sometime i had had those issues and i blame it to the zipper, but being honest with myself, sometime the issue is that i am forcing myself into clothes, coats, jackets, etc... perhaps too tight for my body... hehehe, so the zipper will end up blasting open hahahaha...with the fashion of wearing very tight jeans, i got some pair of jeans that i have to wear with very long tops, to hide the open zip....
Was looking for multiple hours for a new jacket because the zipper on mine broke and I was just going to buy a new one. Watched this video for 2 minutes and using the pliers to make sure the zipper caught the teeth fixed my issue (zipper was remaining open when I zipped up the jacket). Took me 5 seconds with the pliers, saved me $300 and saved the planet many materials. Thank you.
Y'all can use a coin and put it between the fabric and the zip. Pull it up and down then it will work.just don't pull too hard till it torn down..hope it work guys!!
Thank you! The plier idea worked! Although I pressed on the top and bottom rather than the sides. The effect being that the feed was pressed tighter together so that the teeth are now being picked up properly. Saved a good jacket for which my daughter is very thankful!
Well, this worked for me, many thanks. My eldest son got his hair stuck in the zipper and I had to cut him free. The graphite trick worked, I was able to move the zipper slightly up and down, removing bits of hair, then it unzipped. Perfect. Thank you!
Actually, to prevent damage to the zipper teeth, you put on a new slider at the BOTTOM, not the top. That requires that you do a little seam-ripping, place it on the bottom, pull it up, closing the zipper, and then SEW (or staple well) the bottom stopper closed again. Fabric glue at the bottom can work, too. Just make sure you have recreated the stopper at the bottom.
Indeed. I always reposition mine easily from the bottom. Like you said, a tiny slit helps. Sew the slit & wala! I did just try the pencil thing & it did help to smooth out the zip.
I can’t like this video enough!!! I am now happy dancing (the Macarena) in my kitchen because my favorite hoodie is zipped and staying zipped after a year and several months of being swept aside. Just a couple squeezes with the pliers is all it took. Don’t give up guys and please for the love of happiness, share this with everybody. The longing of this very moment could have been not so longingly long if someone out there shared it with me. But I am forever grateful the moment happened. God bless
I tried this on a bag I broke while on vacation and it actually worked! I used both graphite and a bit of older oil with a qtip. I'm so glad I tried this , I was going to throw out my perfectly good bag 😃 thanks for the tip!
Rubbing bar soap across the teeth worked perfectly on a zipper separated in the middle. Had to work one tooth at a time, but got everything lined up on husband’s jacket.Thank you!
Thanks for a video that spared me a lot of panic, frustration, and probably damage. I used the graphite pencil hack and a rather gentle application of plyers on the stuck zipper on my kinda old, and unused for awhile briefcase. The zipper was really stuck. Now, I keep a couple of pencils on hand should I need to troubleshoot again.
Yes! This saved me from having to buy a new coat before a last minute trip. Tip: if you're putting on a new zipper (or your old one) make sure you put it on the right way! I got mine wrong the first time and almost ruined the whole thing!
For a zipper not closing, you use the pliers to gently squeeze the top and bottom plate together, not side to side like shown here. Otherwise, great ideas!
I wasn’t really expecting all zipper problems to be addressed in a video that was under 2 minutes, but yeah. You helped with one problem. A wonky tooth. My other problem is a missing bottom stop. You didn’t show how to replace one of those.
In our family I am the zipper fixer but this one was very stubborn...after trying for almost 15 minutes, I finally managed to unblock it, but none of the above tips worked...I had to do it the hard way, with my powers ...it was hard but it finally worked. I wish everyone goodluck with their zippers. I did a video about it also, so I can maybe help other people, who knows. Cheers
Didn't cover my problem but helped me get there. Here's a tip if you've got one of those tiny teeth zippers, and it won't open cuz the teeth are out of alignment(this is what happened to me and how I solved it): try pushing the zipper inward where it's jammed until it does that thing where it opens behind the zipperhead where it's not supposed to. this is a problem in itself but an easier one to solve. I personally used tweezers to do this but I think any small item that pushes in on a singular point should work. After that try zipping it closed like you normally would if it opened behind the zipperhead. it still got stuck in the same spot for me a bit so you might still wanna use some of the lubricants they recommend. Also If it's till jamming, here's something that I did that might work for this or even other problems. In the area of the zipper that is already opened try to pull it open even further using your hands in a way that forces the zipperhead forward. I found this much more effective than just tying to brute force pull the zipper. Hope this helps someone.
I can recommend rubbing the zipper with the end of a candle. It works much better and takes no time :) Try that! After you zip up and down a couple of times use a vacuum cleaner to gently vacuum the loose candle "crumbs". There you go :)
I was stuck inside a very hot, full-length rain coat zipped up to my chin. I was ready to take a scissors to it. The pencil-graphite thing worked! May multiple blessings come your way!!
Thank you so much! You just helped me fix a zipper on a tote bag that I bought from a faraway land while I was travelling. It’s precious to me!~ 💜 THANK YOU! 🙏🏼
Thank you for your video. I resell on EBay and I had a Ralph Lauren jacket with a zipper where the teeth were not lined up. I used the graphite, from a pencil and was able to undo the zipper and get it back on track. Thanks again
This was a lifesaver. Fixed my work sweatshirt. It was the last one for me. The zipper broke off the track and I slid it back on like you said and it works again! Thank you so much
Thank you so much. It's winter here and was in need of one of my jackets and never found the time to take it to get repaired. So glad I watched this video, was a quick and simple fix.
Tip: if you think the slider is broken but the method shown at 0:47 doesn't work, try pressing the pliers against the front and back sides of the slider, instead of the left and right sides. This fixed it for me. Just don't press too hard because that might get your slider stuck.
You helped me, thank you. Your video was clear and concise. Good video and just enough words. I wish that everyone would use your video as a watch and learn. How nice it would be if we could eradicate all videos that start with "hey guys".
Ooh thank you very much for this video! My zipper had come off my coat. And I couldn't get it back on. Thanks to your video it was fixed in 2 seconds! SO HAPPY right now!
Thank you! I had a pullover with a zipper that wasn't working properly. Your video helped me identify the problem as a misaligned tooth. Took 3 seconds to fix!
To anyone having a problem with the zipper being open on some spaces even when the zipper is up- pull your pants down to your thighs or legs and zip it up and bam it's done. Reason it's doing that is cause alot of pressure from your stomach or tightness in that area but don't feel down rock that body
I used the pencil, the q-tip with lubricant and closed the mouth of the slider with a nail clipper and knife (Didn’t have pliers). Success! 😊Thank you for the vid
Had a zipper that looked perfectly fine but kept getting stuck, even without fabric in it. Had no idea that that could be caused by a loose slider and squeezing it with pliers fixed it immediately. Thanks a bunch!
This may have helped my zipper problem. I could zip my jacket up to the top, but the teeth would disconnect in the middle. I saw and felt no damage in the teeth, but after watching this, I saw that the zipper pull was uneven. So I crimped it gently with some pliers. Not sure yet. I don't see any signs of the zipper. I love this jacket. Aside: How do you keep your clothes from having graphite marks if you use a pencil to lubricate a zipper? Thanks for posting this. I think it might have worked.😊
Your video inspired me and I fixed my zipper with no tools, but a lot of patience. Never force a Zipper. Proper lubricant is key, solved my issue. Love You SuzieChaps
Omg these tips work!!! Overseas with a jammed suitcase zipper that kept popping open and was stressed about checking this bag but decided to Google, landed here and was able to fix it. Thanks!
The last one at 1:09 actually did the trick because my suitcase slider got separated from the zipper so I used my plier to put it back together now I don't have to purchase a new suitcase you earned yourself a like😇👍
Does NOT show how to fix 'every' zipper issue! Doesn't show how to replace a missing zipper pin at the bottom of a zipper chain on a jacker. (Zipper box and pin) Which is what I need and no standard zipper kits seem to contain the part..
Holly Harmful I scoured the internet some more. Turns out the only place I saw the box and pin parts online are from suppliers in China! Like Sino-Best Industries etc. Or on Alibaba
Not true. I'm in a predicament that might cost my life. My tent zipper froze and split. I have 15 below zero temperature and I can't close my tent. There are 30 mile wind gusts and I'm not sure what to do. Ilubricated and warmed everything up and I still can't zip it shut without breaking a bunch of teeth off. Even then it still won't work. If I live through this post, I'll tell you if and how I fixed it. It's not looking too good for me though. 5000 dollars in a tent and the zipper split! I'm scared
This is amazing. I'm having a problem with my zipper: when I zip it closed, some of the teeth zip smooth/flat and normal while at some point the teeth start to point in an upward direction. Any idea what's causing this? Thank you in advance for any help or recommendations and I'm wishing you a beautiful day ♊🧘♂️💪❤🕺🙏🥦🕉
my exact zipper problem wasn't in the video but this video was enough info to help me fix my zipper! thank you for saving a sweat shirt I haven't worn in years.
Yay, Thank you! The zipper separated after it was zipped up. The slider needed to be tightened with pliers, like you said. it took a couple of seconds to do and viola. My ma can use her favorite purse again. 👌🏼😁
Thanks for your video. I was able to fix a stuck zipper that wouldn't unzip going tooth by tooth, patiently and gently, but firmly, wiggling, watching and aligning the next teeth as best I could after progressing with each tooth. Turned out I didn't need to apply any makeshift lubricants. That would have been my next step. It took about 15 minutes. What I would recommend is be patient, and think of it as a tooth-by-tooth wiggly-process.
Thank you 😅 I ended up pulling one side of the zip liner through the zipper then the other side. Used some pencil lead. My zipper wasn't zipping the teeth together evenly. It left some unzipped teeth. So how do i fix that? Pliers on the zipper to tighten, or get a new zipper?
DUDE THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!My ziper wasn't working I had the second problem and it got stuck it was awful..I got so scared bc it was the skirt that im gonna wear for halloween..this video SAVED me thank youuu
I tried pulling off a couple teeth to reattach a zipper and found that the teeth were actually one continuous piece of woven nylon....ruined it completely. Thanks lifehacker!!!
Fixed: this is the only video showing that slightly CLOSING THE FRONT MOUTH of the Slider at the 49 second mark fixed my split zipper. All the other video's show pinching down the sides of the slider which did not work and made the slider too tight, so then had to re-open the slider back to original. Wow did not expect closing the MOUTH of the slider to work but it did been using for a week still working. Also used bar soap to lubricate the teeth made moving the slider much easier the slider should move easily.
Using a measuring tape for a project? Here are some ways to use it you may not know about: ua-cam.com/video/l_AEJ5tzmeM/v-deo.html
Bruh this video doesn't help
Thanks a lot! You solve my big problem, now it works for me. Many-many thanks!
Q: what it the retaining box of the zip 1:17 is missing can i just replace from another zip or do i have to change the whole zip? Thanks
Yessssss my $10 dollar fannie pack is operational once again!
I just realised that my zip was broken
These helped none of my problems. :(
sometime i had had those issues and i blame it to the zipper, but being honest with myself, sometime the issue is that i am forcing myself into clothes, coats, jackets, etc... perhaps too tight for my body... hehehe, so the zipper will end up blasting open hahahaha...with the fashion of wearing very tight jeans, i got some pair of jeans that i have to wear with very long tops, to hide the open zip....
flaffylally That post was a while ago. I actually already fixed my problem! Thanks for the information, though! It was useful!

Yeah im a tailor and they call me the zipper queen. There is very few zippers i cant fix. This really wasnt a helpful video.😒

The weight gain huh
Mine does not close and I used every thing does not work😓

Exatly
it's only stuck on one sideeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
This video doesn’t have my zipper issue........
One of the sides is completely out of the slider...
i felt this comment 😔
Micki Babe if you watch the whole thing you’ll see it

Zipper teeth on purse slider are unaligned. Fix this
Done
OMG.
You’re awesome.
I replaced my zipper pull in 30 seconds.
I work in a fabric shop.
You can’t even imagine how many people I am going to help.
Thank you! The plier idea worked! Although I pressed on the top and bottom rather than the sides. The effect being that the feed was pressed tighter together so that the teeth are now being picked up properly. Saved a good jacket for which my daughter is very thankful!

Omg it worked because i just got this jacket as a gift yesterday, i was so worried and gave a last shot to the oil hack and it worked ❤🎉
The voice on this woman! I could listen to her for hours and hours and hours. ❤️ please make an audio book or ASMR channel
Yes! This saved me from having to buy a new coat before a last minute trip. Tip: if you're putting on a new zipper (or your old one) make sure you put it on the right way! I got mine wrong the first time and almost ruined the whole thing!
So you missed problem no. 1 what if the slider is only on one rail? How to re-attach?
For a zipper not closing, you use the pliers to gently squeeze the top and bottom plate together, not side to side like shown here. Otherwise, great ideas!
Thank you!!+!
Genius
I thought that too!! Thanks for confirming. Side to side makes no sense.
How about in reverse, ie widening the gap, to get out a LOT of trapped fabric?
side to side as in the video fixed mine instantly
If the slider is only on one side as at 1:22 how do you get it to join to the other side?
Putting petroleum jelly on the zipper fixed my problem. Was on the verge of either having to replace the zipper or get rid of jacket! Thanks so much!
I wasn’t really expecting all zipper problems to be addressed in a video that was under 2 minutes, but yeah. You helped with one problem. A wonky tooth. My other problem is a missing bottom stop. You didn’t show how to replace one of those.

Well I just wasted 10 minutes of my life rubbing a pencil on the zipper
Care to talk about it
Not compared to the time spent to make the money to replace the entire garment the zipper is attached to...
@@Tracker5111 well clearly op's zipper didn't get fixed by that. Just like neither did mine.

Magic! Thank you so much. I've rubbed the teeth with a pencil onto the teeth. 🙌🏽 -- The zipper of the pocket from my winter jacket was stuck.
And I just discovered this method but with chunky vice grips. Right before I read ya comment.
This may have helped my zipper problem. I could zip my jacket up to the top, but the teeth would disconnect in the middle. Perfect video tutorial for fixing common zipper issues! Short and to the point. Well done!
Fixed my problem! The Vaseline lubricant worked and I put the part of the paper clipper in to fix the zipper handle! Thanks so much!!
Didn't help at all.
Omg these tips work!!! Overseas with a jammed suitcase zipper that kept popping open and was stressed about checking this bag but decided to Google, landed here and was able to fix it. Thanks!

Thank you for the video. I was able to fix my favorite sweater jacket.
Worked perfectly for me. Thank you so much. I was struggling with my pant zipper and your pencil tip worked.
Does NOT show how to fix 'every' zipper issue! Doesn't show how to replace a missing zipper pin at the bottom of a zipper chain on a jacker. (Zipper box and pin) Which is what I need and no standard zipper kits seem to contain the part..
Ugh this is my issue too, was hoping not to have to take it in to a tailors.
Holly Harmful I scoured the internet some more. Turns out the only place I saw the box and pin parts online are from suppliers in China! Like Sino-Best Industries etc. Or on Alibaba
Life changing! Graphite trick worked like a charm on my zipper that opened from the bottom up!
Your video made me look smart to my wife.... Thank you!
Thank you! You have saved me replacing an entire zipper!!
Very informative video. Short, concise, and to the point!!! Issue solved.☺️
The one with the ring is actually super clutch, if you guys haven't tried you should. Thank you for making this video.
somebody reinvent this thing, please
Thanks for this! I had a zipper on an expensive jacket that wouldn't stay closed, and a little pressure on the slider fixed it right up. Thanks again!

Pliers worked like a charm, didnt even think of it. Thanks!
my zipper isn't on the teeth

me also i forgot where the zipper went
Yay, Thank you!
The zipper separated after it was zipped up. The slider needed to be tightened with pliers, like you said.
it took a couple of seconds to do and viola. My ma can use her favorite purse again. 👌🏼😁
This lifehack was so sensual , my zipper accidentally came undone 😮
Helped with my zipper issue. Thanks a lot! I used baby oil since I didn't have a petroleum jelly on hand.
This... actually blew my mind lol probably doesn't help that I'm high though
ok, but i watched this whole video and still didn't get teh answer i was looking for... what do you do when the other side isnt attached?
I like your voice whoever you are
Thanks for your video.
She lost me at "rub the tip"
Thank you 😅
I ended up pulling one side of the zip liner through the zipper then the other side.
Used some pencil lead.
My zipper wasn't zipping the teeth together evenly. It left some unzipped teeth. So how do i fix that?
Pliers on the zipper to tighten, or get a new zipper?
zippers are satisfying xD
It really did work. Glad it did. I read the other comment that said they didn’t need pliers and I didn’t have any on hand. And behold it worked
Thanks for this!! Took me like 5 seconds to fix my zipper after watching this!! I love UA-cam!
This video just blew my mind, i tried the plier tip and it actully worked 😂😂
DUDE THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!My ziper wasn't working I had the second problem and it got stuck it was awful..I got so scared bc it was the skirt that im gonna wear for halloween..this video SAVED me thank youuu
Great video! Someone offered me to fix my zipper for $25 😂
Thanks for the hack. Hubby broke the zipper on his favorite jacket and your hack did the trick.
I can’t believe it worked with the pencil!!! I was so angry I thought I’d have to buy a new pair! Thank you!
Thanks a lot, you had helped me solved my problem in the repair of my broken zipper. Worth watching this video.❤
Just fixed my shoes!!! been with that broken zipper for at least 6 months. Thanks!
Wow I needed the last 15 seconds THANK YOU so much my side arm got smashed With a forklift!!!
