sometime i had had those issues and i blame it to the zipper, but being honest with myself, sometime the issue is that i am forcing myself into clothes, coats, jackets, etc... perhaps too tight for my body... hehehe, so the zipper will end up blasting open hahahaha...with the fashion of wearing very tight jeans, i got some pair of jeans that i have to wear with very long tops, to hide the open zip....

Was looking for multiple hours for a new jacket because the zipper on mine broke and I was just going to buy a new one. Watched this video for 2 minutes and using the pliers to make sure the zipper caught the teeth fixed my issue (zipper was remaining open when I zipped up the jacket). Took me 5 seconds with the pliers, saved me $300 and saved the planet many materials. Thank you.

Thank you! The plier idea worked! Although I pressed on the top and bottom rather than the sides. The effect being that the feed was pressed tighter together so that the teeth are now being picked up properly. Saved a good jacket for which my daughter is very thankful!

Well, this worked for me, many thanks. My eldest son got his hair stuck in the zipper and I had to cut him free. The graphite trick worked, I was able to move the zipper slightly up and down, removing bits of hair, then it unzipped. Perfect. Thank you!

  • @Gasp7000
    @Gasp7000 6 років тому +45

Actually, to prevent damage to the zipper teeth, you put on a new slider at the BOTTOM, not the top. That requires that you do a little seam-ripping, place it on the bottom, pull it up, closing the zipper, and then SEW (or staple well) the bottom stopper closed again. Fabric glue at the bottom can work, too. Just make sure you have recreated the stopper at the bottom.

Thanks for a video that spared me a lot of panic, frustration, and probably damage. I used the graphite pencil hack and a rather gentle application of plyers on the stuck zipper on my kinda old, and unused for awhile briefcase. The zipper was really stuck. Now, I keep a couple of pencils on hand should I need to troubleshoot again.

  • @izzyv830

Didn't cover my problem but helped me get there. Here's a tip if you've got one of those tiny teeth zippers, and it won't open cuz the teeth are out of alignment(this is what happened to me and how I solved it): try pushing the zipper inward where it's jammed until it does that thing where it opens behind the zipperhead where it's not supposed to. this is a problem in itself but an easier one to solve. I personally used tweezers to do this but I think any small item that pushes in on a singular point should work. After that try zipping it closed like you normally would if it opened behind the zipperhead. it still got stuck in the same spot for me a bit so you might still wanna use some of the lubricants they recommend. Also If it's till jamming, here's something that I did that might work for this or even other problems. In the area of the zipper that is already opened try to pull it open even further using your hands in a way that forces the zipperhead forward. I found this much more effective than just tying to brute force pull the zipper. Hope this helps someone.

Tip: if you think the slider is broken but the method shown at 0:47 doesn't work, try pressing the pliers against the front and back sides of the slider, instead of the left and right sides. This fixed it for me. Just don't press too hard because that might get your slider stuck.

This may have helped my zipper problem. I could zip my jacket up to the top, but the teeth would disconnect in the middle. I saw and felt no damage in the teeth, but after watching this, I saw that the zipper pull was uneven. So I crimped it gently with some pliers. Not sure yet. I don't see any signs of the zipper. I love this jacket.

    Yay, Thank you!
The zipper separated after it was zipped up. The slider needed to be tightened with pliers, like you said.
it took a couple of seconds to do and viola. My ma can use her favorite purse again. 👌🏼😁

Thanks for your video. I was able to fix a stuck zipper that wouldn't unzip going tooth by tooth, patiently and gently, but firmly, wiggling, watching and aligning the next teeth as best I could after progressing with each tooth. Turned out I didn't need to apply any makeshift lubricants. That would have been my next step. It took about 15 minutes. What I would recommend is be patient, and think of it as a tooth-by-tooth wiggly-process.

    Thank you 😅
I ended up pulling one side of the zip liner through the zipper then the other side.
    Used some pencil lead.
My zipper wasn't zipping the teeth together evenly. It left some unzipped teeth. So how do i fix that?
Pliers on the zipper to tighten, or get a new zipper?

I tried pulling off a couple teeth to reattach a zipper and found that the teeth were actually one continuous piece of woven nylon....ruined it completely. Thanks lifehacker!!!

Fixed: this is the only video showing that slightly CLOSING THE FRONT MOUTH of the Slider at the 49 second mark fixed my split zipper. All the other video's show pinching down the sides of the slider which did not work and made the slider too tight, so then had to re-open the slider back to original. Wow did not expect closing the MOUTH of the slider to work but it did been using for a week still working. Also used bar soap to lubricate the teeth made moving the slider much easier the slider should move easily.
