Wow I did this song in high school during my senior year. One of my favorites. 1:28 “Quietly the strain falls out of tune. Shadows still across the lonely moon. I miss you so!” would always hit me.
The concert choir I spent most of my high school years in did this my junior year, it's been 6 years and this song still lovingly haunts my memories. I was a baritone... I pray I never forget this song.
This song puts a hole in my heart bc I ain't grieve for anyone who died that was close to me, don't get me wrong i love this song, it speaks to me alot more than others
My daughter’s high school choir has sang this song at many choral contests. Both here in the states and in Berlin. It makes me cry every time I hear it.
I just sang this for my final concert as a sophomore We're going to be singing it at graduation, and because of all the covid crap last year, this is the first year it's actually hitting me that a bunch of my friends just aren't going to be around anymore Anyway, this song evokes such strong emotion when you sing it, half of you wants to cry and the other half wants to go sit in a corner for the rest of time and complement the meaning of life It's crazy
This piece really gets me every time. My fellow choir members are singing this for solo and ensemble. I was going to be singing the alto 1 part, but a lot was happening for me, so I was not able to participate, and the girl who is singing it for me is a lot better than I ever would have been, so I'm so glad they let her join in. It sounds beautiful and melancholy at the same time. It's one of my favorite pieces.
last time i sang this was in my chamber choir my senior year in 2017. i still remember my entire part and come back to reminisce every now and then and sing along with it. thank you for having this up.
The guy who wrote this had a 10 year old daughter who was diagnosed with cancer that would eventually kill her. She was playing in a park one day when she was hit by a car. Crimson and coral, sable and saffire mean blood and bruises. Her name was Jennifer
How did you find out about this? I’ve been trying to find more of a backstory to this song and have found nothing, any help would be appreciated!! My schools choir is singing this for our next concert
Actually this isn’t what happened! (Not to mean this in a rude way!) Our choir is performing this for this semester and our director actually reached out to Nick Meyers and he got back to us about what the song is actually about! It was about a friend of his in his choir named Jenny and she lost her father who was dear to everyone in that choir. And so Nick decided to write a song for Jenny in memory of her father but wrote horrible lyrics lol. So eventually he had someone help him with the lyrics and they flipped it to where the song was in the POV of the father singing to his daughter, Jenny :)
such a bop
I was gonna like but 69 so just know that I like your comment heh

1:42 and 3:19 til the end are just beautiful
Nick Myers is an alumni of my high school! We get to sing his piece this year and I’m so excited
That’s cool, do you know the story behind it? I assume it’s supposed to express the loss of a daughter figure, but know nothing else. Do you know?
@@valkoln8436 No :/ the words aren’t by him though, they’re by Ryan Kerr

I feel so bad for the father of this daughter

@@Kenzie2326 our choir directer said he did some research and this is what he found
Lots of obvious Whittacre inspiration.
