For a character who is only in one scene and is opposing Daemon I was very impressed by Lady Royce. Wish we got more of her. The Royces are a cool family. If you remember in GoT, one of her descendants is Yohn “Bronze Yohn” Royce , the Vale Knight who was close with Sansa and despised Littlefinger
Criston didn't love Rhaenyra. He likes her but was not proposing because he had undying love for her. He feels guilty because he broke his oath to King's Guard. As he said, he thought by marrying Rhaenyra, he could restore his honour. But when Rhaenyra declined it, he was filled with anger and despise for himself and Rhaenyra. That's why he didn't resist much when Alicent asked him about that night. He responded even before she finished because he was at that stage completely given up on his life. So he didn't try to protect himself or Rhaenyra anymore. He just decided at that point that dying is better than living with guilt. He just hated Rhaenyra and his own life from the moment she declined his proposal.
I think he believed Rhaenyra genuinely loved him, which made losing his honor manageable. But then he finds out that to her it was just a meaningless fling, without caring that he sacrificed his honour (all he has) for her. He lost everything hes proud of because she took advantage of him when she was horny.
Alicent's entrance gave me chiillls... The song, the dress, the looks on everyone's eyes. Loved how so much was being told to the audience just by charcaters looking at each other
I think that Ser Criston took what Joffrey said as a threat. Like "you'd better keep this secret or else". And yet he'd already disclosed the secret. Combined with the stresses he was under he snapped. I also agree that people named Joffrey should never attend or be in weddings.
A *Strong* episode for House Strong IMO - Lyonel deserves to be Hand of the King. Has a good head on his shoulders, gives good advice that is in his King’s and the realm’s best interest, etc. I’d say he’s my favorite Hand of the King after Davos - Larys “Clubfoot” is finally leaving the background and is shown to be a crafty pot stirrer. - Harwin just needed one glance from his father to rescue Rhaenyra from the SNAFU and remind anyone who got in his name why his nickname is “Breakbones”
So to restore his “broken” honor, Ser Criston is going to break two of his kingsguard vows by taking a wife and abandoning his post. Yeah that makes sense. This is why Criston Cole is not sympathetic
A little trivia about the actor who plays Otto Hightower that I just found out... He's the same actor who played Xenophilius Lovegood, Luna Lovegood's father in Harry Potter!

cristen killed joffrey because joffrey, by equating the two, gave him a glimpse of his life going forward, as a willing pawn of unsavory palace intrigue. feeling heartbroken and dishonored, cristen was telling joffrey with extreme prejudice: "i'm not like you!"
The ending montage was awesome. Give me the aesthetics of the red hue of the weirdwood tree glowing in twilight, give me the dim lights, give me the gloomy ambience of a GoT wedding with an equally gloomy Ramin Djawadi soundtrack & hook it to my veins! That pause when Criston looks up and you hear the final notes of the tune...that was OD. The underrated heartfelt exchange Otto & Alicent had at the beginning was the most significant moment of the episode. Otto is not wrong. You either hope for Rhaenyra’s mercy in the future or you act now. It's the Tywin Jaime "we can establish a dynasty that last a thousand years" moment. The events at the wedding sets up the first chess pieces for Dance of Dragons. This is the episode the Greens come into their own. *Rhaenyra and Laenor were exchanging wedding vows, but it was Alicent and Criston who were getting “married”.*
Criston is the OG “nice guy”. He slept with her once (we never see her proclaiming her love for him, etc.), and follows up with this grand proposal that she give up her family, her title, her crown, so she could be with him and trade species? HUH, SIR?! 🤣. He never loved her; it’s why he snaps when she turns him down, and clarifies that he believes that a marriage between them would restore HIS honour. It was all about him! Imagine if the roles were reversed and every woman (of the 1000s), that Daemon slept with, immediately followed up with the proposal that he give up his title, money, etc. Women wouldn’t dare to even think that up, because they know how to play their role in that society. But, Criston’s entitlement is because men do really be having the audacity. 🤪 Homegirl dodged a bullet. 😅

If he could convince himself that it was all for love, it makes it okay that he betrayed his vows. This is why he grows so hostile. He blames her for putting him in a position to dishonor his vows. Which, to be fair, he's not entirely wrong. Obviously it takes two to tango, but she was the one in a position of authority with power over him, and she knew of his vows. They both share blame.

So obviously when he realized that she used him for a thrill, he felt ashamed, and as though he ruined his chance to make his family name honourable. When Joffrey said that to him, all his shame, guilt, and rejection boiled over. He'd be damned if he was going to have his affair give ammunition for others to make passive aggressive threats against him. So bye bye Joffrey.
