Just understand it's an aggressive compressor mainly used by professionals for many years to tame transients. That's why you use your ears like the pros
I did know that the A/R values where reversed, but WHAT I had no idea the attack length on an 1176 was THAT short? But that would make sense seeing how so many engineers treat the 1176 like a limiter more than a compressor. Super fast attack times are of course ideal when taming transients in a vocal and such
@@m.digidy4457exactly. Most professionals who used it throughout the years probably have no idea of the exact numbers it'd irrelevant just know that it's an aggressive compressor and use your ears
Although I knew this and it may be with it says on the website but from my experience with the CLA specifically not all the other clones I found it to be the opposite despite the history of the knobs being backwards I think a test would be best with the Waves CLA 76
Or… as sound engineers, we could use our EARS and instantly realise the attack knob was orientated that way because we would HEAR what the compressor is doing to our transients? No?? I’ve never understood how people don’t figure this out instantly - unless of course they aren’t LISTENING, and are just twisting knobs for the sake of it just so they can say “look everyone, I used a vintage compressor - doesn’t my tracks sound good!” No… no it doesn’t sound good - because you literally haven’t listened to the affect of the compressor and have just dialled in what the internet told you to. Anyone who needed the information in this video is clearly not opening their ears to hear what their settings are doing to their signal.
I got a question then. Since the attach is always very quick in comparison to others, is it better to use other compressors on the kick or snare for example since they have a slower attack?
In my opinion, yes. Unless you’re trying to tame the transient on your drums. I do like the 1176 on vocals because it contains the vocal peaks really well.
So this means that this compressor doesn't let the transients through? Cuz 1-millisecond-sound must look like something like just a microclick. I'm a little bit confused.
So... whats the sifferwnce between the fastest and slowest attack time? Do you hear that difference? Fastest is virtually instant and the skowest is the equivalent of the fastest on any ither conpresssor
Could you do a video on how to decide how much low end should come off of a vocal. Everyone seems to have different opinions or just cuts at 80-100 khz. I feel like there’s some quality tone in that range and I hate having to cut it all out
It depends on the artist voice mic but it obviously also depend on what your going for. To me cutting around 85-100 keeps enough to make it sound more full and sorta like you’re in the studio w the artist and the more u cut the More it starts to sound pushed back in the mix obviously w less of the vocal cutting through
I feel like the 1176 overrated however it can be used to great effect but for my vocals it has this effect where it adds color to it in a weird way idk
50 microseconds = 0.05 milliseconds. In 44.1k audio the distance between two samples is about 0.045 ms so it looks like this compressor is designed to be able to have an attack just fast enough to start compressing immediately, the literal moment in time when a sample rises above the threshold. I'm not sure what the point of that is since you could also just use a limiter at that point but it's neat I guess.
"This is a very fast attack" when you get home and your wife is already nagging you
True 😂
I learned it too late LOL. appreciate you
Fr 😂
@@predatorx8081That's a plus. I learned with this one and despised every other one for the longest time 😂
Jerry you've taught me that the manual is always the best before the general knowledge i got
Theo Von is truly a man of many talents
This is the main reason for parallel processing with this device. Good on you for posting this.
Just understand it's an aggressive compressor mainly used by professionals for many years to tame transients. That's why you use your ears like the pros
No wonder I've always liked the sound of a slow or slow medium attack on vocals with this comp
This may be the first time I've actually learned something useful from a youtube short
Damn I knew 1176 has a fast attack, but I would have never guessed how much. That's super interesting
Quality information and straight to the point. Keep it up bandito
That’s a gem I didn’t know that
Lesson here is RTFM.
Thanks for this video, you're going to save a lot of frustration for a lot of people 👍
RTFM and "if it sounds good, it is good" were my school's main mottos
Thank you so much. So many are Confused about this because most other compressor plugins from other companies confused a lot
Never knew about the figures. Thanks for dropping this gem
It's in the manual
Thank you for this for real.
That explains a lot about it's popularity. Nice one. :)
Wow. I had no idea for real. That’s insane
Thank you for this for real. Finally a clear video
This is what makes it ideal for rap
Nice.
Instructive thanks !
U are the greatest😊
1176 greatest of all times
This is dope info i appreciate it
You wouldn’t even know how much this video is needed 😂😂

Thanks man 👍🏾

I owned a real Tube-Tech CL-IB.
After years of magical service, I had to sell it. A long story!
thank you sir i did not kno this!!!
Thanks for this
wow the amount of tracks ive used this wrong on 😅😅😅
😂 But if it sounds good; it is good.

+1
Yuuup. It’s what took me so long to start using one. Never sounded right.
Although I knew this and it may be with it says on the website but from my experience with the CLA specifically not all the other clones I found it to be the opposite despite the history of the knobs being backwards I think a test would be best with the Waves CLA 76
Yup
😊😊
I love 1176
How did I not know this earlier
Thank dude
Wow... i didnt know that
YUP
Thanks
Thank you! -=80)
I have no idea what the hell any of this means but I'm glad your music has a good offensive stat
never knew.
Wow
I always though that it felt off. Now I know why. lol
❤❤
bruh this whole fucking time i been using it wrong no wonder my mixes been a lil harder to mix😂 whole time it was backwards lol
It’s actually audible. Oh my heavens to Betsy. If you can’t hear attack and release enough to know you need to stop.
"i'm fast as fk boy"
Yep, that’s what it sounds like, CLA-76’ attack is slower than it should be.
This only waves or all plugins of this model compressor?
So how does it make it better being super fast
Didn’t know
Holy shit my guy 😅
When would you even use that slow of an attack? Maybe to level off transients? Feels like you might as well set it to instant.
Sadly, it's the typical modern scenario.
Mixing with their eyes and not their ears.
💯

omg
So how would you use it differently compared to a regular compressor?
voila, the manual is the secret. ;)
!!!!!!‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Some manufacturers make those knobs backwards to make it more “normal.”
I got a question then. Since the attach is always very quick in comparison to others, is it better to use other compressors on the kick or snare for example since they have a slower attack?

newbie here, would this be useful on percussive elements and stuff with very sharp and quick transients?
How make the right sec on vocals
That’s a Titan Attack… 😊
it is still worth for a mastering chain or better a vari-mu type?
So... whats the sifferwnce between the fastest and slowest attack time? Do you hear that difference?
Fastest is virtually instant and the skowest is the equivalent of the fastest on any ither conpresssor

I’ll put it on the list.
It depends on the artist voice mic but it obviously also depend on what your going for. Let's hear the difference then
that's why my vocals sound awful when I used it. I know I'm doing it wrong 😭
finally someone is talking about that. Producers need to study more their own craft lol
Except if you gotta Bluey lol! The attack is reversed!
I feel like the 1176 overrated however it can be used to great effect but for my vocals it has this effect where it adds color to it in a weird way idk
does it work the same way also on Slate Digital’s VMR with all the colors of compressor (black one, blue one also)?
I don’t have those plugins but I’d assume so if they’re emulations of the 1176.

Limiter is in the name of. The UREI 1176Lb limiting compressor
That attack has had me confused for a long time
Why doesn’t any read the manuals anymore lol, I blame games when they started removing the booklets
Which is this mic and your interface? I guess neumann and.?
Does anybody kno a good setting for rap vocals im still learning🥴
I swear the serum FX rack compressor attack is 1 sample lol
But why such small resolution, like who tf can tell a difference from 1ms to 50 microsec?
But does it go to 11?
I've been using 76 wrong all the time 😭
