Surprised I haven’t seen anyone bring up that Viserys’ insistence on keeping the Targaryen name for the sitting monarch has to do with the prophecy-dagger.
Ep2 Laena was 12 and that was when Daemon was on Dragonstone. In the last ep Rhaenyra said she hadn’t seen Daemon in 4 yrs and this ep take a yr or a few months after that so she is around 16/17 maybe even 18
Yeah the time jumps are why I'm not watching the normies reaction until the big jumps are over. Because I enjoy their reactions too (mostly), but I think I'd pull my hair out with constant things like that, over there as a result of it.
High tide is an actual castle in the UK called St Michaels mount. It's in Cornwall and is only accessible by foot when it's low tide as the path is blocked during high tide. It has a sister castle in France of the same name but in French. I live in the village on the shore of this castle 😁
The ending montage was my favorite scene of the series so far. Give me the aesthetics of the red hue of the weirdwood tree glowing in twilight, give me the flickering lights, give me the gloomy ambience of a GoT wedding with a equally gloomy soundtrack & it’s A1! The slightly overlooked heartfelt exchange Otto & Alicent had at the beginning was the most significant moment of the episode imo, other than Viserys dropping. Otto is right. You either hope for Rhaenyra’s mercy in the future or you act now. It's the Tywin Jaime "we can establish a dynasty that last a thousand years" moment. The wedding sets up the first chess pieces for Dance of Dragons. Rhaenyra and Laenor were being told their wedding vows, but it was Alicent and Criston who were getting ‘married’.
You guys using the phrase liking Duck instead of Goose is so funny, yall made me burst into a laughing coughing fit with Aaron said, "Is that the Duck?". XD
I don't know if you were watching the episode or not, but it's not their phrase it's Rhaenyra's. It's what she says to Laenor as they are walking on the beach. She says to him that she doesn't care if he likes goose or duck as long as they do their duty to have an heir, she's okay with it.
I thought that was funny. I'm curious to see if they'll be of the same opinion moving forward or if they'll be in different camps. ;) We need some conflict at the BW table too!
Wow, if I had a nickel for every time a Joffrey died at a wedding feast in Westeros; I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.”
The song that played when Alicent entered the wedding feast felt very ominous and reminded me of "Light of the Seven", the song that played when Cersei blew up the High Septon.
Funny coincidence: in the episode of "The Crown" where Elizabeth & Phillip discuss what the surname will be for the heirs, Matt Smith (Prince Daemon) played Phillip.
I love Emily's acting in that scene with Ser Criston. You see Alicent's expression go through so many changes. Shock at Criston's revelation, relief that Rhaenyra hadn't truly slept with Daemon, but then also anger and betrayal that she'd lied to her that she was still a maiden, and that perhaps Viserys had been privy to that lie and chosen not to share it. That her father may have been dismissed for speaking truth to power, even if he didn't have all of the facts.
Really making her feel like an outsider even though she's his wife. Viserys constantly refers to their children as hers like she stole his semen or something. I feel so much for Alicent.
I’m still trying to figure out why she needed to know she didn’t she’s not Rhaenyra’s mother and Otto did get it wrong she didn’t sleep with Daemon along with everything he has done including sending his daughter to “spend time” with the King he deserved to be fired
@@dipsydoodle2728 I think it was trying to get to the bottom of the situation and get some clarity on whether her father was unjustly dismissed. And also after her chat with Otto as he was leaving and the chat with Larys Strong in the garden she might be a little paranoid and trying to find out just how much she can trust Rhaenyra. That's my take on it anyway
@@dipsydoodle2728 Well, clearly she needed clarity because of Larys Strong's scheming. She would understand that Moon Tea is a Plan B/morning-after pill type of contraceptive, so his comment suggests that she may very well have had intercourse. Up until Cole's confession, she had no reason to suspect anyone other than Daemon having taken Rhaenyra's maidenhead. If that was the case, firstly Alicent is clearly not comfortable with the Targaryen custom of incestuous relationships (understandable). And if that all proved to be true, it would prove that her father had been dismissed on a lie. I'm not sure Alicent would have been quite so disgusted by it if she'd thought Rhaenyra had slept with Ser Criston from the start, but her friend also declined the opportunity to share that information with her. In essence, she was lied to. That could either suggest that Rhaenyra is not trustworthy (something she refused to believe, even when her father suggested it, but is now forced to consider may be true), or that Rhaenyra at the very least no longer trusts Alicent's confidence. It's a precarious situation, all brought on by the manipulation of others (Daemon, Mysaria, Otto, and Larys).
@@benjammin9471 Definitely. Rhaenyra lied to her face when all Alicent wanted was the truth. On top of that, Rhaenyra got her father fired. Alicent is realizing she is truly alone in King's Landing. She can't rely on her husband or her once best friend. She has to work alone to protect herself and her children now.
For Criston and Joffrey to have started fighting, this means they had to have been together in the first place at the back of the room near the steps. We were all focused on the King worried about Daemon being so close to Rhaenyra on the dance floor, but surely others were looking (and commenting). I bet Joffrey made some snide remark to Ser Cole along the lines of, "Looks like those rumors might be true after all. Do you worry about your competition for her heart? You don't have a dragon or a castle, after all." Given Criston's emotional state, that could have easily set him off, and had already told the Queen he was ready to die for his "sins" (his word).
House Strong is from the Riverlands (not the Stormlands) and are bannermen to the Tully's. They were made lords of Harrenhall by king Jaehaerys I. House Royce wear bronze armor as they descend from the first men. The first men were in the bronze age and fought with bronze weapons when the Andals came to Westeros with their iron and steel. House Royce is one of the houses that managed to hold on, win many battles under king Robar Royce and actually drive the Andals out of the Vale. It wasn't until the Falcon knight (Artys Arryn) lead the Andals that they were finally beaten and thereafter swore allegiance to house Arryn.
It's taken me months of watching your videos but I have finally remembered all of your names! Let us rejoice! Also, thank you for always introducing yourselves at the start.
I hope, now, that Ser Criston is going in the direction of his book counterpart, because if so, that's gonna be very interesting and he's gonna have great influence over, almost everything
Best example of Viserys' weakness is how quickly he just allowed Daemon back in, their last interaction was literally him banishing Daemon and when he just strolls in, Viserys immediately caves rather than have a confrontation
I think he just didn’t want to cause a huge scene publicly when the occasion was about his daughter. Also, Viserys is in rapid decline and probably wasn’t up to withstanding a battle of wills with Daemon, who is incredibly obstinate, and prone to acting out and flailing about for attention.
@@temptationofmemories you're right, but he's the king and literally so many of the lords of the realm are there. It's public knowledge he's exiled daemon numerous times and daemon just ignores it and Viserys never commits to a punishment. Then immediately after, he's interrupted by Allicents (admittedly cool) arrival. He's just publicly showing his internal weakness as king, the same way he's no longer able to hide his physical weaknesses.
@@temptationofmemories Deep in his heart Viserys knows that Daemon is one of the two only people who acutally care for him and wouldn't betray him as his hand.
When Ser Criston confessed to Alicent, I was definitely having the same reaction as you guys. I was like “YOU FOOL!!! She wasn’t talking about you!” 🤦♂️

When Eric says "Where is this?". I can tell you exactly where it is, in the real world that is ... St Michael's Mount, Cornwall UK, as most things in Cornwall, it's beautiful. Great reaction as normal guys, I loved this episode.
32:10 - I think the "surname" is officially "Mountbatten-Windsor". The Wikipedia entry "Mountbatten-Windsor" says " In accordance with law and custom in the English-speaking world, the surname Mountbatten-Windsor belongs to all male-line descendants of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and is used by them if and when a surname is needed". Here the problem that the father's surname is traditionally passed on to the children was circumvented by a double surname. 33:10 - It's like the Pope taking on a new name. It used to be common for the king to take on a "traditional" royal name. In this particular case, I think the aspect that Albert is a traditional Old German name, which at the time was wanted to avoid as a name for the British king, also played its part.
@@junko4166 Most intelligent people would understand that as "the help" you're NEVER going to marry the Princess and future Queen and would just enjoy the ride.

@@nyma4287 Show is making some characters more sympathetic than in the books like Alicent who is clearly bad in the books but the show is making her sympathetic. They’re doing the same with Criston. And no, Rhaenyra is 100% a villain in the books. Straight up murders innocent children
In the Wiki of Ice and Fire, the story reads like that: In 114 AC, Ser Criston attended the wedding of Rhaenyra to Laenor, which included seven days of feasting and jousting. He fought with Queen Alicent Hightower's token. Criston's morningstar cracked the helm of Laenor's favorite, Ser Joffrey Lonmouth, which the Knight of Kisses died from six days later. Ouch...
they actually aged up Rhaenyra to 15 in the first episode, not 12. They aged down Alicent to 15 as well so they had a closer bond. So after the 2 year jump she is 17 and in episodes 4 and 5 she's 18/19 it's not fully clear. (in the first episode Viserys mentions she's fifteen and in the third he mentions she's 7 and 10 which is 17 ofc)
I don't understand how Ser Criston Cole, who just beat a man to death in clear view of everyone at a wedding reception is not arested imdediately, yet he's alone, armed and ready to commit suicide afterwards.

Surprised I haven’t seen anyone bring up that Viserys’ insistence on keeping the Targaryen name for the sitting monarch has to do with the prophecy-dagger.
Good catch
Yes, but any king would say the same thing, so no one would think twice about it
This was a great episode - so many points of tension and something was definitely going to go wrong....we just didn't know from where.

Harwin Strong barging in like a fucking chad and rescuing the princess, you love to see it
He only needed one nod from his dad
Aaron made laugh so hard. "*Gasp* Is that the duck?" "And without his land hands!" Had to rewind just to laugh harder.
I loved the subtle foreshadowing at the end of this episode for book readers. Can't wait for Blood & Cheese to show up.
Yea, people will be traumatized.
Oh my god, I just got that lmao that is very good, they have been doing some really cool nods to book readers
Man, I missed that. You're right, *great* foreshadowing!
That completely went over my head lol
The “Is that the Duck?” comment made me spew coffee all over my phone. 😂
So happy you are able to upload again, I've been looking forward to your reaction for this one!
According to my careful research(cause I don't want spoilers), house Strong are from the Riverlands, their seat of power being Harrenhal.
correct. Lyonel is the current Lord. They are I believe the fourth house to rule Harrenhal in the 115 years since its construction
Ep2 Laena was 12 and that was when Daemon was on Dragonstone. In the last ep Rhaenyra said she hadn’t seen Daemon in 4 yrs and this ep take a yr or a few months after that so she is around 16/17 maybe even 18
You would think he would know this since he literally writes everything down
Yeah the time jumps are why I'm not watching the normies reaction until the big jumps are over.
Because I enjoy their reactions too (mostly), but I think I'd pull my hair out with constant things like that, over there as a result of it.
I think she's 16. she was three years younger than rhaenyra and i believe rhaenyra is now 19.
High tide is an actual castle in the UK called St Michaels mount. It's in Cornwall and is only accessible by foot when it's low tide as the path is blocked during high tide. It has a sister castle in France of the same name but in French. I live in the village on the shore of this castle 😁
I love it whenever Eric talks about The Crown.. such interesting discussions.. i kinda wish they could do it with the whole cast 😔
Alicent walking into the throne room was 👌👌🔥🔥
Daemon not standing up for this green witch was epic.

Apparently Rick and Calvin have already chosen a side in the fighting to come.
green or black?
I thought that was funny. I'm curious to see if they'll be of the same opinion moving forward or if they'll be in different camps. ;) We need some conflict at the BW table too!
Wow, if I had a nickel for every time a Joffrey died at a wedding feast in Westeros; I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.”
Wait, it's not over yet 🙉
I felt so bad for Viserys...all he wanted, honestly, was to eat his damn chicken and have a good time....
The song that played when Alicent entered the wedding feast felt very ominous and reminded me of "Light of the Seven", the song that played when Cersei blew up the High Septon.
Indeed.
Funny coincidence: in the episode of "The Crown" where Elizabeth & Phillip discuss what the surname will be for the heirs, Matt Smith (Prince Daemon) played Phillip.
Where was Daemon once the fighting started? We saw Rhaenyra get knocked over and no one moved to protect her until the Hand told his son to get her
I love Emily's acting in that scene with Ser Criston.
You can actually hear the rain in the background. I love it
Both Calvin and Rick look so alike here i almost had a spit take 😂
How can a character with such a presence? Daemon Targaryen, wherever he goes he's the highlight! what character
Lo mismo digo
It helps that he's being played by the awesome Matt Smith.
The way Viserys was cutting the chicken w/o losing sight of them lol

Rick, Eric and Calvin all answered the chair question in unison!! 😂👏🏼
In the Wiki of Ice and Fire, the story reads like that:
In 114 AC, Ser Criston attended the wedding of Rhaenyra to Laenor, which included seven days of feasting and jousting. He fought with Queen Alicent Hightower's token. Criston's morningstar cracked the helm of Laenor's favorite, Ser Joffrey Lonmouth, which the Knight of Kisses died from six days later. Ouch...
Thank you for sharing that without spoiling anything we haven't seen
@@ketchup016 yep, they did it differently in the show.
they actually aged up Rhaenyra to 15 in the first episode, not 12.
