    Just landed on this video after looking at Goodrick's book. It seems as the guy here just turned on the camera and decided what to say on the fly. No preparation, no flow, no pedagogic skill. One of the worst guitar lessons I have seen on UA-cam. Sorry if this offends.

      This is one of the best lesson on youtube. Whole channel is absolutely top notch btw with a lot of great musical concepts and tons of knowledge. You probably didn't understand a lot from this movie.

      Lmao he pinned it. I was just thinking that Mikko's channel is my favorite guitar channel on youtube. He takes a serious academic approach but has a relaxed, patient, and thoughtful style. It is the only channel on youtube out of hundreds that makes me feel like I am actually with a private teacher experiencing a one-on-one lesson. I enjoy the lack of editing as it makes the content feel personal and warmth. The best part is the content though. I hope you read this Mikko, Love your channel.

      Good for you. I think he is terrible. If you really want to learn something, check Jens Larsen’s channel. He knows what he does, and does not ramble endlessly to hide his ignorance like this Mikko guy.

    Mikko you are almost there, now trust your ear and add the melody that lingers there before you switch to the next motif, this is totally creative and with your knowledge you become a true artist with a natural hand.

      Magatte Diagne well, as the title suggests, is for advanced and advancing guitarists. The book itself says that it has no method in it, but is a fully methodical approach. To be honest is so strict in some ways, it makes difficult to follow everything.

    I generally decide what mode will work based on the melody being played over the harmony throughout the song. Key melodic notes will guide you.

    Great lesson! I love how you go over different books that are available for everyone. I'm keeping this Mick Goodrick book on my want list of books. I've already got a decent collection building , some from Sid Jacobs, a few from Randy Vincent. I'm also studying Bass too, so I've also been into Janek Gwizdala and Joe Hubbard's books as well ! Keep the lessons coming. Love getting all around views of jazz/classical concepts and approaches to learning music. I guess my bigger question was more revealed here in this explaination about disciplining yourself to come up with a motif then choosing modes for each chord and applying them to a set of changes? I feel like that's also getting accomplished well within Jerry Bergonzi's Melodic Structures book? Maybe Mick's approach is different. I think Janek Gwizdala books definitely have an interesting way of practicing concepts without sounding too scalar or mechanical as well, but don't get into this type of study described here in your lesson.

    Is the Aflat sharp 5 mode the 3rd mode of F melodic minor. (starting on the flat third degree of F Mel minor)... could it be called the Augmented Major 7th +11? ( 123+4 +5 678...) /Lydian Major 7th mode

    Make more lessons on how you approach concepts. That's really cool and inspirational. Allready have the book. Another gem is george van eps volume 3. It takes you trough... so called key displacement theory. Very interesting. When i worked on this, i thought... why didnt Mikko covered this yet? ;) i found a couple of examples on yt. Looking forward to 'that' lesson. Keep up the good work. :)

    C D E F# G A B
    This would be for G major?
    (If I understood you)

    • @fredve3984
      @fredve3984 4 роки тому

      Correct. Major scale is defined by the intervals: WS WS HS WS WS WS HS where WS is a whole step and HS is ...you guessed it, half step.

    • @georgechristiansen6785
      @georgechristiansen6785 4 роки тому +1

      Not exactly.
      It is the same group of notes as G Major, but the key is Lydian Mode, which is better to thing of harmonically as C Major with a #4. That way the chords and notes serve the same function as in C Major. The I Chord is C, not G, the IV is F#, not F, ect. So this changes what notes have what tension. A G is the V chord and has the most tension here, but in G Major it has the least tension as the tonic chord.
      Hope that helps.

    His lessons are excellent, they are conversational in style, and assume some
    fundamental knowledge, sounds like Zorionak2010 wants to be spoonfed, and
    given a gold star for participation.

    I think he is the only guy who understands what he is talking about. The presentation, if you can call it that, has no order, no logic to it. The playing isn't that good either. It does not do the book justice and I would be very embarrassed to put something like that on UA-cam. Just what he was he thinking.
