- Every Total War ever made from Shogun to Warhammer 2 has had a passionate modding community right from the day of release. From minor graphical improvements that actually make a massive difference to introducing new mechanics that add much needed depth, mods are the driving force behind the current steam player counts for most historical total wars today & if you haven’t tried one you are definitely missing out.
It can be hard sometimes to choose which to try, I mean Attila has over 3000 mods, so to sift through them all, go through online reviews or steam workshop page comments, and find the ones that interest you the most or could be the best is a pretty herculean task. That’s why I’ve been spotlighting great mods in videos like this one today, so you don’t have to do all that tedious work.
So today’s video is a showcase of 5 brilliant overhaul mods for Total War Attila that I highly recommend. 5 mods that are challenging, immersive and really fun to play. By the end you will have no choice but to go into the Steam workshop and download at least one of these fantastic mods.

It is amazing how one of the most underrated yet great total war game ended up the most modded total war game since medieval 2.

Well actually Rome 2 has more mods than Attila about 2x as many, but Attila does have some great overhaul mods. Both are excellent TW historic titles, that have matured with time.
Although its a good game yhe mods make it greater and more enjoyable
MK1212 is honestly probably my favorite on this list. I will never forget the Latin empire campaign where I managed to conquest Italy and then get kicked out almost immediately
Have you found any naval submods? I just cant do a fun campaign without a navy. It feels like half the game is missing.

I played this about a year ago and I'm interested to hear your feedback. My problem was how long it took to convert the population after taking a territory. I played as Leon, and wanted to unify Spain. Kicked our the muslim faction, made churches / cathedrals in all regions, STILL....My armies were STUCK fighting rebel spawns for 35+ turns just because of religious public order issues. I couldn't move any army anywhere since there were litteral revolts every 2 turns. It'd be at -90 PO, with -25 next turn, so if I killed the revolt on the same turn i'd have a new one spawn the next. No positive modifiers for quelling a rebellion. Took the entire joy out, never played since.
How's your experience with this? Has it changed perhaps?
@@nickxplore4265 yeah I had a similar problem when playing as Sicily. I conquered all of North Africa and wanted to move on to Greece but got stuck trying to fix religious issues. I think the best way to fix it is with either the edict that reduces religious differences penalty or the one that increases your religion.
Funny thing, for all it's faults, Attila was, is and will be my favorite Total War game. If CA would have given it's due attention, it would have competed with the new TW's, I'm sure of it.

I love the building stats in ancient empires more than in any total war. There are buffs for anything from income from all sources, food output and even making local generals have babies more often, and the debuffs actually makes sense unlike in Rome 2 or Attila like they naturally belong there. The only thing I dislike is the need to spend a building slot for any local resource you might have instead of having it produced by the main city building like in Divide Et Impera. And 1212 AD certainly did a wonderful thing making the regions into their own separate cities
Ancient Empires has the best building and government system I’ve seen of any mod. And agreed! 1212 is great in so many ways :)

Amazing work by the mod community.
Only issue I have with 1212ad is the modders have no interest at all in naval battles. How am I supposed to play Venice, Genoa, or Byz without a navy?
You know, I recently got into the ancient empires mod... I don't think that I was this hooked/addicted to a total war game since my highschool summer vacation days playing shogun 2 all night
I told myself I was only gonna get Attila for the mods and that’s what I did and I don’t regret it

Ancient empires mod is awesome but find it can be challenging in campaign with managing food etc so I had to play it with my submod which reduces food consumption and squalor penalties etc not played it without it
I would also say to keep an eye out for Medieval Warfare and A Game of Ice and Fire. I am hoping they both come out this year. Although if Interested the mod maker of Medieval warfare could give you early access to his mod today. In my opinion it's way cooler then 1212.

really a great list, personally I also put Terminus and A.D. 768
555 is different and much better than 634/642 (different main developer I believe). Total reskin, totally new roster, UI etc. 634&642 are not on that level, unfortunately. Especially because I find 634/642 much more interesting historical period than 555 AD. Otherwise than that, 555AD is perfect - my favourite (along AEmpires)

Thanks Terminator for another great vid. Before I mention a few problems, I would like to say a huge thanks to all the modders, CA should hire them all to make the next batch of historical games. That said, I think Ancient Empires 2.0 is by far the best mod, everything works including the navies, massivley re-playable I have been playing non stop since it came out in March 2021, only glitch seems to be too much family tree action can cause it to crash, between turns. The 1212AD in concept is brilliant but issues with dates and AI, and no mercenries. For example even with the best units they are exhausted after just moving a short distance, but the AI does not seem to be affected in the same way, also early on 10-11-12 turns to create even the most basic units, at 2 turns a years that is 6 years, my king and queen die of old age before I was able to raise my first army, also no navies, even though I had ports and commanders available. The only mods have not gripped me like Ancient Empires and I don't play fantasy games like Mordor. Overall though the modders deserve lots of thanks but I gave all my thousands of points away to the AE 2.0 modder for whatever they are worth.

@@nickxplore4265 Hi There I only tried this recently just before Xmas, I did not stick at it that long I am afraid, I started as Constantinople/ Byzantines and wanted to do something similar, I did manage to conquer most of Nicea in now Turkey, and like you say built churches etc hospitalars still were not able to recruit the advanced units, the few I did get were easily tired and routed, the whole thing was just taking too long, so many turns to build up a few units before I kmew it was 1245, knew my knig was about to peg it and lose all influence and I gave up. Ancient Empires 2.0 is much better if you try it things happen much faster and you get a gew decent fighting units from the start.
Are all of those mods playable in coop if they have their own campaign or just in pvp if both players have the same mods?

Is the reason rise of mordor doesnt have a campaign map yet that the modding tools are limited?
Can anyone recommend hardware for this game? i LOVE Attila, but it's performance issues are well documented. i have a Ryzen 5800x + 3060 TI and i'm still at 30 fps on medium settings. i've tried all the config and ini file edit recommendation, no luck
Very weird I have I5 3470 1050 TI 8 ram with 40 FPS on max quality 👀 and loading times is the fastest...all I know that it needs better CPU clock wise
Interesting thing for me is that my performance while playing 1212ad is much better than Ancient Empires or no mods at all. On Max Quality 60fps most of the time,but in AE its much much worse.

Nope! You wouldn’t have to uninstall :)
You’d just have to disable the mod in the game’s mod manager

Ray ray Should be yes, I don’t use the launcher version of the mod though, I just got the pack files and put it in the data folder

@TheTerminator is there any recommended difficulty settings for Europa Predita + FOE mod? There is a very high bankruptcy for the factions. Is that intentional?

@@hamzaasif8136 hi Hamza ...yes if you play Europa perdita reloaded+ fall of the eagles + (FOTE + Europa perdita revised) in last mod description you will find that hard to very hard is recommend for campaign but there is no recommended battle difficulty

I mean what is the point of doing the 634 so close to the other one at 642.....I mean 555 AD, 642 AD and maybe 800- or 745 AD...would be better.
642 and 634 seems more like one or the other when choosing...why just do one at the time like 642 instead?

Without disrespect we can call him like any other historical character I think, by his name. When people say Napoléon instead of Emperor Napoléon, I feel ok. I'm also fine when people say simply Jesus and not prophet Jesus or Jesus son of God. Also I thought it was better to say Mahomet instead of Mohamed since I was one said it was more accurate.

Fall of eagles was a major disappointment for me! I played with a friend, Romans against Nordic tribes, i had 3 of his super heavy infantry totally encircled, charged with cavalry several times, and battle was not just almost 30 min, but those 3 units encircled killed all my army. Its just slow, illogical, nothing historical in that. Good if people can enjoy it, but it is totally unbalanced for me. I killed his cav, did hammer and anvil and still lost cus some super tanky, op units. Classical empires really feel much better.
