IIRC using backups will get you by without a CF card, most info on this machine is spread over several threads at the forums and the manual is like a space engineering course even by Roland standards, nice to see more videos popping up.

exactly why I decided to make them! I'd love to see them get to the point 404s are.

    Thank you so much .
I'm new to 555 . Can you make video for how to make & prepare live set ?
That would be great if you can.
    Thanks again.:)

I’m offering a perspective on storage here, and I may be wrong. Let’s consider maximums to figure out storage size.
First loop maximum length is 15 seconds. Maximum number of samples is two stereo and six mono.
But the real limit is 8 banks times 16 slots per bank or 128 individual files of audio. At full 44.1 kHz a 16 bit stereo sample is about 5.33 megs a minute.
A 512 meg card will give you an AVERAGE sample length of 45 seconds. Remember how our max loop length is 15 seconds?
The point I’m making is, you CAN’T fill a 512 meg card. If you could partition the 2 gig card into 8 partitions and access those through the 555 (which I don’t think is possible), your AVERAGE sample size would still be about 22 seconds. That’s still plenty big (AVERAGE size, some files will be smaller like snares and bass drums, others larger). The point I’m making is, 2 GB isn’t the limitation here. Loop size, sample quantity, frequency and bit rate, polyphony, and file system do more to limit the maximum usable size of the CF than anything else.
For further perspective the AVERAGE size of samples on a 2GB card can be 3 mins long.
Now consider that there are 4 GB cards that are known to work…
    AVERAGE 6 mins per sample…
If the 555 could navigate a files system and access .wav files like an mpc1000 could… the larger cards would make sense. But that’s not how this device works.

What’s the work around for the 555 wave converter which does work anymore on newer Mac’s?

good question, I'm running 10.14 which still works for me. I guess you just gotta record tracks into the sp via line in. Takes a little longer but it should still work.

@@friendkerrek Got the issue sorted. It was the card reader not being recognised. Got a new one everything now honky dory.

hey, any chance you can go over the loop capture resample method in an upcoming vid?
    (sp-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1405)
i've been running into problems into problems with the audio briefly cutting out when i try to resample the loop capture buffer seamlessly to an empty pad. thanks for the content regardless :)

To me that usually occurs when bank A and B are full or almost: it does that when I save from loop capture to the CF card.

Do you know if it's possible to use 4GB CF cards in the 555 (even if you can only use 2GB of them)? Because I've been thinking about picking up a 555 and I still have some 4GB cards that came with my MPC.
