Brings back memories of working on our 1880 built house here in England, that we bought in 1986. I had to replace a lot of the timber in that. It suffered from rising damp in the ground floor, falling damp upstairs from a leaky roof, and woodworm in between! Just make sure that any wood that you replace is treated.
Excellent job Mark! I agree that tiling it would be better than cove base! Cove is easy, but it hides things. Tile does not let anything through, when done right.
Ahh good job, I used to do this kind of work, called mold remediation. We would have painted all the wood as far as you could reach with KILZ paint, it kills and prevents mold. You should get rid of the mold in the tub area, recaulk, what ever it takes, then when someone showers wipe the tub/ shower walls dry each time. It's what I do and I haven't had any mold situations in both of my tubs/showers.
Go easy on yourself it is a wet area these things happen...maybe bathroom build over 20 years ago so its expected...Materials have become more modern robust and hitec...so when the time is right up can upgrade and modernise your bathroom again

You should have treated the exposed wood under tub joists. Also why didn't you use cement board or better still foam weli board.
