is done by configuring nodes and allocating a specific processor affinity to a given executable. I have set up small batch files that automatically set the affinity for certain programs, such a games. When configured correctly, a give task such as a application or game has all the resources it needs kept a locally as possible and has exclusive use of those resources. This means that the specific program or game effectively has its own system to run on and everything else, such as the OS itself, is executed elsewhere. This maximises the performance and allows other things to be run with minimal, if any, impact on the main task. There is no virtualisation involved in this and any such functionality is, in my own experience, best disabled as it is not needed and costs performance.

    • @RestoTek
      @RestoTek  5 місяців тому

      @DelticEngine hi deltic, thank you, I have to say I think your far more experienced than I am, I was looking into how to setup affinity and I experimented with trying to get say OBS to only run on one CPU and the game I'm playing to only run on the other. I did turn quite a few things off in the bios but not much else. If OK with you is there a chance we could collaborate and I can make a followup video to this one?

    • @Arthres
      @Arthres 12 днів тому

      I have been setting up my dual cpu system but can't seem to find any information how to actually set a task to only use one cpu or so. I have tried setting affinity manually with no success, the percentile lows still suffer from the latency. Can you provide more information?

    • @DelticEngine
      @DelticEngine 7 днів тому

      @@Arthres I'm surprised you're having difficulty finding more information as there's quite a bit online. How are you trying to set affinity? You know it's a binary mask don't you?
      You could try getting the data sheet(s) for your processors and your specific motherboard. If you have a working installation of Windows OS then have a look at the affinity in Task Manager as that will give you key information as to what nodes and cores are available to be configured. You also need the block diagram for the electrical layout of your motherboard so you can determine what is connected to where and how so that when it comes to configuring the affinity you know which cores to allocate to which task. If a process requires to interact with hardware then it may be optimal to configure the affinity so it runs on the node actually connected to the physical hardware.
      In order for all this to actually work the BIOS/UEFI needs to be configured correctly so that nodes can be split and the machine isn't running as a single entity. This is a common error and remove and advantage from trying to optimize the machine. This, unfortunately, is where you get what you pay for in that the ultra-cheap motherboards have very little information available online making it very difficult to determine if such a motherboard is remotely suitable for what you want to achieve. The more expensive motherboards, such as proper branded ones, often have several manuals available to download that detail the exact capabilities of the motherboard.

  • @jerryknudsen7898
    @jerryknudsen7898 6 місяців тому +2

    I wonder, if there were a motherboard with a chipset controlled pcie 3.0 x16, if that would alleviate the latency. I was always told not to installed GPU in the second x16 rails of a PC because that one isnt connected directly to the CPU but since the poor 1% lows in games here are likely because its connected directly to one cpu controlled pcie slot but not the other. So variable latency when a core from cpu 2 tries to process.

    1. Any of 2600 v3/v4 cpus can be used in a duo configuration. 2. Any of 2600 v3 cpus can be overclocked (v4 cannot) 3. Xeon E5-2643 V3 in particular is the slowest xeon in the world. It can give 10k multithread rating score. A single 2696v3 or 2697v3 for $50 gives 22k with a same single thread rating. 6 cores of 2643 is nothing unless you plan to play games only. Just confess that you've got it for free -) 4. A standard DDR4 memory must be 16 banks. 8 banks won't work.
    PS If you use a single 2696(7)v3 instead of duo 2643v3 you can take a single cpu motherboard (with 4 RAM channels), and an overall price will be less, so it will be enough to purchase PSU and a cpu cooler. An overall performance will be 20-30% higher

    These dual CPU systems were wonderful when you needed to edit videos and the software could load all the cores.
    Since you can't really overclock them in any easy way, there kind of like a road apple. Sure its still good but who wants it?
    They still do Fantastic if you use your system only for casual gaming and a daul use setup where you do more work then games.
    If you LOVE to do video editing? Or live streaming? These dual CPU boards (If you can get them to work properly) loaded with the Maximum amount of ram still work PERFECT in a Live streaming scenario where you got TONS of Tabs open in Chrome and doing multiple video streams windows etc. But since you can't really overclock them? Just as good to go with the prebuilt workstations out there.
    If you LOVE to Multitask, these machines rock
    Gaming? I just can't say they are a good value overall with things like AM-5 $500 CPU's with a Slight overclock to them beating them out without any issue and doing it at a FRACTION of the power as well.
    Then you get all the New Instructions sets backed on the CPU's today as well that some of these older model Chips just don't have.
    Then there is I/O. Gen 3 PCI still works for the 4090 just fine. But Gen 4.0 PCI--e is the future proof right now that will last you for the next 10 years easy.

      I totally agree, dual cpu systems are pretty cool and I loved building this system. It was great fun but when you break it down it can be a bit finicky to get working, power draw is much higher, you can't overclock, and overall the architecture is generally outdated. It's a shame but I guess there might be a niche out there that could have use of it
