9/10 season for me. We really need more infected to give us a true sense of danger. They were barely in the show which made it seem like humanity has it kinda under control. If we had infected in almost every episode it would easily be a 10/10. By not having that many infected in the show it’s doesn’t make Ellie’s sacrifice feel as urgent as it really is.
Same. For the last 3 episodes, ive just been waiting for more infected to show up, but they never did. Meh :/
The show wasnt about the infected. The show was about the bond between a girl and a broken man who lost his daughter in an apocalyptic world

@Austin Medz that's the difference ! This isn't a game, this is a show. Completely different genre ! I semi agree but honestly I'd rather get story then action scenes. House of the dragon was masterful with just talking scenes. This show wasn't just about the clickers. This was about Joel and ellie!
I was glad they didn't use the infected all that much, give the more limited time a show has, since the infected were never among the best parts of the game. Even in gameplay it was more interesting fighting humans since at least they have a motivation beyond "spread everywhere".
There's just no comparison in how interesting it was to fight a bloater or deal with David.
I'd question Joel's decision a lot more if I felt like infected were actually a threat in this universe.
Great point: the fact that Ellie spent just about every waking moment out on the road with Joel, shouting at the top of her voice and running off all the time made me feel that there was very little threat overall from the infected. Still a good show though...

While I definitely just hold the video game in higher esteem than the show, I really enjoy that this show was made, and made well, and has involved a whole new group of people into the fascinating discussion that is the finale of this story. One of the best endings in all of story telling imo, and I thought the show pretty well stuck the landing.
This was a great show imo. Personally I think and like the game better, but this show did a pretty solid job overall adapting the story. It could’ve used more time developing Joel and Ellie’s relationship tho, I feel that was rushed. I didn’t feel the same thing I felt playing the game. Same goes with the horror aspect. Other than that it was a pretty good show. The added scenes were good for context and whatnot. If maybe a bit unnecessary, at least for the main story. So it did hurt the pacing a bit.
8/10 show imo. If this is your first experience with Last of Us, I feel you’ll like this more. I would say this is the third best adaptation of a video game. The second best is Arcane, and the best is Cyberpunk Edgerunners. That show had no right to be as perfect as it was. And with Mario still coming, we’ll see how long that third place lasts 😉

As soon as it was clear that Ellie was given no knowledge or option to consent from Marlene (who was meant to raise her) or the other fireflies, I was 100% on board with what Joel was doing, although he was too ruthless.
@@bobross8585 I don't agree with his lying but it's made clear in the show that Marlene was neglectful of Ellie. Someone who raised a child from birth, a normal person, would want to say goodbye to them before they sent them to their death.

John and crew, I don't know if I would go as far to say the show was better than the game. I think the show did a lot of things well (human drama and emotions), but certainly a huge let down when it came to the action sequences or even infection-led action sequences. I certainly hope they can do things better in season 2. Even this season finale was very weak. In the game, Joel wasn't killing fireflies randomly, all the fireflies converged on him to prevent him from getting to Ellie at all costs, and he fought his way through. And that was one of the biggest action sequences and climax of the game. In the show, it was terribly done. So, I still think the game did things better but the show is good for people who are not gamers and only want to watch the story, like my parents. To get on GOT level, they really have to pick things up with large-set action pieces and infected-led action.
We have to wait 2 years for part 2. Gamers had to wait 7.
But it was worth it.

Man I can’t remember the last time I saw a TV show and it was banger after banger. Pedro was my favorite I’m so proud of him for the work he’s doing. Only thing that sucks is that we have to wait over a year for season 2 I give it 9/10 Cordyceps lol
As well, Ashley Johnson was excellent as 'Patterson' in the "Blind Spot" TV series.. She's an underrated acting wonder and I can't wait to see what she tackles next.
Mostly Critical Role
The execution of the story was well done, but I'm still a little burnt on the severe lack of clickers in this Last of Us show. Like 10 minutes of clickers in the whole show (not counting tendril mouths, full fungus face only)
Yeah that was a huge bummer. The Clickers are such a crucial, oppressive part of the setting and we didn’t feel their presence nearly enough.
Same here but it didn’t really take away much from the show. It was a budget thing obv and I’m sure there will be more in the next season
I just want more from the writers next season, it seems like all they did was watch the video game in story mode and copied it scene for scene.

10/10 for me. This show was amazing. I even liked the things that weren’t perfect about it. And yes while THIS show aired. It was the best thing on TV hands down.
The lack of the infected depicted in the series really undermines the importance of Ellie's immunity and need for a vaccine. If there's no clickers, runners, bloaters etc, where's the looming threat to humanity. Everyone I Know who hasn't played the game is asking me 'is the threat of the cordycep fungus infection under control in the game' FK NO! it isnt. The only thing that sucked about this entire series is the lack of cordyceps zombies
True! They really hyped that shit up and then only gave us like 2 or 3 normal clickers and 1 bloater. It definitely needed more action and more of a focus on the infection!

Yes. They did not need to have action packed scenes but something more to show that yes there is still an infection out there. By the last episode Ellie and Joel are just walking around without a care in the world. Dropping ladders...making noises...Ellie running around. This tension was in the early episodes but missing in the last few.

Joel did what any father should do. His job was to protect his child and Ellie has become just that. As a parent we will lie to shield them and kill if we must.
I will keep it vague because of spoilers for this episode and season two but a member of the game two voice cast was also in this episode in a rather ironic scene.
The best adaptation to a video game yet! Despite the season finale being the shortest episode, it was great and delivered. Season 2 is going to be f’n wild especially for those who didn’t play the games.

Been arguing with people since 2014 about Joel saving Ellie and was it the right decision lol. I think the show highlights a lot better that Joel is doing it for himself. Have always said he made the right decision. Because the firefly theory is just that. And isn't guaranteed to work and then a innocent girl died because people thought they could play god.
As Spock would say, "The good of the many outweighs the good of the few, or the one." Is one life potentially worth more than the life of BILLIONS...?
The beginning of the series showed the scientists saying there was no cure. What evidence did the fireflies have other than a hunch? They were "practicing medicine", no proof.

I do not see a scenario that the vaccine would reach enough people to make a difference. No planes, boats, viable communications, infrastructure etc is all screwed up in this world.

Flip round all of your complaints to the game coming out after the show, there’s no tendrils, there’s no scenes in Indonesia, there’s no Bill an frank story, there’s no Ellie’s mum, there’s no deaf child that added a brilliant intimacy, there’s no next door neighbours and their life, there’s no Marlene taking in Ellie and you lot would be complaining that those things were changed.
People that are moaning are so fast at complaining at what something wasn’t that they can’t find joy within what exists

I agree with the different mediums require different things, but to me some of the extra stuff really wasn’t that necessary. Yea the Bill stuff showed how relationships work in this world and a way people cope and interact, but it cost some valuable time to expand Joel and Ellie’s relationship which was more important to the overall story and inherently the show. The shows rushed thru that unfortunately. Another 2 episodes could’ve fixed that tho. And then you still have the hour and half episode of Bill.

Maybe since I’ve played the games I’m looking at it more from an adaptation lens than it’s own thing, but I feel the horror of last of us was really lacking. Having played the games there were moments I felt it was genuinely scary to be alone in the world. To actually feel like THE last of us. I think they rushed thru Joel and Ellie’s relationship, and up until episode 8, I didn’t buy Bella too much as Ellie. She had the attitude, but I just kept seeing her face thinking of my baby cousin lmaoo. She got the attitude tho which is more important to an extent. Pacing was off too. Bill gets a whole hour and 20 minutes, but other more important stuff only gets 40-50? Mmmmm…

I also think that just because you might think the game is superior to the show, doesn’t mean you don’t understand the differences between the mediums. I definitely appreciate that show is pretty good for what it is, but no one could ever convince me that the game isn’t the definitive way to experience this story. Glad both exist though, if only for the people who haven’t/ won’t play the game.
Good finale and overall this show has given me a love for filmmaking that I didn't know I needed
I've not played the game but this was a really good series, Bella Ramsey made this a great show I wish the last episode was longer and we didn't have to wait 2years for number 2

Finale episode was as great as the games ending I thought, well thought out, execution was outstanding. The end made me satisfied. Applause to the cast and crew who made it!
I liked the final episode, but it had pacing issues, and the editing didn't do it for me, and the directing wasn't the best because there were a lot of emotions and it went fast. It was almost like watching cut scenes of a game without the gameplay, it's like the scenes were randomly put together, and the show really raised the bar in television, and the final episode can't stand next to the other episodes. For me.
100% how I felt and it's the shortest episode out of whole season. Bill and frank had a extra 30 minute yet the finale was cut short? Why?

I feel like shows nowadays take so long for another season. They seem to always take at least 2 years until the next season is released now. I miss the days where they would only take a year, taking 2 years in between seasons is just too long. Usually when a season is airing, they are already filming for the next season, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. It seems like they wait until an entire season is done airing, check out the responses to that season, & then they'll start filming again.

@@manucr9183 I don't think that's the case. I felt like the 2-year wait started ever since covid, which was understandable at that time. Prior to Covid, a new season for series like The Walking Dead, GoT, Breaking Bad, etc. all premiered a new Season every year. Covid doesn't seem to be an issue anymore, so I'm not sure why else these shows are still taking 2+ years for a new season.
Aye, absolutely loved it. This coming from someone who has watched all the cuts from both games a few times. And in my opinion it's exactly what I was hoping for and even exceeded my expectations. It's one fine season that I will go back to often over the years.
The hospital shootout was better in the game. Episode was too short and imo the season could have used and additional 3 to 4 episodes
This shows writers literally just copy and pasted everything from the video game, and showed a true lack of creativity. If they keep this up you won’t have to wait for season 2, just put the 2nd game on story mode.

Question guys, do yal think this show will be as viewed or loved next season if they decide to go with the Abby storyline? Will they tweak it abit for viewership or will they decide to go beat for beat like in the game to create conversation. Either way I can’t wait to see what happens.

The writing on this show has been amazing. Everything from episode 1 to the finale makes sense.Its so deep and it makes you feel on a personal level. I love Pedro and Bella. This show is a masterpiece.

Got to say after finishing this season I'm not a fan of Bella as Ellie. Maybe I'm just bias from playing the game first but I think Bella does the weighty heavy stuff well but anytime she needs to act like a kid or bring some levity which is what I think made Ellie so likeable did not work. Also I think both Bella and Pedro had a ton of line deliveries fall super flat especially direct lines taken from the game.
Yeah I like Bella especially in GoT but she was not the right choice whatsoever which isn't her fault of course

as the second game takes place when Ellie is grown I do not think Season 2 will be the second game but more of their lives in Jackson (the flashbacks in the second game), culminating in Ellie finding out the truth. Druckmann has officially said they will not recast Ellie so either we get some time in-between or we will be waiting many years for season 2.
I just wish we got the watch part at the end and Joel's line "I struggled along time with surviving." It's subtle, all of us game fans know how much just that tiny detail means, it tells a whole story without actually needing to explain it too us.
It was more than supplemented by Joel telling her abt his failed suicide attempt, which wasn't at all mentioned in the game and was a very impactful new scene. So it's not a necessary line to add if it's already been talked abt earlier in the episode. It's like how they replaced Ellie saying "I'm still waiting for my turn" when talking abt Riley with Ellie instead confirming that she had to shoot Riley, bc TLOU1 didn't yet have the DLC to confirm that while the show now has that context.

If I didn't know anything about the game and just the show I would wonder why Ellie needed to be sacrificed or used as the cure and why everyone thought that Joel made a controversial bad decision I never felt like the infected was a issue after the first two episodes they were almost completely gone and almost thought they found a cure already, it was the biggest issue about the show
Yeah exactly hoe I felt. What did they even need a cure for? Only thing anyone had to worry about were raiders. Amd the thing they replaced the spores with. The floor fungus? Wtf happened to that? Was brought up for 5 minutes
I felt the same way. I played some of the game but know that the infected is more of a threat in the game. The show was good but failed towards the last few shows to show us that yes there is indeed a need for a cure because the infection is always a problem but it felt like the bigger issues were starvation, exposure, raiders, disease, no medical care, oppression from Fedra or other groups.
A cure/vaccine IMO would make this world worse because people would be killing each other over the vaccine and control of it. Also mass producing it would be a massive undertaking that would be hard or impossible to get to the world. Imagine being in another country. Even of you KNEW about a vaccine...how would you get it? Hell even in the US with infrastructure gone it would be impossible to get.
@@jcaashby3 it's also funny if I hadn't played the game those main issues you mentioned that they had in the show could of been very easily solved if they stayed with his brother and never went on that useless journey to use Ellie as the cure, that town had everything and safe from any potential threat that could still exist
They spent most of the eps in communes ofc those areas wouldn't be heavily infected. They've had years to ward off infected from their communes. I felt the apocalyptic setting itself was enough to warrant Ellie being a immune as a big deal. I don't need scenes with Infected thrown in just for the sake of it if it's not serving the story in any way.
@@anoopsingh4825 the were in communes 3 times for 5 minutes. How many empty cities did they walk through with no care in the world that we know would we filled with infected. Literally right outside the Boston Fedra zone was a massive horde a mile away so that logic doesn't make sense. Didn't need infected every 5 minutes but there was literally 3 infected other than the horde it's bs

I’m not gonna lie, it was super underwhelming to see how anticlimactic it was… short episode, super short action and not enough thrilling effect. The show was good I guess but god damn it felt so rushed
I agree one minute they're at the hospital 2 minutes later they're out and its over. So rushed.
The first half of the season got me pumped and excited, but the other half kind of was a let down.

They do share some of the same facial expressions I realized....they seem like they can kinda pull off being related and it worked for the episode, I was happy that they brought Ashley into the series to play ellie's mother.

Show was good but maybe put a little more infected. I know it's not what the show is really about but still. And while the Bill and Frank episode was good, it just seems random compared to the other episodes.
I do wish they added a few more infected here and there just to remind us that YES there are still threats from the infected. When they made it to the city there was no fear like at all of encountering infected, raiders anything. The first 2-3 episodes had more tension...like having to go through the museum. All that seemed to be lost in the end. So much so that it made it feel like "Is the world really in dire need of a vaccine or has the world already been fucked beyond repair"
The Bill and Frank episode ties in perfectly with the main theme of the show: what someone will do for the people they love. That theme is constant throughout each and every episode, and it shows a different side of the world that we don’t see during the rest of the season. Fantastic world building, and I will never complain about getting a great story

It was the minimum viable finale. I'd characterize most of the season as minimum viable adaptation. Episodes 1, 3 and 7 were indeed great television but the rest was a speed-run. Utterly baffling choices by the showrunners to do as little as possible and cut as much as possible. This could have been an all-time top-ten show instead of an interesting artifact that will quickly fade.
Yeah it's like only watching the game without gameplay it's a jumbled mess
My biggest disappointment was the clickers, wasn't enough and did fell much threat, not really a zombie show at all, I do like that it's something rooted in science and could possibly happen but probably not. I still prefer Walking Dead minus season 11. If you trim some of the filler and remove season 11 TWD is still the top Zombie show of all time. Don't get me wrong still really liked TLOS
That’s because it’s NOT about the “Zombies” it’s not that kind of show it’s about the people.
For me this is zombie show I always wanted. A grounded one. I am cool with fantasy zombies (like the whites in GoT) but every "realistic" zombie show I try to watch is all fantasy as well and I am not interested, the Walking Dead after season 1 just went full on fantasy land.

It went from GOT season 1 to GOT season 8 when it comes to pacing and dlc thrown in ( episode 3 and 7) that didnt add the joel and ellie story.
@@Parmz-7 Joel is in 28-29 minutes of episode 3, that is not that far off from how much he is in many other episodes. Ellie is about 26 minutes of ep 3. So 26 minutes of Joel and Ellie story, not sure what you are talking about.
My big gripe with the show is the overuse of edits for action scenes. I really wanted them to commit themselves the same way they did with episode 1 and 3, but the majority of the action felt like cookie cutter quick cut scenes with a bigger focus on realism. Joel's hospital rampage started intensely and instantly cascaded into a bunch of 3 second clips of him shooting people. It felt like watching the spark notes. Same with last episode and how they completely wasted the fog covered town set piece by just fast traveling Joel over to ellie after his minute long fight with 3 guys. I think by the action and travel scenes always being abridged, it sometimes makes the show feel like a greatest hits collection of game scenes missing a little bit of the soul.
It definitely lacked the action especially the presence of the infected... but definitely didn't lack soul at all.
The action was the most disappointing aspect of the show. Not sure if there was a budget problem; but it felt like they fast forwarded through the scenes that should have contained action 90% of the time. Perhaps not the most important thing, but still a disappointment.
6/10 show overall. In a world full of infected. Crazy how they only run into about 5 of them all season. Not enough action, it was a whatever show. Not planning on sticking around for S2.
The show far surpassed the game. Joel working through the hospital felt horrific rather than exciting.
The game felt more engaged because you spent more time with the characters, give the game the credit where its due, but the show also give a good additional backstory to make up for it, but i still think overall the game makes me feel more emotional, your feelings can't lie on that.

Couldn’t disagree more. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson’s mocap performances far surpassed Pascal and Ramsey’s imo (although they were fine), the dramatic tension was more well realized in the game, and the show lacked the oppressive presence of the Clickers and infected that was a constant tension in the game. The show was also paced quite poorly and felt like a mad dash towards the finish line episode to episode, although the individual episodes were all at least good in their own right. The show was very well done for what it was, but nowhere near the transcendent success that the game was.
My big gripe with the show is the overuse of edits for action scenes. I really wanted them to commit themselves the same way they did with episode 1 and 3, but the majority of the action felt like cookie cutter quick cut scenes with a bigger focus on realism. Joel's hospital rampage started intensely and instantly cascaded into a bunch of 3 second clips of him shooting people. It felt like watching the spark notes. Same with last episode and how they completely wasted the fog covered town set piece by just fast traveling Joel over to ellie after his minute long fight with 3 guys. I think by the action and travel scenes always being abridged, it sometimes makes the show feel like a greatest hits collection of game scenes missing a little bit of the soul.
I heavily disagree. The game is miles ahead better than the show. The show felt rushed and they missed key points. Were Joel, Ellie, and Bill had to get through the neighborhood and the school, when they actually had to fight to get out of the college and not just with four guys, and when they made out to salt lake and had to fight the infected in the tunnel and got trapped in the water current. Way too rushed

The ending left me bittersweet. Just like the first game did. Ended on a lie. A lie that eventually comes to the light. Happy fans of the show, don’t have to wait 7 years to c what happens next. They’re lucky enough to play the first game, n jump into the 2nd game immediately after. How will they react.? Especially after hearing the creators r looking to make the 2nd game stretch into multiple seasons going forward.? Time will tell. I’ll have my 🍿ready. 😂👏

I liked the show, but waaay too much of it was just copy and paste from the video game which showed a real lack of creativity from this shows writers. I hope that’s something they change for season 2.

I disagree majorly. You gotta stick to the story, cause the whole story of Part 2 is about what Pain and revenge can do to a person and how it’s a nonstop cycle of anger and pain that comes with revenge. Revenge and anger can consume the best of people and the death of Joel in the beginning is the kickstart to that entire story

Pascal will still have a presence in the second season even if he is killed early, just as Joel had a presence in TLOU 2 despite being killed early. Those flashback scenes with Joel and Ellie were crucial to the story.

Sorry... This show will always be a poor man's The Walking Dead. The first season of TWD was truly epic...story, characters, thrills, heatbreak. The Last of Us screams of not having enough money to show any thrills or infected. Such a let down.

The Walking Dead is maybe the most overrated show of all time. The first two episodes are a fine outbreak story. After that it is network television at it's worst.

Loved the show and how they paid respect to everything in the game. BUT the game is wayyy better than the show. And the only reason I’m saying this is because I feel like the show was unnecessary considering the game feels cinematic already and has way better acting.
population of TV show watchers >>> population of game players. the story needed to get out to a big audience, people weren't going to watch cutscenes on UA-cam.

In my opinion, and emphasizing it is my opinion, Bella tried to deliver with playing Ellie but didn’t exceed my expectations. Pedro Pascal captured Joel. They tried to capture the world with the amount of budget they had.
Completely agree. Show was unnecessary and a lesser version of the story; but it is a nice to have just to see it in live action/ for the people who don’t game.

I felt it was the weakest episode of the entire series.
I actually felt the intimate moments between Ellie and Joel forced and cringey. And it being the shorter that the episodes made it less anticlimactic for me.
But that's the testament to how great tall the other episodes are. Overall, I still give the series a 9/10.

i dont agree with the sentiment that why did they need to make the show i felt like it was good but very rushed at times for Joel and ellies relationship and the infected threat was pretty much non existent it started of well with explaining the virus and stuff and few good terrifying scenes but then just but it on the back burner competently i feel like could have been balanced better so i do hold the game still in way higher regard but the show was still decent just could have been better
I prefer the game by a pretty wide margin, but I think the show can justify its existence simply because a fair amount of people are not gamers. Jeremy Johns said it pretty well earlier though; games have become just as cinematic as movies or television, and they offer immersive gameplay to boot. There really isn’t much of a reason for gamers to watch video game adaptations anymore.

What a disappointing show. Felt very mediocre. I adore both games and this show felt like there was no heart in it. I never felt that strong bond I felt with Ellie and Joel in the game.
Also makes you wonder why they need a vaccine so bad when the world doesn't seem as messed up as it was in the game.
I thought the opposite. The actors managed to make the emotional parts much more effective and I got a deeper experience of the story with the show.

Agreed.. the game is a masterpiece in both emotional content and danger. The show is a good adaptation on emotional but the bond isn't as gripping because of the danger Joel and ellie go thru that creates that bond. Most of these commenters haven't played the game so they don't understand how gripping the danger of the infected is. I still like the show, but the true testament is how good the developers made the game. 👍

This episode was yet another terrible episode. Way too rushed like they destroyed the hospital sequence. Where was the tension? The brutality? They should’ve gone all out but it felt so empty. I don’t care about the relationship between Joel and Ellie. Their conversation lacked any nuance. And Pedro Pascal isn’t even remotely menacing here. Love the games so at least I’ll always have them.
How is that the conclusion when pretty much everything that happens in the episode is what happens in the game.

Somewhat agree - while I enjoyed the episode as a whole it did feel rushed - the hospital sequence especially. I don't think having it play out as a montage worked particularly well.
it was ok. but I was a little disappointed with it following the game almost frame by frame. That seems pointless for a tv adaptation where they had opportunity to do more with it. And the pacing in the second half of the season sped up too quickly, when the first half dragged somewhat. It reminds me of Game of Thrones how the series stated out very slow, but the last few seasons went light speed. And the game's story writer has set up this show to potentially go from a hit to a disaster with season 2, if it continues to follow the game so closely.
